What do we expect from train interiors? [Ft.

Today we have a chat about what do we expect when riding on different trains. Facilities, seating, formations etc. We split this into different categories due not one train being suitable for eveything. Thank goodness for that.

Same, it was such an appropriate detail to have. Also since GWVillager didn't know what Pokemon was much, I refered to my Vaporeon as a "water cat."

It's quite rare now to see the B fleet Balloons out. They're typically used as the shop at North Pier during gold weekends or special events. I went to Blackpool on holiday last year and they had one of the retro fitted millennium trams on as a duplicate during the summer peak

to be fair, the large luggage racks on the Edinburgh trams are probably for people travelling to and from the airport- not with the expectation of people taking the tram long distance

RE : regional catering. all regional longer distance trains should have catering. i nearly passed out on a great northern service cause i couldn't get a drink on a hot day after having delt with gwr hell

Yeah, it is pretty annoying how those services are pretty much straddling the line of regional and commuter. It would make sense if those trains had an on board vending machine for cheap and easy catering on board.

Every year, in the summer time, my family takes a train from Bournemouth to London Waterloo. Ever since SWR got rid of the catering trolley, we had to bring our own water or accept our fate and arrive into Waterloo as charcoal.

RE 26:34 what GWVilliager assumes is correct. I know that the 700s at least have fire doors. Also is probably a requirement that they have fire doors at certain intervals.

Fair enough, that makes sense. I might've seen fire doors on the 345 but I couldn't confirm them myself.

ok, they are getting to 5 coaches on the 197s, just need south wales to stop taking them off long distance, then all will be fine, never encountered the toilet issues on 197s but then im lucky it seems

Liverpool to Norwich route is the only thing worse than a 2 car Swansea to Cardiff. especially as someone who has issues standing for long

I thought Swansea - Cardiff was usually 2 cars anyway, unless you're lucky enough to get the 3 car 197 now.

I'm at 38:25 and the gears in my brain have sort of churned out a framework that i quite like to explain regional trains you sort of have two axis to them A: their stopping pattern and B: their distance covered some are basically "intercity-lite" stopping for large towns over a long distance or it could be a short shuttle to keep a certain large towns passengers clogging the local trains some are your "slow trains" that stop at all the stations over quite a long distance and then you have your typical short distance trains that stop at all the stations (the usual situation on branchlines) i think all regional trains should have some form food on board but I'd say it's importance increases with journey time also im wondering if you're going to talk about sleeper trains as thats another can of worms that doesn't fit neatly.

Sorry for the delayed reply. I can see what you mean at least. I haven't been on a sleeper train so it's unlikely I'll talk about them in detail until that opportunity arises.

@@MaverickHunterDaniel I managed to go on a french intercité de nuit and it was quite nice I have to say, even if its much more basic than something like a night riviera compartment.
