Greetings from North Carolina, USA: I really enjoy the style of your productions. Last week I couldn't spell Narrowboat, now after watching many of your videos I am an authority on the Narrowboat. Seriously, I am a one cat person, black with a little white, so your cats really draw mw in. The wildlife is such that I rewind just to look again. Your watercolors are wonderful. My wife watercolors as well(for fun only) , so I enjoy that part of your videos as well. Thanks

Thank you for the video. My boyfriend and I are planning to move on to a boat in a year's time. I currently have an office job as a writer and he's an illustrator so your story really resonates with me. Like Kath, I understand the sporadic nature of an artist's career and the importance of ensuring that all costs are covered. It's beautiful to see how you support one another and is a template for how I wish things will go when I move aboard and find my own remote job, too. Good luck, stay brave and happy cruising! - Steven

Hi ladies,as someone who was always self employed doing your returns was always for me last minute but every week I put aside 20% of my wages for tax purposes and as I used my car as transportation I could claim for fuel and wear and tear so it will be interesting to see if you can claim for fuel if you were moving from one place to another if you were wanting to specifically paint a subject or location one for the tax man to sort out, love your vlogs and as someone who worked away from home quite a lot i love your sense of freedom that never being in the same place too long gives, keep vloging

As others have written, that was a great video - informative, yes, but I also enjoyed the filing of the scenery and animals. Someone noticed bare feet: when I was a kid in Queensland, during the wet season my sister and I used to carry our shoes and socks to school because we had shallow floodwater (in drains) to get through; then dry the feet and shoes on for school, then off for the rest of the day. When you're moving, the cats are probably just exercising their curiosity by being inquisitive - as in, "Are we there yet?"

That should be "filming" of the scenery ...

Looks like being moored is just as relaxing as cruising. As for the boat work, I was once told that "Anyone that owns their own home deserves it." Sometimes you can take pride that you worked hard and own it, sometimes you get to suffer under the yoke of it. With the job work, let Kath keep her skills sharp, she may need them full time again some day, and extra income doesn't hurt. I look forward to the live event, I hope that timing works out so I can watch it.

Great video. We’re home with our new puppy ‘Jonty’. We’ve just had almost 2 weeks cruising, we went up the North Oxford Canal and did the Ashby Canal. It was beautiful and we met lots of lovely people. We cruised everyday because we had a deadline of the 7th to leave the boat but it was hard going and didn’t have any days just moored. We must get into a slower pace and enjoy the destinations as well as the journeys as it becomes exhausting especially in this heat. I love it on the canals but I don’t like the speeders and there were a few and not hire boaters! I watched one speed past me banging me into the Armco but when it got to the lovely shiny boat in front of me it dropped to tick over! I also hate the mossies and the horse flies. They hurt! Thanks for another great video.
@TheNarrowboatExperience6 жыл бұрын
That sounds like a lot of cruising and the heat has been ... well ... hot this last few weeks. Well done you. We keep trying to cruise but stop for lunch and forget to carry on after that. Can’t wait to see pics of puppy number 3. The others were so cute so I can only imagine Jonty is too!

Excellent healthy lifestyle! Enjoyed watching, I think you have the cc thing pretty much worked out! There are plenty of things that need doing on the boat daily, chores and maintenance. Vlogging and how about some merchandise? Photography could be quite lucrative alongside the painting!! How about having a book published about your experience? Or approaching a tv company, or magazine, there would be lots of interest in your adventures! Have you tried any fishing yet? You may be surprised how interesting it can be! I took along my fishing gear on a family river boat holiday, they were all none fishermen, but after a couple of days they were all buying nets and those little fishing kits they sell along the river!! It got quite competitive!! ;)

Tough decision, spend time relaxing moored up in a nice green outdoor environment or " relaxing " in a concrete/steel/glass/tarmac/noisy/polluted environment. I think you've made the right choice and I'm very envious.
@klayofthemystics5 жыл бұрын
As always...LOVE the cats, they give me a smile whenever I see them. Do you worry about them when they're out and about? Mine loved the outside, she would go out even in rain and snow and sit on the top step and her tail would be going a mile a minute (Kilometer a minute?) One day she went out and didn't come back. Coyotes had invaded the neighborhood.

Wonderful video. I love the stream-of-conscious stuff too, but this was soooo relaxed. A nice contrast with the cats prowling about. I often wonder what they are thinking, one afternoon rubbing their faces on a favorite tree; the next morning the tree is gone and there are some creepy sheep staring back at them. I am wearing my new badge proudly, and now I can imagine you hand packaging it and sending it to me ! As soon as I am moved to my new house, I will be able to order some art. Brilliant phrase Everyday's a weekend And it can be for a lot of people that have equity in their house and can downsize to a Narrowboat or Campervan Too many people work too many unnecessary hours going to work to pay a mortgage or rent when if they lived a simple life they'd have much more time off and enjoy life and be able to retire much earlier in their life

That was great. You probably worried that it wasnt going to be very interesting. As a wanna be cc'er i was keen to see how you actually manage it finacially. Mags is very much like you Kath, im more of a dreamer suggesting ways of cc'ing but Mags keeps my feet on the ground with regard to income etc. Brilliant suggestion about remote work and thats something ill be keeping a very close eye on from now on. I was wondering how you keep the canal side wildlife safe from the cats - I'd have them with cow bells on.
@thesneakypirate51906 жыл бұрын
Sunshine Coast Summer you can't put a cow bell on a cat it frightens off the gazelles and warthogs. The gods have gifted prey animals speed an agility while gifting cats with stealth , cunning and intelligence. Therefore I would say it fair to assume most gazelles and worthogs would easily escape from cats. It's the hyenas you should worry about.

This struck me as a very Australian question. We're really used to the idea that cats aren't wildlife and that the wildlife needs to be protected from them because they have no natural protection... which in Europe is simply not true. There are various native cats (including lynx) here in Germany and the rest of the wildlife here evolved with them in place, so people just don't think in terms of protecting everything else from cats. England is similar, but managed to kill off the lynx and the wildcat a lot earlier :( (ref.: www.gwct.org.uk/research/long-term-monitoring/national-gamebag-census/mammal-bags-comprehensive-overviews/wild-cat/ and en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_wildcat and for Germany also en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eurasian_lynx)

Re: cats. You might be amused by this story. Some years I helped my eldest daughter and her cat move from San Francisco to St. Louis where she had enrolled in Law School. We spent several days on the road (2100 miles). Each night (4 or 5 of them) we stopped at the same brand of Motel and each night the cat adapted to the familar surroundings and each moring she got back into the car without a fuss. But on the last day out the cat ran under the toilet tank and refused to come out. When towed forcible out, her howls and her body-language CLEARLY said "Sandee, we have looked at FOUR of these things,, and they are all just alike. Enough is enough! Thus one will do JUST FINE!"

I think the cats are doing well. They get plenty of exercise and are eating well, sometimes better than us! The Q&A means that you can type in a question and we can answer live on the video. KZbin then let’s the video stay up long after the live so other people can watch if they wish.
