How long after over seeding do you give it before thinking about having to re do it? I scarified, aerated, over seeded and top soiled about 4 weeks ago now in NI, and yet so see germination anywhere. Time to go back over with seed? Been watering twice daily

@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert was just a box of Gro Sure Multi Purpose Seed from the local garden shop, doesn’t actually say what seed makes up the mix. Also says 7-21 days germination for favourable weather so perhaps taking a little longer with the cooler weather we’ve been having up to now

I only have a hand spreader. I measured out 200g for 30m2 in the end and kept spreading until it had gone. The compost Nr 4 did not go as far as I thought, ended up using 4 of my 10 bags, need to keep the other 6 for the front when I do that one. Wetting agent applied, a quick water and let’s see how it goes.

If anybody is in the Doncaster/sheffield/ Rotherham area that’s ordering a batch, maybe I can order a few more bags into your delivery. Should make it cheaper per bag for you and I’ll not get stung too much either. It’s not cheap in the smaller quants. I ordered 10 bags, perhaps should have had 15.

Hi Daniel, love your videos. A question, I have a massive tree in my garden, got the crown lifted last year, but there’s still shade from say 11:30 am - 4:30 pm each day. There’s a lovely old guy who lives near me and has the best garden in the street so I asked for his advice regarding the lawn, but he told me basically forget grass in my garden not just because of the shade but also the tree roots. Is he right or should I persevere? Unfortunately I can’t get rid of the tree due to preservation order on it and blimey even if the tree was felled I’d need to JCB to get rid of its roots! I have tried to put effort in to overseeing over the years but nothing seems to work. Am I wasting my time?

Hi Daniel I follow your videos with great interest as I believe a lawn has to be the best for an attractive garden. Last year I had a new turf lawn laid by a landscaper but it has failed. Areas subsided by upto 2 inches and there is a fair bit of weed grass in the lawn. I can feel the lawn sink below my feet as I cut. The turf was a mix of fine and broader leaf but the fine leaf died back within a couple of months leaving a thin lawn. The wet winter resulted in a mass of worm cast. Do I start again or persevere by removing the weed grass, adding top soil/seed mix to level the uneven surface and dig the grass out of the really deep sunk area, build up and seed or turf? I would add that I am elderly and infirm so it is hard to garden now so may need to employ help. Thanks

It’s not quite is it? when you removed the covers, your sward was quite thick, to which you then applied various products to bring it on further. I’m talking about removing the covers and you have several largish areas that show no grass coming through at all, or just a very light showing of new shoots, even though the area was scarified and seed applied at the correct rate with Lawn Compost #4. Maybe I was too heavy handed with the #4?

I follow all your videos and buy products too. I’m just putting this out there if ok? I am disabled and my wife does our lawns. I bought a new Allett Stirling 51 mower, c/w 10A battery and rapid charger, also Allett grooved roller and also the attachment that can be used to put on QC cartridges and will fit the mower above. In all £4,600. This is 2 weeks old, never used, never been on concrete etc and so no roller scratches. It’s on carpet in my garage. I was diagnosed with cancer same day delivered 2 weeks ago, also my wife diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. This means with no real garden workers in my area and I know have never used a mower like this new Stirling, do you know of anyone looking for a Rolls Royce Mower, as you know by using one. I know I will lose money but if it went to a good home, I can accept that. I’m devastated by all this and a 2 week old mower with 2 years warranty registration with Allett complete. Would you or a customer be looking for one? I’m not letting a guy use it to ruin on my stone work around my lawns and will stick with old Allett Kensington. Ian

@@JSMCSUK I’ve heard nothing back from the other gentleman if you’re interested and I am also giving foc the grooved roller costing £229 and cog attachment for QC cartridge adapter costing from Allett £83. So in all with rapid charger and 10AH Battery it all came to £4700. As it needs picking up and hasn’t been used or even rolled over driveway so no marks on rear roller. I am letting it go for a brilliant price. The money will go towards my care as totally disabled chest down. Now got cancer. All can be proved. Ian

How much it takes to cover your lawn, you will know this

I'll elaborate. If you have a big lawn fill the sprayer to the max measurement, walk at a slow pace up & down your lawn covering once. note how much water is left in the sprayer & deduct from the max amount. You are now left with an approx (give or take walking speed) amount required to spray your entire lawn. If you have a smaller lawn & a large sprayer just use a bit less to start with (less weight).

I've watched most of your videos, and I'm pretty sure you mentioned this in some of them, but I might have missed it or forgotten. Anyway, how do you manage weeds on a young lawn? I've come across a lot of conflicting advice-some say not to use weed killers if the grass is less than 6 months old, while others suggest waiting until after two mows. What has been your experience? If using fluoxipr then you can spray after 4 weeks but if using mcpa, dicamba, mecroprop then it’s 3 months on a new lawn

Amazing looking lawn but almost demoralising seeing lack of progress on mine in a similar timeframe. I’ve got some germination in the sunny bits but it’s a sloped shaded lawn…….should I cut it even though I can still see seed on the shaded bits or wait to see if they germinate?

@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert no admittedly I couldn’t stretch to all the investment (seed spreader, wetting agent spreader, field compost I just used garden centre top soil, fleece etc) I did get a scarifier this year for the first time but with it being so wet and my first ever time using it it basically ploughed my garden and left my with almost no grass at all. It cost £150 just for the scarifier, seed and top soil, would cost far more for all the kit and materials sadly. Ah well all learning. Maybe next year I’ll save for the investment and try and do it properly

Depends on the seed type your trying to germinate first & foremost. Rye germinates faster than most I believe, but others can be much longer than 2 weeks in good conditions.

I’m in Norfolk and sowed end of March so similar weather and mine has germinated, so maybe your seed is duff.
