Game developers are still in the world of software engineering so many things will overlap. I think the biggest difference is that games themselves don't work like traditional apps / websites and often don't use the same frameworks. But that can all be learned on the job as long as you have a good foundation on how to code and computer science theory :)

I mean... You can probably teach yourself everything you need to know about software engineering, but unless you're truly exceptional, I'm not sure you could get any major tech company - or even the smaller ones - to actually hire you without a degree.

Ohh the meetings yes. Please make sure to defend your own calendar long term. Lots of engineers I mentored/managed complained about their meeting loads until I encouraged them to actually decline meetings. Thanks for sharing your day :)
