What Do I Use Portugal NIF Tax Id For?

We pay tax in France so we stopped giving it to stores, but it is certainly necessary for EVERYTHING as you said!! Buying a house, car, purchases, getting a bank account, healthcare, etc.

We got in the habit of using it everywhere, the market, mini-market, museums, virtually anywhere we paid for something.

@@johnperrin914 Great question. No card, there was a paper given with the number on it. We got the NIF 1.5 years before we moved so we could open a bank account, and start searching for property before the move. We received it on a Tuesday, flew back to the States on that Saturday and over the course of those 4-5 days, had each other's NIFs memorized.

@ I didn’t get a card. I guess you could put it on an index card & keep it close until you memorize it.
