How about the topic of Filipino Americans and their struggles adapting and the culture shock they encounter when coming to PH? Seriously, most expats I've encountered in the three years of living in the Philipoines have moved right back. It may have had something to do with the pandemic tho

Try going to any town in the USA and ask Americans what their thoughts are about Filipinos. You will get a multitude of different answers from very kind and friendly, to scammers and mukhang pera!!! While some of your guests perspective are correct, others are based on stereotypes and falsehoods. But in general it is fun to hear what Filipinos (especially the younger generation) think about Americans. Did you tell them that you are an American?

I did tell some of them that I was from the U.S. Most of them already assumed so because of my accent. And it's true, Americans will give a variety of answers on their thoughts on Filipinos. Really just depends on their perspective. Thanks for watching Daniel 👊

I was born and raised in the Philippines. There is one heartache I hold against some of our fellow Filipinos. I dress like the common local and don't wear extravagant clothing, shoes or jewelry. I was looked down at when shopping and one time at a Globe store on a recent visit home, the rep that was helping me, turned his back on me soon as a young Filipina approached him for help. I don't like calling attention to myself, but, his rude treatment definitely, irritated me where I had to call on the manager. I want to remain low key, but, when someone treats me like that, I tend to explode.

Is that really rude to do? 😮 I've been to many stores who does that, but I didn't really mind them doing that (because, I was taught by my mom that they couldn't focus on one single client or buyer, if they are short on staff, which is pretty much the majority in the different stores here in PH). I've been living here in Ph my whole life, so I didn't really mind it and sometimes overlooked such actions, but knowing these perspectives from those who have lived outside the country, I guess, I'll just say sorry for the most of us and also, please understand that norms like entertaining mutliple people is very common here, hopefully you'll understand. 😢

I have made many trips to the Philippines in the past 12 years. (I love Cebu!) As an American I feel it is important to understand that I am a guest in your country and it is my responsibility to respect the people and your cultures. I do not get to make the rules for myself there. When I leave I want the people I meet to look forward to my return, not be glad that I am gone. I am only one American, but I represent all when I am traveling and treat my hosts with respect. Stay safe and God bless you all in these difficult times.

I just wouldn't go issuing blanket statements about an entire class or affiliation of people, even if positive. That's just going to get people riled up. And it's inaccurate. There is no perfect group, 100% of which are going to be polite travel guests. I agreed with everything you said, as if I had wrote it myself, up until that blanket statement of "As a liberal, that is how we live". Well that is how I live too, and I don't particularly consider myself a liberal. To me, your statement casts an implication of: those who aren't in your group don't behave properly, and now you've effectively ruffled at least some feathers. Can't we just practice being good people, without trying to credit it all to some affiliation badge?

Nice! It's very interesting to hear about what the younger Filipinos think of Americans these days. I was born in Manila, and immigrated to the US when I was 7 years-old. Fast-forward 53 years later, my wife - who happens to be white and born in California - of 20 years has always been interested in visiting my home country. In fact, when we get together for family events, she puts me to shame because she speaks more Tagalog than I do! The Philippines is one place we're considering of retiring to.

Also I have experienced being judged because of my race almost daily (white tax) prices being higher for me. someone wrote on our gate "puraw" which means white. So yeah judging people based on race is unfortunately very common no matter where you go.

Current times (21st century ) in the Philippines, when Filipinos think of “Americans” , do they still automatically view Americans as Caucasian or African decent? I’m an American (born and raised in USA) of Filipino ethnicity. If I meet a Filipino/Filipina in the Philippines and tell them I’m an American, would they simply acknowledge me without further thought or would they give me funny look first , contemplate a while before acknowledging that I’m an indeed an American. Just wondering.

The misconceptions of many Filipinos that US has many jobs, good paying jobs and easy to get since the salary is $$$, hence they automatically compute the USD/PHP daily exchange rates, thus if your annual salary is $25K? you are a millionaire to them(check today exchange rate US/PHP) and they're not thinking of $1 in US is still $1 and not counting the taxes, insurance(life/med/home/auto), rent/mortgage, auto, utilities, and food. My GF's brother in PHL asked me if I can get him a job where I work and her aunt asked me if I ever get my GF to US can I petition her daughter as a tourist so can work here....😡 😅...yeah, that easy.

I'm a Filipino born in the Philippines but raised since I was 3 in the States. What amused me was the perspective of the one girl who said she thought most Americans are radicalized or are racist. In my 60 years here I've rarely personally experienced racism. I've had a wonderful life here but if I ever considered moving to the Philippines I would place access to healthcare as a top priority. While life may be easier it seems in the Philippines access to decent and sffordable medical care would be my main concern. I've vacationed several times with my family to the Philippines and I get the impression each time that life there is more comfortable if you're younger and don't have major health issues. That is the reason why my parents decided to stay in the US, with my dad being retired Navy veteran and all the perks associated with it. I might add too, to those wishing to move California mainly because of the weather, don't. I grew up in San Diego and prices are EXTREMELY high there. I live in Florida now, which I thought would have been mentioned by one of those being interviewed. Sure, it's hot here in the summer months but the rest of the year it's quite comfortable, plus there is no state income tax. I've since found out that there is a large number of Filipinos here too, even with a Jollibee about a 45 minute drive from my home. So as with any country where you choose to live you pick your own battles, as they say. If you're happy where you are then nothing else should matter.

Really interesting how both the interviewer and the respondents are focused on white people as Americans. The interviewer didn't say that he was referring to white people as racist. They all assumed it. After all there are many different peoples who are Americans. It's like gaslighting all the Americans who are not white. I think when Filipinos are thinking about Americans and identifying with Western culture they are subconsciously thinking about white people, because Filipinos also have a thing with skin color. And it really doesn't make sense because of the basketball players we have. There is a national tendency for Filipinos to prefer light skin, i.e. whitening in so many soaps & skin care products. It's actually appalling to me. I think dark morena is very beautiful.

As a Filipino, Americans are a huge mixed bag. Majority of Americans I interacted whether online friends, former coworkers, bosses and former classmates are nice and friendly. When you get to know more of them, they can be very direct and less judgmental except on discussions about politics, especially most cannot tolerate other people's perspectives (especially on non "woke" perspectives). Working with American bosses and clients, unfortunately, they are the most entitled people to work with plus they have a tendency to work you to exhaustion (from software engineering job to my current actuarial job). Europeans and Australians are far more chilled as coworkers. On the topic of racism/sexism, I got harassed by some middle aged American expat when I went to the club with my friends, not letting go of the notion that Filipinas are easy women and very easy target for Westerners in general. That left a bad taste in me and completely turned off dating Americans in the Philippines as most of them are old and graying men (from what I see in Cebu). I even got called chink and that's so off. As Americans are racially diverse, it's funny the most negative experiences I got are from white guys and the nicest Americans I made friends with are black women and Korean American women.

Racism exists in all places, even Filipinos can be racists, in fact, there are many things they do, or say that might be considered racist in other places, especially in the west where there's sensitivity to the topic more than any other country. I realized after immigrating to Canada that many Filipinos are naturally racists, but a lot of them don't even know that they are. On the other hand, as shown in this video, there are many who are well-educated or informed on the subject.

First off I enjoy your channel a lot. This video was somewhat disappointing to see that we Americans are viewed as snobbish and racist. Some are but to paint us all that way isn't fair. I believe most of this is portrayed by the left leaning media. I would like to see you interview older Filipinos and get their views. I've been their a couple of times and have enjoyed my time a lot. The biggest difference I would say is in respect. Americans lack that, not all but compared to Filipinos yes. And if you move here pick a more conservative state. Have a great day.

With due respect. The media is CORPORATE. The MSM is lazy, and Fox, OAN etc are supposedly to the Right, but frankly, given the reactions to Ukraine on those channels - they are anti-American, not anything like the Conservative movement of my youth. The "Left-leaning" media - unless you mean MSNBC and kind of CNN - is a myth. Deal with reality. And frankly, a lot of Americans ARE racist.I come from an old family, we've been here since the 1650s and fought in the Revolution and Civil War - but we are not liars or stupid. When people make jokes about "rice eaters" and call COVID-19 -- a rather pedestrian, albeit deadly mutation of a bat coronavirus "Kung flu" or refer to it as the "China Virus" and when one of those people was at the time President -- it leads to further racism, like the attacks on Asians, including Filipinos. What do you think that is, if not racism? Pick a more conservative state????????? You mean where there is MORE racism and MORE hatred and MORE violence against immigrants??? Come on dude.

Interesting topic. However, a few of the people you interviewed placed Americans in the same box. Not all Americans are boisterous, have the cowboy mentality and most of all are not all racist. Many of us see value in all people and treat people fair and just. I don’t look down on people or visit their country as if my culture is superior to theirs. I get it, some people are imperialists, I’ve been around the world and I’ve witnessed it. Some Americans act like that and so do some Europeans, Asians and other races. I had a first hand experience of American racism when I went to Thailand and this Karen feeling all privileged suddenly started complaining in a loud voice while we were queueing, she mentioned a lot of derogatory words about the people around her and she probably think that no one will understand her in English because this was Thailand.

I just saw a video on filipino americans and they look like they lost their soul. Some parts of America are moral less. God is mocked and laughed at. I grew up in New England.. the energy is heavy there, the people are gritty, cold, cutthroat, and put on a fake tough facade. America is not all its cracked up to be. I'm half asian and I would rather be a filipino living in Phillipines. It's not easy to find a tribe here or belonging especially as a mixed race person. In the asian community it seems the females are quick to assimilate by rejecting their own race of men. I don't blame them as many asian men don't have the American spirit which holds power in this country and women of any race will flock to whichever race or person has the power in an attempt to better the survival of her offspring. However, im right in the middle of asian and white and I can feel it in my bones I don't belong anywhere. So ultimately it becomes a confusing identity for everyone involved. At this point I reject everything about asian culture, philosophy, consciousness, because the more I align as asian the less future I have in this country, and the more I will be exploited in my interactions with others. I am forced to isolate and evolve. I hope that gives you one perspective of the climate in America. I've never been to the west coast so it could be completely different there. God bless!

Is this because so many American men see women, especially Filipino women, as sex objects? Many of the American expats are retirees who came of age during the sexual revolution of the 60s-70s. In my experience as a woman of this generation, the men my age were brought up in a culture that expected women to be sexual with them, therefore, many of these men have a sense of sexual entitlement that may be coloring the responses from the women interviewed. I would be interested in interviews with Filipino women about uncomfortable experiences they've had with American men.

Question, when they give their opinion are the referring to every race in America or White peoples?

They're referring to American culture in general, not any one race in particular. That's another reason I'm moving to SE Asia. I'm known as an AMERICAN first, not whatever skin I happen to be born in.

What do I think about Americans ? I am filipino, I came to the US when I was still a teenager, Most americans are nice and generous like same as filipinos. I dont see much difference. About discrimination it happens everywhere not only in the US but also in the Philippines, their are filipinos who are racist too, and the worst ones are those filipinos who are racist against other filipinos. And hopefully I wont get any racist comments here from other filipinos. OK peace
