James Prime here and awhile ago, I made a video on "What do Americans think about England?" and Some of the feedback that I got was, "you didn't get any older people!!!!" .At the end of that video, I pointed that out as well. Also, " if you would have went to a different city, you would have gotten different answers." So I thought I would make a part 2 of that video. I went out and asked Americans what they think about England again. Some of the questions I asked were:
0:00 - Intro
1:16 - Have you ever been the England?
2:30- What are your general thoughts on England?
5:04 - What do you think about English people?
7:24 - What is something you like?
10:15 - What is something you don't like?
13:54 - Your best English accent?
15:05 - Outro
If you haven't seen PART 1, "What do AMERICANS think about ENGLAND?" Here is the link: • What do AMERICANS thin...
Some other ones I made:
What do SCOTTISH people think about AMERICA?
• What do SCOTTISH peopl...
WHAT do AMERICANS think about AMERICA?
• WHAT do AMERICANS thin...
WHAT do AUSTRALIANS think about AMERICA?
• WHAT do AUSTRALIANS t...
WHAT do NEW ZEALANDERS think about AMERICA?

What do AMERICANS know about WALES?
• What do AMERICANS know...
WHAT do AMERICANS know about NEW ZEALAND?

I’m an American, been to the U.K. Six times. What really impressed me was that there are castles that are thousands of years old everywhere. There are Roman ruins; heck, they have pubs that have been open since before Columbus sailed here in 1492. The people were nice, and seemed interested to talk to an American, especially in the smaller towns away from London.

Most of these comments reflect the fact most of the people (even those who have visited the UK) have not travelled around much. The UK has very different regional cultures, different building styles and materials, different food, different accents and often quite different weather too. Those that had gone outside London were far more likely to say nice things they met helpful and polite people and they enjoyed the trains etc. Imagine visiting the USA and only seeing New York City or Huston... city life is always busier, people more stressed, and while it is nice to blend into a more mixed crowd it is also easier to only ever have fleeting moments interacting with the locals. But please, when this Covid thing is over, do take the time to come and see for yourselves, travel around a bit, I promise you will love it (even if it rains).

I have been to England on seven occasions and I have been to other parts aside from London. I think when tourists are coming to a new country for the first time, the emphasis is usually on the known commodity in England’s case London. As a child of parents from Barbados, I have been able to visit other parts since I have an extended family throughout the country. Interesting comment I get from relatives, I’ve seen more of England than they have and I will take it a step further, I seen more of the UK in general.

I wonder if the guy who made the comment about slavery etc realises the UK abolished slavery before many countries (including the US) and actually led the global campaign against slavery? Also, people seem to forget about French/Spanish/Portuguese/Dutch/Belgian/German/Italian colonialism and that the UK is not the only country with a monarchy.
@reinette
@reinette 3 жыл бұрын
@TheManMan Slavery is an abomination but it existed for thousands of years before the UK even existed (just look at the Bible). My point was that there seems to be an opinion that the UK is the only country with a colonist/slaver history which is of course completely inaccurate - even politicians in France and Belgium to name but 2 countries have acknowledged their countries' equally dark colonical/slaver past.
@reinette
@reinette 3 жыл бұрын
@TheManMan Slavery has existed for thousands of years and it was only from the 1800s onwards that opinion turned against it. Nobody gets a 'free pass', but my original point about the guy's inaccurate idea that the UK alone has a colonist past stands. Even though slavery was outlawed centuries ago it is effectively practiced in India and numerous Gulf countries under the practice of indentured servitude.

I love it when Americans say they like the English accent ! There are quite a few accents and I think most Americans see the accents from films and people in the media and the Royals of course. But in reality this is mainly London and the South East. Go to other areas in England and you will find the accents are very different - even relatively short distances such as between the cities of Manchester and Liverpool which is about 40 miles. There you will find a huge differnece in accent.

Haha these kind of videos are always interesting, love to see how we come across! To clear up the confusion of what the girl was saying about the royal family and how it's not rotated every 4 years. The royal family doesn't actually have any say in how the country is run, parliament/the prime minister take up that job and it's rotated (every 4 years I believe) much like in America. Technically, royalty has changed families over the hundreds of years due to wars, abdication, invasion and so on but that's the general idea.

Good explanation. For Americans (especially younger people or those who have not traveled to Europe) the concept of a ceremonial head of state is unknown. As you probably know, our head of state is also our head of government (i.e., the president). So, I think there is some confusion on the role of the monarchy here, which you were kind enough to explain.

Lots of other cities to see, maybe for one day, like Manchester, Leeds and Birmingham, which have photogenic canal wharf developments like castlefield junction, brindley place, river Aire. Plus, pretty cities like York, coastal towns like whitby and the rural beauty spots like the lake district and the pennines. As for London, there's also the eastern parts like the redeveloped docklands, Emirates cable car, Greenwich, the Shard by tower bridge and to the west battersea power station and St Pancreas redevelopments.

My best and worst of working in London (was in international banking, every night I worked until 10 pm , I didn’t tour much). This was in 2004. @n g That's just so British lecturing us Americans on how racist we are. The British people who brought slavery to America. Not the Irish, German, Italian, Jewish, Dutch, etc. who came. And even today with your so called Empire disintegrating due to past & current colonization and abuse. The Guardian March 2023 More than 60% of Gypsy and Traveller people reported that they had experienced some form of racist assault. More than 55% of Jewish people report the same. But we also find striking differences within groups we often unthinkingly group together. White Irish people are more likely to say they have experienced prejudice in Britain than black African people Black Caribbean people, for instance, are more likely than black African people to say they have experienced racism - nearly 50% for black Caribbean people and more than 30% for black African people. Which also means that more than half of black Caribbean people and two thirds of black African people say they experienced no racist assault. All of this from a survey many have used to conclude that Britain is far from being a racially just society. Remarkably, the survey found that 40% of white Irish people reported experiencing some form of racist assault in their lives. This means that white Irish people are more likely to say they have experienced prejudice in Britain than black African people and all Asian ethnic groups: Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Chinese and other Asian groups. www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2023/apr/15/racism-in-britain-is-not-a-black-and-white-issue-it-is-far-more-complicated
