Cav archers need a slight overhaul. They should never be as fast as regular cav imo. Or have a reduced speed while moving after shooting and it takes a second to reach back to full speed.

If turma are already a nightmare in the hands of players like kimo, imagine how it feels to play against a bowl of bone bow chariot archers... Boit already told me he doesn't agree with my idea but i still think a slight delay on movement after the attack animation might be the solution to make it less frustrating to deal with

As an AoE 2 player who remembers the Huns and Mongol metas, it was never the speed that was the issue but the mass. Cav Archers don’t do that much damage but when you have a big enough mass, you can one shot anything. Therefore, aggression that prevents that deathball is a good counter.

Cavs archers are not even the issue and i have seen bone chariot-balls straight up get annihilated by cavalary and counter archers AND counter cavalary. I love chariot archer spams because that unit is so fun to use because of micro potential but it is straight up a bad choice in many fights (just better to go camels many times) The main and only issue is chariot ball + son of osiris Maybe son of osiris should count as both a hero and a myth unit because currently it seems impossible to win a fight against a cautious player with son(s) of osiris

Char archers should have shorter range. Their long range is the main enabler of the chariot death balls.

Turma are extremely annoying and I hate them, but I'm not sure they're too STRONG per se. Berserks (without Hall of Thanes) and Throwing Axemen is just a really terrible comp to throw at Turma, and once they approached full pop any combination of units would have ran over Magic. Obviously hindsight is 20/20 but in this case swapping one of the opening longhouses for a great hall and hiding RC in base until they hit critical mass would have shut the Turma down, as would a sneaky age up and Hill Forts.

As someone who is not a good player, I hate Cavalry archer units and really struggle with them. Much better players can probably deal with them fine though and I don’t think they’re OP

They get countered easily by both anti cavalary and anti archer units

To put things into perspective both normal cavalry and anti-cav cav annihilate them, so i don't really see the issue On top of that get some comp like anti archer archer + any cav/infantry and what will they do at that point ?

if he just jump to heroic age can spam Haskl and not spaming throwing axmen that bad thing in norse the best counter archer is in age 3

Magic is my favorite player, but I think he didn't choose the right army for this one. RC/Berzerk would have been better. Also no Rightsula hurts. In my low elo adventures, I go for a lot of walls and build an extra tower or two against turma spammers, get crenelations and they cannot push you at all.

Honestly speaking, as a viewer, it seems retold is much better balanced than all the patches of the vanila. Gaia is ok, Kronos is ok, there are no bad gods to pick. Really well done by the developers!

As much as I love to hate Atlantean and think Cav archers are dumb, it's not how to play Heimdall in this matchup imo. Don't make another Einheri, keep him safe until later. Take the blast off autoqueue, he's literally the only unit you need to micro later. Doesn't matter 1TC or 2 (or village centre) the prio is the same. #1 Prequeue Rigsthula #2 Prequeue Hamask. As many vils on food/gold and as few on wood for production buildings/houses as possible and SPAM berserks. Only like 2-3 longhouses and an armoury. A Berserk trains in 7 sec with Rigsthula. You can raid with berserks and skirmish for favor but don't hard commit fight the army until you have Hamask and you have more berserks than whatever they have combined (you should if prioritising resources correctly because their units take longer to train, slightly more expensive + needed vil time to build), wall up your base + future resources until you do. Hamask is the key as it reduces the unit disadvantage for berserks that you can win with larger numbers in a brawl against murm/turm, you are making the most of the Einheri horn blast and the damage/speed from Hamask (and Odin regeneration) by spreading it out. TA are not worth it because while TA beat murmillo, Turma beat TA harder and can kite berserks forever if necessary. Massing RC takes too long and if they ever see it before the mass Katapeltes own you anyway. If equal TC murm/turm kill what you can, don't chase without a horn blast, repeat. The longer you are on same TC's you get an eco and production advantage through Rigsthula (you are ahead on vils after 5 min 1 TC alone, 2 TC is faster). If they go 2 to 1 or 3 to 2 TC classical bring Einheri and go crack it with undermine if needed. Grab a TC if you clearly win a fight and are able to. If it's 1TC all turma or when they give up on murms to go full turma, def vils, keep walling, go heroic, freeze the turma ball + surround them with walls or go for the base. If they hit heroic first pick a fight with your 1300 extra resource army asap or you will lose. As a tip, when you do start fighting and have more favor, upgrading the EInheri is better than training another one. The awkward part about using Einheri is timing the horns effect. The upgrade DOUBLES the time from 5 to 10 seconds. As the tailing off of the effect is slower it makes it much easier to chase.

I don’t think it’s that Turma are strong just more so that pros don’t make units to counter them. I said this during TheMista’s set during the Wrath of the Gods tourney but a big reason why he’s so good is he actually makes units to adapt to the situation.

archer cavalry is compared to legacy too much of accurate and kiting is easy with them. In legacy archers had really hard time to land first shot, becouse of really nice and magical mathematical formula 🙂

they still miss a lot, there are just 2 many turmas. i feel the issue here is the lack of counterplay vs that ammount of turmas
