@@directorredacted8408 Exactly, I don't really give a fuck as long as their content good and what I subscribed for. This is just a case of a common marketing tactic that is getting so old that I am suprised that anybody cares but no one noticed at first. It's amazing to me that people really out here feeling hurt and betrayed by an animated character voiced someone whom they don't even know. Like damn I don't give a fuck if they lied or they are a cooporation or whatsoever, yea they lied, but does that affect the quality of their content? Let's be real here, most of us wouldn't have subscribed if Spill was ran by an independent creator- because it simply wouldn't be what it is, no independant creator can keep up with that level of quality and consistency to make the concept of Spill work. I don't come on youtube to find a charity case or fund some starving college student, I just watch entertaining content without giving a damn about who made it, people are under the illusion that they have a personal connection with content creators or something, but the closest 99% of fans would ever get is to be with any youtuber is being one out of a couple thousand fans they hug and forget during one of their meet and greets, stop expecting so much from these parasocial relationships and just enjoy the free entertainment.

Yes, and they added irrelevant info about the creators and business history to obfuscate and hide the truth: that Spill/ Grill/ On the Hill have always been corporate- controlled channels. I think TRO underestimates the ability of corps to hire actors to make an "authentic creator persona." YT's future is probably corp-controlled content, not just directly like Spill et al (corp-owned channels) but also SPONSOR-controlled content (like Beauty 'influencers' who get $50k per 'review'). In the US #ad is required to identify paid promotions. Imo YT should disclose a corp channel's identity when it gets big, e.g., 100k subs. Products must list a manufacturer to be held accountable, and the same should be true on YT: list the source so we can decide what creators we want to support with our dollars & attention

And also, when she says “I have homework” or something like that, it’s referring to the fictional school she goes to... it’s a network of channels that have a semi-fictional setting ran by fictional characters. They even have a series with more obviously fictional characters in said fictional school. They can’t say “we are a corporation” because they want to keep that fictional setting as if the characters think they are real. Those characters and storylines can’t be designed in a short time so it seems like they have planned to be like that for a long time. I feel like people really over reacted to a cool concept and acting like it they got cheated
@acuponoodles95103 жыл бұрын
@@WeiYinChan the concept's really cool, but it's the fact that they tried to hide the fact that they were a corporation (deleting comments, saying they were 'a small team' out-of-universe when they weren't) is pretty suspicious. a tv show wouldn't actively try to hide that it was a production, right? obviously, people wouldn't like being lied to, and spill did exactly that.
@WeiYinChan3 жыл бұрын
@@acuponoodles9510 there is really no evidence of them deleting comment, they have in fact addressed that. And even if they are a company, it’s not a big corporation. There are plenty of companies out there who have less then 10 employees and that’s considered a pretty small team And I wouldn’t compare it to a tv show, I would compare it to a augmented reality game. The game developer design a fictional story line but leave clues in the real world for players to solve. The whole concept is that they act like they are part of this universe reporting on drama happening in this universe, acting as if they are real people in this universe, but they are fictional characters that are supposed to be going to a fictional school.

Being backed and funded by a cooperation so they had an upper hand from other creators (starting on their own in classic KZbin fashion), and top notch equipment/editors from the start isn't really the problem. It's lying about it to begin with that's the problem. How's an audience supposed to trust the stories they are covering, if they can't even tell their own story truthfully and accurately. What did they want? Sympathy points? Style points? Lying is't worth it. It's hard to trust a channel rooted in information if they're caught in a lie.
@MadoyaTatemano5 жыл бұрын
Nina Dees Spill never lied. When she started she never said a single word but some claimed that she was going to reveal at 1Mil but some KZbinrs wanted to make videos to manipulate everyone to think this is bad when really it’s just.. *If you like someone’s content then feel free to watch. If you don’t like someone’s content then don’t watch.* It’s always going to be like that. But sometimes a story must be heard with REAL facts and not assumptions. If you don’t like Spill, fine but you need to think why are you believing a source that is not friends / ex -friends to the person they’re exposing. Why believe someone when it is not their story to tell? I don’t believe someone should be allowed to expose somebody else when they do not know them personally or know who they work for. As for actual news channels they ACTUALLY go to the source and talk to them to confirm the details of what they found. They don’t be like “oh look at this mess. Here’s what I think and take it for real because it’s exactly what’s happening!” *Don’t believe everything what you here when it’s from sources that don’t know a dang thing about who/what they’re talking about.*

Lilyloo has a Twitter but her personality on it is really skeptical to me as her professional tone on her videos on both channels are different on contrast to her memey personality on Twitter. Also, they provided a picture of her on the PDF and she looks a lot like what she sounds. So far, I haven't found any more information

I’ve been watching spill for a while, never once did I think that she was an individual creator. I think there’s an element of judgement placed in looking after the channel. You can see that spill has different skills that unless you are some super amazing human there had to be a medium size group behind it

@Pandurz5 жыл бұрын
I never assumed Spill was one person, but the content felt soured with the lack of transparency and corporate invasion of one of few remaining youtube niches that allow the average person to build an audience and income without all the bells and whistles. I haven't enjoyed it the same since. Plus, imo it makes it less impressive. This isn't research and production fueled by genuine interest and passion to deliver proper and unbias coverage of social events, it's just reading off whatever they're supposed to like a news host with a teleprompter. Might as well be TMZ with different packaging.
@katiebear05 жыл бұрын
@Long Schnozzed Tribesman So, just because some people read into that vibe and choose to believe that, does not mean it's the truth. Spill never said it wasn't a company people just assumed it wasn't. It's those people fault and not on the channel's part.
@pippip49115 жыл бұрын
Me too i always assumed there was at least 3 people on the channel. But i work on a production company so im more used to the concept of lots of people working for a single video. I mean even medium sized youtuber have to hire one or two editors, and channels with animations tend to have a main animator and their assistants.

I just can’t watch the Spill videos, they kept coming up in my recommended and I watched a few, but it felt like I was being talked to like a kid, and the channel felt like a slightly patronising channel “educating” children. They way she speaks just comes across as someone explaining something to child with an air of “I know better, so here’s a dumbed down sanitised version of the story to help you understand...” It didn’t work for me at all, but it’s interesting that many others like it. I’m very sensitive to people who do this “I’m being completely non-biased and just giving you the facts in a journalistic way with zero of my own personality or opinions” etc, because it is extremely hard to give information in a genuinely non biased way- in most cases people can’t help presenting information and framing stories that fit with their own narrative or personal opinion...and I’d rather people just admit to having a bias and show their feelings. I didn’t find Spill non-biased at all, and it really wasn’t for me, it felt like school teacher who is used to dealing with kids trying to talk to adults- I could almost hear the fake smile and the voice seems so robotic and faux polite.

KZbin started out as a platform by the people, for the people, but became corporatised when the big guys caught up. I still have bittersweet memories of young internet - no worrying about government tracking or getting cancelled, but also lots of business of dubious legality. Also those weird things that you weren't meant to look up, like "blue waffle", extremely gory cartoons, also I accidentally found a terrorist beheading video when I was a kid... also by having a 'clean' approach backed by educative and professional citations, it seems that they were likely to avoid pissing off the people they were discussing the tea about. Some drama channels have professional executions without resorting to black vs white conclusions but Spill seemed suspiciously neutral all the time. Of course this could be reach but it might've been because a corporation would try their best to avoid a lawsuit even though they are banking on the shady things a lot of very rich and influential people do.

Off? They're talking about the underlying issues in the grand scheme of things for each video with what they found. I didn't find their voice unnatural at all, it seemed more like trying to not put in their biases, something many drama channels have sprinkled in quite a bit. But of course, for those channels, that is their main feature, just as Spill's main feature is their mostly neutral research in bringing those underlying issues branching off of the drama videos they talk about.

I think it's unfortunate that Spill tried to act like they were some just college girl from modest beginnings because that damaged any credibility they built up. Spill is the best tea channel, but not because of the editing. The rest of the tea community is just horrible. What attracted people to Spill is the attempt they made to be unbiased. A lot of tea channels are exchanging currency with the people they're covering, social or otherwise. This is ironic because what brought them subscribers was rightfully calling out beauty gurus who do not disclose sponsorships and paid content. Before they were irrelevant and largely regurgitated threads from Lipstick Alley and Pretty Ugly Little Liar. Some of them straight up act like a PR team, and that became obvious when Jeffree Star's texts towards James Charles were leaked. The rest of youtube was disgusted, but not the tea community. Some tried to excuse it like Rich Lux, but many others quickly looked the other way after making well over a dozen videos on the drama praising Tati and Jeffree. It's all just so fishy to me and I don't trust them anymore than I do these big beauty gurus.

It actually makes more sense as to why they’re so balanced. And I’m not really approaching this in the same way as TRO; more so through “business eyes,” and I think it’s a great start to Canadian media that focuses on more general current events and is less animated/cringey than blank characters. I worked in print media as a teenager, wanting to become an investigative journalist but being discouraged by digital media’s biased and opinion based content. Many Canadian young adults are consciously aware of the way media can be biased; it’s a really big deal to most Canadians when our own news comes off as if it’s pandering, or has malicious intent. I’m proud of them being such a big independent and unbiased Canadian media company on KZbin. We needed this.

For people that was still confused this video was more about the concern that KZbin has become more corporatist and how in the future there would be a possibility that more and more channel would be growing under the power of a corporation rather than an individual. I can only assume bulma_999 did not watch/listen to this video, bc this comment is literally a perfect representation of the worst side of this entire situation. who are you even referring to with the beauty diva comment? it must be someone you specifically dislike, because I'm not sure why a 20 something makeup channel is so offensive to you compared to a 30 something paying some 20 somethings to craft an artificially neutral and likable persona. if it's nice to know what's going on, why do you not care... what's.... going on? this comment is so bizarrely out of touch with the conversation here-- at the time and in the future-- that I wish tro could've worked it into the video as a perfect mission statement

Now that the drama begun, I just clicked on a video of Spill's and focused mainly on her voice and if it sounded like a robot, and it indeed did sound like a robot. I could hear this quiet robot-like sound in the middle of every word/sentence she said and it reminded me of what a robot sounded like.

Its totally possible that this was a passion project of a couple people working for AWED. That being said, corporations are NOTORIOUS for taking the rights and incomes from their employees relevant creations if they did ANY of the creation within the confines of their salary. An example (even though within a different industry), when I was in the shipbuilding industry we were always warned when we had ideas to work on it exclusively "off-the-clock." We were always told about one specific story about tungsten impregnated lead. I cant find a source or I would absolutely link it. I just wish that if that were the case they could have said. On the other hand, I feel like they might not have been allowed to tell that part of the story, per their corporation agreement.

It’s just odd to me they apparently don’t make a lot of money as a company, they don’t earn money from their KZbin videos because they don’t even try to monetize them, they barely post sponsored videos, and they barely promote their merch. So WHO is paying them? As far as I know Spill is their full time job, so how are they earning money if GoodGood and other things this company does isn’t very popular? I agree they’re missing out on a lot of money, but as a channel started from a business, it’s just not adding up to me why they wouldn’t be trying to earn money every way they can. Especially Rolan, who has a handful of people to pay who he’s pretty much responsible for. I know not everyone makes KZbin videos for the money, but they’re a business so making money should be one of their biggest concerns
@christopher32875 жыл бұрын
Maybe this isn't their fulltime job and really is a passion project? Just because they're a business (most charities are corporations for example) doesn't mean they actually make a lot of money.
@thatmartian5 жыл бұрын
Chris Topher and that could definitely be the case, but for them to include the inspiring story of Rolan growing up in poverty and then wanting to be his own boss and do work he enjoys, it would make more sense for him to be profiting off of work he enjoys doing instead of doing this just for fun. They’re definitely not a charity and he worked so hard on so many other projects that didn’t end up being successful that it’s just crazy to me they don’t even try to monetize their videos
@Faby07aleixo5 жыл бұрын
My theory is that they are being paid by KZbin (sound lame, I know). But think about it, they are taking away the whole drama of drama channels to make a "journalistic approach". This smells so much of KZbin making the only "good" drama channel to take away credibility from other channels.
@christopher32875 жыл бұрын
@@Faby07aleixo why can't they just make the content the way they like for the people who like it? Why should you have to like every drama channel just because drama is the topic?
@Faby07aleixo5 жыл бұрын
@@christopher3287 because they are part of a corporation and corporations want money and results. Don't think for a second that if the channel flopped they would have let spill continue. This is not a passion project, this is a corporation. Also, I dislike a lot of drama channels, a lot of them are not for me. What I'm saying is, my theory (which is just a lame theory) is that they have affiliations with KZbin to make the drama community more "family friendly" by making other channels loose their credibility. Spill whole team can make the content they want (is very well researched) I just feel like it's not genuine.
@Dizzz1274 жыл бұрын
This is why it’s important to check multiple sources for your news/info because you never know who is behind a drama video or how they are trying to manipulate the information.

The point for me that made me question Spill, was that they said they were a 2 ppl project and than decided to be a company, but further looking into it is far from what they presented that's why I don't belive what they say plus they presented themself as not making any money from there youtube (money was a big problem for this company, well for Roland, the founder)
