I am a girl but I can't recall anyone pick me up, maybe last time when I was 13. It was so weird actually, these guys were probably 14 or so but they were scary and aggressive. They even insulted me when I refused LMAOO But now I'm 17 and actually it's easier for me to pick up someone myself rather than wait until someone else does. I'm not a patient person, so I guess that's why. I think I don't do it because I'd like to exploit anyone but because I want to know more people better and also learn to communicate my thoughts and stuff. I'd usually approach someone, then talk to them and if I like our talk, I'd ask for contact information or give mine instead. It didn't work out in every case, though, and some people just ignored me after that x)

In Shibuya, Shinjuku aren't guys doing Nampa mostly Scouts, guys doing paid work to recruit women in "nightlife" work. Not regular normie civilians. To not mention Scouts on a video about nampa in Shibuya seems really overlooking a major factor.

Yes you are 100% correct. Pretty much any nanpa you see nowadays in popular areas like shinjuku, shibuya, even osaka dotonbori area are all recruiters. I know this because i talked to them first hand. The regular joes doing nanpa to actually find a gf/laid are a very very very very small fraction of the people. I'd say less than 1% of them actually do it for non recruiting reasons. Most nanpa guys are actually very good looking guys too, your average joe does not have the looks nor the confidence to pull it off. Agencies also recruit only good looking jopop looking guys because girls would be more interested in them.

Very curious as to why it's a big deal to talk to strangers? Why use dating apps to swipe on people just for their looks rather than have an in person conversation with a "stranger". Everyone is a stranger till you get to know them. I've approached hundreds of girls and had positive reception and went on a lot of dates because of it. Never used dating apps. I think the real reason is rule 1 and 2. if you are attractive, it's okay to approach girls. If you aren't attractive " it's scary I want to run away". If you are a guy watching this, don't let it stop you from approaching girls, it's perfectly normal to want to talk to a girl...

It does 😊 and it depends on how you dress, body language and conversation opener context. If you followed the style of 2010s Kpop/Jpop, you will attract alot of mature women in their 30s-50s. If you look like BTS, then those in their teens/20s . The more mature they are, the more aggressive they'll be. And its the opposite for the younger ones. Sometimes their action left me confused. They would reject me out of surprise and then coming really close to me again when I wished them a nice day. No 2nd chance given and Wouldnt risk it again of cos 🤨

This is exactly how I met my gf at the time. I don't like to annoy people, but when she stopped and started talking to me with a smile. I knew I had a chance with her. It was raining that day and it was almost evening time. I still remember very clearly. She was walking infront of me with an umbrella. I thought she looked cute, and I just went up and said Hi. She didn't hear me the first two times. I thought oh, maybe she is ignoring me. She was walking with her head down , as if she was in some deep thoughts. I was ready to walk away, If she ignored me the 3rd time. When she looked up, she was surprised as if she didn't notice me walking beside her. And that's when she stopped and kept talking with me. When she smiled. I honestly told her, she is cute. Her reaction was blush and giggle. At that point , I asked her ID and setup a date for the next weekend. btw Our conversation was in Japanese. We went on our first date. When she didn't come on time and didn't message me back, in the back of my mind I thought 'ah.. so she was just playing around'. But she was actually late. And we dated for 4 years. She was late almost every date since then. The main reason, I did nanpa back then was to build confidence in myself. I am also average looking and I am shy. I think it takes a lot of courage to freely talk to women. Not only that, there's a skill required to be able to carry a conversation. I Lack both, confidence and conversation skills. I have been ignored before and Its not fun. When us guys approach, we take pride in it. Some of us genuiely don't know how to approach women. We are trying our best to learn. So if we get ignored, that's a big blow to our confidence and self esteem. At the end of the day, no one wants to be alone. Everyone is searching for someone special. Some guys do nanpa for different reason. But I am not those type of guys. My intention is always pure. I asked my gf at the time, what she thought of me doing nanpa. She thought maybe I am just a player and trying to add as many women in my bucket list. I laughed when I heard that.

I've been in Tokyo the past week and have been wandering and observing. I've personally wanted to get to know a japanese girl to go out on some dates and get to know them, but after seeing how many guys get completely ignored and shutdown I gave up. Plus I only know a few phrases of Japanese. I can understand where a girl is coming from though, alot of the Japanese guys are just to aggressive, its like "hey ! Want to go out! And then bounce to the next one. Kind of kills it for the genuine guys who literally do want to go out on a real date.

The best way is to start in a normal friendship and naturally and gradually move onto a romantic one. Instead trying to jump into a romantic one. Let them get to know you first and win them over. Of course if you are a super good looking dude you can probably skip that friendship step altogether but most men should take the friendship step first. That has a better rate. After all if you want to have along term relationship you need more than sexual attraction you also need friendship. So build that foundation!

My opinion is that if you see someone that you really like, or feel like you might have chemistry with, try talking to them. I think there's a time and place to meet strangers, just like anywhere else in the world. Being approached by nanpa who's goal is to get with any girl he can is repulsive. However, meeting someone where the person may just be interested is less loaded. Izakayas or bars with more intimate interactions don't usually attract nanpa and people are more open to meet people in those settings
@mailman1021

I feel like I’m the resident foreigner context police for this channel… geez. Alright boys… here’s the lowdown. Nanpa is literally just pickup or approaching girls you are attracted to for conversation as it is all over the world. What they aren’t telling you in that many people see the “pickup game” here as the recruiters and scouts for the darker side of the nightlife/industry. Starts off with modeling and then you get hooked into other things. Now, with that being said, I can tell you for a FACT (I see it almost everyday even at my smaller station outside of Tokyo) that anyone who approaches a girl with “oneesan oneesan” is a recruiter or has poor intentions. ANYONE. Never lead with that boys. You’re the worst of the worst. Younger boys (under 20) will usually have these kind of poor manners and be grotesque in their “pickup lines”. These recruiters will usually be outside station exits and in groups. They will also be under 35 years old typically and some will even have some host club members to attract girls. Most girls walk away and ignore them as the men follow them relentlessly saying “oneesan oneesan” etc. Now, for NORMAL pickup lines/etc. Don’t bother in everyday life unless you’re fluent in Japanese and they can feel at ease with your conversation. I’m warning you now. Outside of that your best bet is to go to clubs/bars/mixer cafes. Are these the relationship types that will be good for your future? Nope. But you’ll have a good time probably so hey, you do you. There is no real pickup culture in Japan because communication here EFFING SUCKS. Either you’re in with that friend group or you’re not (even between Japanese people). They don’t associate with anyone really that they don’t need to and legit get scared if a stranger approaches them more often than not. This is NOT the country to come to for a healthy social life.

@@michaelwatson9089 perhaps it depends on the person but you was working on base? That's probably little different if you live off base and deal with japanese on a daily basis. Off course I also had women giving me their age without a problem but I would be very cautious at work places.

Depends how you're approaching them. If you're being creepy/not respecting their boundaries, it's harassment. If you're understanding and respectful, that's perfectly fine

I knew it, japanese dudes got game & try to pull the birds whether they're successful or not with their approach....it seems some of these birds are selective in who they'll give out their personal info to.... Keep going my japanese brethren 👌😁😷🇯🇵🇯🇵🇯🇵✊✊👊👊🤜🤛

No one wants attention from aggressive creeps... Everyone yearns for attention, but it should be the appropriate kind. NOT by approaching people on the street at night and being persistent about it.

This actually happened a lot to me in Japan. I am half Asian half White so they maybe don't feel to scared. One time a guy and I ended Up talking a lot about 遊戯王. Which was really fun. He was there with his friends and we ended up talking about the characters. They asked me to join them in that Izakaya or restaurant. I declined for I couldn't use my bank account at that time and only had little money left 🤣

I don't blame these girls for ignoring most boys that try to chat them. I'm a boy but i get tons of flirts from other boys which make me feel uncomfortable. I'm more comfortable if girls try to chat me ...

Looking at how it happening quite often + almost to all girl, it seems to be more dangerous and no sincerity about it. Never thought that this happen in Japan, cause i thought ppl in Japan are more invtrovert + shy to stranger kinda thing

@@yagruumbagaarn Yes you're spot on. Hyena men (those early 40s and beyond dressing like Ikemen and standing around watching for prey are common, and they've got absolutely nothing to lose) took advantage of this so called perceived shy/introvert situation and milked them hard
