I've only been around popular areas like Osaka, Kyoto and Tokyo for 3 weeks so I personally didn't get any kind of racist interactions before. In fact, I was mostly approached because they knew I was from abroad and just wanted to ask how I find it here in Japan. The people there are very respectful and civilised compared to where I live (UK...), which is really nice.
