They weren't just Bass players as you well know, but it's interesting how the bass is so important of an instrument in making a song work. I always thought of Roger Waters and John Lennon as the real geniuses behind their respective bands - not to take away from any of the other members - but Roger and John both "wore their hearts..." (so to speak). Which is a quality that gives certain insight into life and human condition.

Only other two I can think of is early Bob Dylan and Jim Morrison...(all later to become passionate about Justice - Waters big time). Anyway, powerful lyrical additions to the music! An example of genius..or just being "tapped in" at the right moment 🤔

You are right. Before Ringo there were 4 or 5 other drummers. But the Beatles had different names than, like The Quarrymen, Johnny and the Moondogs and Silver Beatles. Most people start their knowledge with The Silver Beatles with Pete Best as drummer, just before Ringo shows up and history starts.
