For the record: through all the hassles, tribulations,.and set backs may I remind everyone Carolyn is still at it after six and a half years. There's no better confirmation. Early on she was like Steve in "Without Bound". "What am I doing?". Now she's more like what Randy Vining says: "I see people's character and creativity blossom and bloom".

I can’t imagine how much work the videos are with all the responses you have to make. Stopping to smell the roses is so important and I think we can all admit we forget to do this. Yes, always stop to enjoy yourself for you. You are the most important person. We so forget about this. I’m so ADD that I forget to focus on me and what I need. I fail in doing this. Thank you for touching on this subject matter. You have grown so much over the past 7 years. You are an amazing person and a blessing to me. Thank you for being just you. Hugs

You made a difference in my life. I enjoy all your posts. I am 78 and lost my husband Fritz 10 years ago. We were campers and enjoyed many places in the USA. I also traveled with my parents as a child. I grew up in rural Pennsylvania near Allentown and for two years in the 50’s we lived in Tucson Arizona. Many of the places you have traveled to I have memories of and through you I can visit them again. You have no idea how you and Sadie bring joy to this old grandma’s heart. God bless the roads you travel and keep you safe.

My mom just passed away 9/9/22, so now I am homeless & unemployed, so heading out in my rv at the end of this month. Heading from California to Washington state first, that's where the remains of my family are & see how it goes from there. I hope I learned enough from your videos to survive the final chapter of my life in my rv.

Thank you for the regrets. Many years ago, hubby was gungho about getting a RV and traveling. I went to check out a RV and the man asked me...who wanted the RV, me or the husband. I answered him ...hubby did. He was like " Don't do it!" We had a nice conversation about the trials and tribulations of RV life. We never did buy an RV, but we had a 4x4 off road capable dual crew cab truck. We saw a lot of the US. Sadly, he died several years ago, but I have great memories of many wonderful adventures. Side note. Trying to talk my sisters into renting one for a week trip..three 60+ women in an RV..can you imagine???

@Life Is Poetic be Stoic …generally I agree with you.. my brother is an OTR driver. But, what I am looking at isn’t a tow vehicle. Rather it is a small motor home. I drive a Silverado dual cab truck. Love it. I have never had an accident ever. Drove a school bus for two years, so I feel confident in my skills. The sisters would be content just to sit and watch out the window or nap.

This is one of Carolyn's most potent commentaries. I compare her issues with mine as an interstate trucker. I couldn't stand it as an employee because the demand is 3,000 or more miles a week. So, like Carolyn, I sought to buy my own rig. I found myself still working 3,000 mile weeks to pay for expenses. Then I decided I had to be debt free. So I finally paid off the truck. Still wasn't debt free. The major premise of wanderlust is to wander. I discovered the "wander" always took a back seat to the bills, real or imagined. Imaginary bills, those "what if's". No, no. I just want to be free. Free to smell the desert wildflowers, the chill of a snowy evening, the crackle of fall leaves under foot, and even the occasional now common smell of burning timber. It's hard to do any of that burning down the road at 70mph. Unlike Carolyn who has meet and greet fetes with like the minded, trucking doesn't. It's difficult to as much as walk my dogs without some gay trucker's intrusion. I want to spend time with my beagles. If I wanted constant social events I'd organize a few. But I don't. The past year I've holed up on a five acre plot of mostly trees. I thought it was me, isolating. There's two other small cabins here. My brother's daughter and husband fixed one up to stay temporarily after they sold their house. They, too, find the solitude hard to leave. They still work. He is a welder who takes jobs all over the country. She grabs whatever comes along. I parked my semi all summer and discovered I really didn't miss all the things I thought motivated me. I generally live like a beagle. Noon doggie naps are the bomb. Like Carolyn I reevaluate my needs. Every day the big toys get smaller and the desire to own them less and less. The real story here is again from Without Bound's quotes "Everything is a trade off between freedom and comfort". "All that stuff. How much does anyone need?"

I could get struck by lightening watching in awe a coming storm. That would be a pitiful waste of lightening. I could get stuck in the snow. And leave a pristine snow scape ruined by my tire marks. I could rustle through the golden leaves, scare the squirrels back up the trees to chatter at me for interrupting them. I could ride my motorcycle down a country blacktop only to have the deer look up from their meal as if to say: " There goes that old man on that noisy thing again". I could stand out in a downpour and not worry about getting wet only to have my dogs quizzically look out the window and wonder what's wrong with humans. The small things seem the most potent. Yet I overlook them because I'm too much focused on what should be rather than what is. Salesmen want to hook us back in as if we're creating a grave heresy. Burning at the stake is equal to missing all the small quiet wonders. The fear is I will become more fond of small wonders at the expense of my brainwashed need to enjoy self burning. They want me to be poor by spending my slim resources on their products. That makes me double poor. Poor in money and spirit. I can survive being financially poor. I cannot survive being spiritually bankrupt.

It all makes perfect sense. I have recently been rethinking my time spent living in a house. I'm retired and it's so easy to fall down a rabbit hole of social media, especially in our current situation with politics and covid. I removed twitter from my tablet because I was constantly going there mostly out of boredom. I envisioned retirement to be vastly different from my reality. But, guess what? I can change that and I'm gonna. We head out with our trailer this weekend to a remote spot with no cell signal. I can't wait to disconnect and breathe!

I have been following your journey for a few years now. What I have learned from you and other channels is that full timing would not work for me. I realized that I am searching for a simpler, minimal life. That is why I'm building a tiny house (shed) to live in. Someday, I will hopefully be able to afford a van and do some traveling, but I want to establish my home base first. Your videos have inspired me to take steps toward this dream. Far from being a discouragement, you showing your life on the road has helped me to define and reshape my goals into what will work for me. And I thank you for this. ML and safe travels.

I haven’t listened to one of your videos for a couple of years. I think the last video I watched you were starting to hike the north west trail. I realized I will probably never be able to go full time RV. My circumstances have changed. Now I have to live with my son and care for his two boys ages 3 (almost 4) and 7. My son is a paramedic and works 48 hour shifts. At 72, I know I will be to old travel by the time they are grown. Very informative video. It helps that you share the lessons learned from your travels. What helps me most is the discussion on vehicle maintenance. Tires, electrical, roof repairs, and heating /cooling tips. Another great tip in this video is seeing the country side as you travel. Going 70mph on the interstate you see nothing. Maybe taking more back roads is in my future? As always, thanks for sharing...........

Carolyn, your videos inspired me. This one is especially for me! I am finally on the road in a 10 yr old, very small travel trailer I inherited after my father’s death earlier this year. I rented out my home 6 yrs ago so I could care for him in his home. When Dad saw I was watching your - and other RVer - videos, he said “you can do this.” He knew my nature, that I would want to run away to the road to grieve and live differently. My grown children are so supportive and I’ve visited both of them this year. I will spend winter in Arizona, and this spring, head to Alaska, where I lived 8 years mostly in the Kenai peninsula. Will hopefully find a caravan for that journey. This dream is now a reality, and I’m living my new life as a solo woman RVer. My most important lessons so far: 1) be flexible. 2) there are many wonderful RVers who like to share their wisdom (and tools!) so I don’t have to live it myself to learn. 3) I don’t have a real schedule so I don’t have to drive far each day, 5 hrs max is what the cats and I like most, but 2-3 hrs is fine, too. I’m still getting to know my RV, so I’m not boondocking yet, though I have dry-camped in RV parks if I wanted to hit the road early the next day. So much to learn, and you covered so many things so I don’t have to learn the hard way. Hope to see you and your followers somewhere down the road!

Thank u for the honesty. I am in what like to think of as ' mid retirement '. I've sold my 80+ hr/ week biz, took my sticky stemi Covid cash and re educated myself w a trade that gives me many of the advantages of ownership but as an employee. I live now as a minimalist, mostly debt free, wk a 30 hr week, and smell all the roses. Van life is my next chosen adventure, I'm probably 2- 4 yrs out, and because I'm just turning 60 I like this timeline of learning to slow down, detoxing from consumerism, and gracefully adjusting from the manic pace of my 40's and 50's to this necessarily slower pace I need my 60's and 70's to become. Love your channel, hope our trails cross someday in the wild blue yonder!

I understand, Carolyn... I have had this dream of living off-grid most of my life. I just turned 60 - the idea of having more peace, quiet, and solitude is with me MOST of the time! I have gotten realistic about whether or not I could still do the physical work it would take to keep an off-grid cabin and small homestead going, however. Like you said, everything is a learning opportunity; 'regrets' are only for those who haven't paid enough attention to glean the precious lessons they've been offered. In my senior years, I have peers who are still borrowing money to buy lavish toys and fancy homes. My spouse and I paid of our home and downsized to a small home in the desert. We put in some rocks and planted native plants that don’t need an “iffy” watering system. We are free to take off when we want and don’t worry about keeping up with the Jones. I think your rig is just wonderful and hugging trees brings so much more joy than always looking for the next luxury to feed your ego.

Carolyn, it's been 7-years for me also, and I remember watching your first videos that fall along with seeing you from a distance as I sensed hour anxiety of being a KZbin celebrity at the RTR. Stay safe little lady and continue inspiring the courage in others who dream of a simpler life of nomadic travels. I’m transitioning into my 2nd RV while loving my overlanding nomadic lifestyle. So remain the safe, happy, and humble little lady you are, and I wish your future becomes the journey of your dreams.

OMG this was very helpful! I’ve spent my life running from one activity to the next with full deep dive obsession, then not understanding why I still felt unfulfilled. My husband and I have talked often of full time rv living, waiting for the right time (responsibility of kids and now parents). I had already realized the that would likely end as so many other things, not necessarily with regret but awareness that it didn’t accomplish what I expected. Your discussion has beautifully clarified why… my circumstances changed but I didn’t change. Genius! Thank you for sharing!!

Thank You for sharing Carolyn. Some gems of wisdom in your video! I enjoyed 4 years living and traveling in my oldish 24' C-class on the eastern seaboard of the US, ending last year when I returned to the UK age 74. I enjoyed every minute and it kept me young and fit! I met many wonderful people too. I earned my keep by volunteering in many wonderful places: State Parks, National Parks and a fantastic mountain-top retreat center. (I'm a qualified Life Coach too.) At the same time I was reflecting on my life and two marriages. It's absolutely true that wherever we go, we take our self and all our traits and baggage with us. However, RV life and lots of time close to nature can give us a chance to grow outside of the general rat race and indeed, outside of massive consumerism. You have become so much more self-aware and more conscious of practicing self-care. Those are major achievements! Congratulations on yr personal growth! When we nurture self-love and compassion for our self, and we grow from every challenge - as you do - we have so much more to give to others. Namaste!

Carolyn, I just recently found your channel, and I Love it!! You and Sadie are Awesome, and I learn so much from you, and really enjoy getting to See the country, through your travel adventures!! Thank you! I am 61, single female, and one day I hope to do a bit of this, not sure, but it is very intriguing to me! I appreciate your honesty, and I think you are Amazing to have taken this lifestyle on, and learn day by day as you journey through the 24 hours! You will undoubtedly be peaceful and proud of yourself when you look back on all this one day, ( more understanding and gentle with yourself ❤). We all have regrets, and the wisdom of hindsight, that's what life is about I think, learning what works and what doesn't. Anyhow, Thank you so very much! You remind me of Laura Ingalls Wilder 😃👍👍. You and your dear friend Sadie are Amazing and Wonderful!!! 🏞

One thing you've done is to let your feelings out when there's a problem, suss out the next step & finally figure out what the learning opportunity was. Metal valve stems, fixing the roof leak & so on. Another that youve touched on is Opportunity Cost: what each choice will bring vs what you can't do because of the choice you made. And finally, Maslow's hierarchy: we very often see you experiencing self actualization in joy at meeting challenges, immersion in beauty, etc. But you could reach those peaks because you had taken care of the base needs. 😀

I’m so glad you chose the path you did. Your experience has been such a great education for the rest of us. And BTW I also had the same experience with valve stem extenders on my dual wheels (Class C). I have never been off road. Experienced tire people have told me that valve stem extenders are usually a bad idea.

I think you are talking about trade-offs, not so much regrets. You "sacrificed" one aspect in order to gain another. This is what life is all about and everyone does it. You are just being more mindful of your decisions. Discussing them helps the rest of us reflect on how well we have stayed true to ourselves. I am 67 retired and on the road part time due to family obligations. Your channel has helped me imagine my life as an RV traveler and I have benefited from your experiences. Good thought process. We need to realize that changing our environment isn’t going to change the way we handle life. I’m looking forward to moving to my land and all the fun things I will get to do there. But really the real work will begin when I get there. I need to take time to do fun things, take a nap or a hike and not obsess about all the chores that will need to be done. I tend to push myself really hard when I have a big project. ‘Take time to smell the juniper trees! ‘ yeah, I like that 👍🏽☺️

"take a nap" --- great hobbies that can be an addiction problem but, there are "worse" addictions, like locking yourself in a room and a piano and no clock to allow it to count; at least it not drugs, then again, some like drugs (is it that bad?, do i have to ask? please don't ask :)

I so appreciate your sharing your journey, which I've followed for a couple of years now. First comment! Your regrets resonate with me, at nearly 62 years of age, as I'm seeking clarity on my next chapter. After living the corporate work life for my first 25 years of adulthood, I had the opportunity to live in Asia for several years, where I learned so many lessons on life. There, the majority of people tend to live "to be", rather than "to do"- being a human rather than doing to acquire stuff. It opens the window into the soul, or inner world, when instead of constant thoughts of what needs doing, one simply is.... thinking more, meditation, quiet walks, staring at the night sky or a lake. Its a kind of mindfulness of everything, combined with an acceptance of "this is today, its all I have, and it is enough". Very freeing. My 2 cents in response. Hope its useful. Thanks!

I had been watching you for years and you inspired me to buy a used RV a few years into my disability/retirement. I spent everything I had just dreaming about the freedom, people I would me, and experiencing things that I would never think to. 10min after at least repairing some things and sleeping in her “hakuna matata” for the night in my driveway, we ( my spouse) put her on the expressway Bishop Ford right outside Chicago and went to the beach on 95th. Boy even ten minutes after we left the rig hand in hand we heard a loud boom. Needless to say our baby was hit. The larger vehicle on the beach! Anyhow the pickup managed to hit and run. My RV has Bering storage for two years without us touching her. I need help because I’ve had several back surgeries but I want faith because of your commitment to your journey. Thank you so much!
