The 'Beauty Standard' is public mental recoding for commercial benefit. Started with consumption of hollywood, music, advertising of global brands with the expansion of SK economy> More of the population has higher spendable income and gradually covet the imported imagery associated of western culture and successful expensive brands>. SK (highly homogenous) assimilate and duplicate within the country e.g. kpop idols, kdramas, own brands> Over time feel good factors associated with strong branding and European culture subtly reframes thinking on what 'good' looks like in local population leading to insecurities and peer pressure.>. Growing trend for eyelid and jaw plastic surgeries & IV glutathione 'spa treatments' to get 'the look' seen on fave celebs: small oval face with walnut eyes and double eyelids and milk bottle skin.> Thin SK idols, tv, social media, webtoons, advertising reinforce the standard imagery as 'pretty & successful' and normalising a tough 'enviable' target . Unless your V or damn lucky, it's deliberately hard to achieve without cash outlay or loans, diets, beauty creams, skin & hair bleach, gym membership etc. which in turn mobilises other commercial businesses. Underpinning this entire thing : Historical bias and foreigner fear in the SK population is used subconsciously to validate actions & maintain the standard. There is an overwhelming desire to 'belong', not be a family outcast and to get ahead financially. e.g. Pressure when society employment opportunities and marriage place a heavy value burden on appearance> Growing trend of parents giving children plastic surgery gifts before leaving school so hardly anyone knows what they used to look like before entering adulthood. e.g. Historic attitude of associating whiteness with greatness and wealth and the opposite with poverty, crime and general unattractiveness> Skin bleaching is a whole separate global issue. SK is not immune. Many convince themselves ghost pale is ideal or fair as a corpse is 'healthy' and debate it's a 'personal preference'. e.g. Strong culture not to marry outsiders. The opportunity to widen genetics naturally over time is lost. No money to be made in that!! (There's a reason Cha Eun Woo is unique. He's mixed!) For those coveting scandinavian blonde hair & grey/blue eyes - GOOD LUCK! The plan is that you pay and fake it until you NEVER make it. So....resorting to 'spa treatments' and plastic surgery market is kept secured for generations as long as the population are 'sheep' to what is going on .... the cycle continues. Is it any wonder SK is a world leader in beauty cosmetics and plastic surgery? Vanity is a moneymaker. People need to be aware of the pitfalls when buying products and services and of course learn to appreciate what you already have.

@@rjlee-cc4xy To anyone in Korea that undergoes plastic surgery (probably a lot) it makes them seem like they hide behind a literal mask. Many people do not look that way naturally and are only so because it is the result of a surgery. While these people have the right to do as they wish with their bodies, I find it cringy (in my honest opinion) they only really do so just to conform to societal pressure and be comfortable in their own skin. Not to pour vinegar over the wound, but this fake beauty is probably the reason why nobody in Korea has ever won an international beauty pageant such as Miss Universe and the like. Maybe that disqualifies them. That may sound kind of harsh, but let it be known that quite a lot of Koreans lowkey shit talk my people despite the fact that we have done nothing wrong to them. The beauty standard is really "STANDARD" in Korea. People generally try to define it as shape of nose, eyes, mouth, etc. The European and Russian look is the main beauty standard for korean. You may have noticed that always Ukrainian, Estonia, Romanian, Russian girls get much opportunities working in commercial advertisements and modeling. Because they have blue eyes and yellow skins. That's what korean like and they give preference to those beauties and it's honor for korean to have these girls in their shows/advertisements/movies. For korean, these people are brand and standard of beauty standard. Local Korean young guys and girls always want to be looked like a westerner. You may notice that the dying and coloring hairs is much trending now a days just because they want to have European hairs color. I remember my roommate was a Russian club boy. He used to work in a club for whole night and used to bring always new Korean girls in the home. But he himself was very messy and smelly guy. He rarely used to take a shower. Always had a smelly and wet socks and wearing shoes inside the room. Rarely he changed his socks in a month. Once he proudly told me as he has blue eyes so it's easy for him to pick korean girls as much as he wants 😄. He said he picked 6 different korean girls to the home in last 6 days. That was true. Even he went to Busan with one millionaire korean girl. But he had no return bus fair. I transferred bus fair in his bank account. So we can say that money isn't that much important for korean as nationality and look mater.

They do find white people really attractive but their beauty standard isn't based on white people. Many koreans have already tried to explain that. They like double eyelids, sharp noses and pale skin which are also available in entire east asia. Those features are not just white people features.. Just visit east Asian countries and you'll know. Their beauty standard is based on their own people with pale skin sharp nose double eyelids etc. I don't understand why ya'll western and south asian people think they only have mono eyelids, flat nose, small eyes and not pale skin. Well guess what that's not true at all. That just says how little knowledge y'all have about them. They have both mono eyelids and double eyelids. Most of my Chinese friends have double eyelids btw. They also have both sharp and flat noses. They also have pale, yellow toned very fair skin and kinda tanned skin. They also have small medium big eyes. In pictures and videos their eyes look way smaller and majority of them have really bad photo face based on my experience. Even the really good looking people in my class used to look like totally different people in pictures but irl they were way better looking. Even the super good looking ethereal east asian i saw irl had bad photo face.
@chemophile14 Жыл бұрын
@gamesonly in my dictionary, beauty standard means the look you are more attracted and korean wanna have serious relationships that's only Westerners and estern European lol. You may have noticed in night life the korean guys directly ask Western girls for nightstands, etc. But they don't ask these questions to local korean girls.

I'm a believer in the golden rule: treat others the way you want to be treated. I used to respect Korean people...only find out that many of them look down and talk crap about my people, including myself, so I see no reason to play nice with them. Beauty standards? What a joke. They make such a big deal about this in Korea, that so many people there undergo plastic surgery basically just to feel good in their own skin and fit in with everyone else. How pathetic. And yet not a single Korean person has ever won an international pageant title like Miss World or Miss Universe. But those representing my country have won these titles. Fake it 'til they make it, or maybe such fake beauty disqualifies them in the first place. Look at some before and after photos of Koreans undergoing plastic surgery. If it's indeed the same person, the differences are like night and day, and yet they have the audacity to call us "ugly". They can think what they want but at least we're not immature. It's disgusting how so many people worship Koreans without knowing how many of them mistreat others who are "beneath" them behind the scenes. Who knows what they really think about us when we're not around, acting one way and thinking another. Sad thing is many Koreans visit or even move to my country, and even then some of them will say nasty things, as if they can go anywhere and walk all over us just because they exist and have this superiority complex, holier-than-thou attitude that everyone should respect them and yet they can treat others however they want

My biggest dissapointment with Korean people is the fact that many of our grandfathers won a major battle during the Korean War (Battle of Yultong) which played a big role in turning the tide of the war. Even the Korean government and UN acknowledges this. Some people who know about the fact express their gratitude, even to us. Many of them are not alive anymore so saying thanks to us younger people means nothing unless it's for bringing the story to light. To pay respects to our grandfathers, the only way to do that is to share their story, which very few people seem to do if any at all, which means not enough people are talking about it and why a lot idiotic Korean people look down on us. Spreading the word might end the discrimination. Grateful? Prove it then. I just explained how. Otherwise talk is cheap. If this part of history is so important, then how come almost no one talk about this in school or outside class? Why is the Ministry covering it up? Teachers failing to talk about this may not be Korean students fault. The problem is that even when you know the facts, you do nothing to spread the word. There's only so much I can do. Korean people should be doing most of the talking because this is an event that happened on their land that somehow they've never heard of that outsiders like me have to tell you about. In the end, I don't hate Koreans but this is very dissappointing, and until you guys do something, the problem may only get worse.
