Pour beeswax when it's 110° F and the key to prevent tunneling is age your candle before you burn it. After you make them, set aside in semi dark place with good airflow, sunlight will bleach beeswax candles Use a quality braided cotton wicks. They don't burn too hot.

oh wow i’m early Edit: I would like to say as a 20 year old though,, i’ve never felt more safe and motivated to make my mistakes and really throw myself at homesteading and just slow farming. I’ve been watching you guys over this whole year and i adore your videos so much ❤ I would actually love to see a sourdough video as i have so much i need to use but can’t ever find a good recipe or “how to bake with it” video

Hi there… thank you for all your video’s and sharing your life with us. We’ve been on an acreage for 38 years, raised our kids here but moving to the country back then was more about getting out of the madness of the city to the quiet country side than homesteading. BUT… life is different these days and we are looking at doing more with what we have as we enter the Winter Season of life. You are teaching some of us older ones how to do things better. Thank you for that❤ I would also like to know more about your sourdough starter, You always seem to have an abundance of starter in that 8cup PC measuring cup, so if you can share how often you feed it, how much etc. I’ve noticed that you keep it refrigerated as well. Blessings on your family as you share your lives with us.

Yup, involving the children is a vital part of their education too. The measuring, the mixing up and turning a bunch of ingredients into a finished product is maths, chemistry, magic, therapy, life skills etc. Thanks for sharing!

I remember when you had 30k subs. Love to see you get recognized for the great channel and loving family unit. 💖 You are definitely right in teaching your kids. I´m 34 and my parents never taught me. I had to learn the last 16 years and I´m not the best cook. I´m average. I just like to wing it. But still, I try to include and teach my kids (5 and 3) and to be intentional about these things. Hearing you say you want to do that too gives me strength to continue with that path.

The one mistake I made with my children was not teaching them to cook. When my daughter left for college, she lived on Ramin noodles. Now that she is in her 40s, she doesn't cook much at all. I feel that I failed her when it came to homemaking skills. Growing up, I was always in the kitchen watching my mom and learning everything I could. My mom was a seamstress, and that's a skill I picked up from her as well. Today, in my 60s, I have my own little sewing business that supplements my retirement income. You're both amazing parents who are teaching your children the necessities for life.

I dont think you have failed her, if she was called to it she would have sought it out. My mother never cooked from scratch, never sewed, never gardened, so never taught me those things, nor did she have any interest in doing any of those things, yet when I reached adulthood i was drawn to them all and found ways to learn them on my own. Now in my mid 30s i do quite well with them, but only because i wanted to. Her disinterest is not a failure on your behalf, its just simply not where her heart lies ❤️

A very nice video, thank you very much for that. There's a lot going on with you, I'm very happy for you that you now have time to implement all your ideas. As Michelle said, you can't start early enough to teach children the skills we take for granted. It's nice to see your daughter enjoying baking and I'm sure she's proud of the result. I finally have the garden ready for the winter and am looking forward to a somewhat quieter time to plan for the spring. I'm retiring next year and will have a lot more time for my garden and to implement a lot of what I was able to learn from you. Thank you, God bless you all!

I make beeswax candles every year. I highly recommend buying a dedicated hot plate and double boiler pot setup that you don’t ever use for anything else. Lay down some parchment paper or newspaper under your entire setup. This will prevent the dreaded cleanup. Also, be careful what you set your jars on when you’re burning the candles. The jars get extremely hot. I once set one on a plastic card table during the holidays and it melted right through!!

My mom tried to teach me how to cook when I was young as a homeschooling subject (or however you wanna label it 😆) but due to my sensory processing disorder it was very hard. Even now I have to have my hubby do the meatloaf 😆, but I do let my kiddos cook with me when they want too ❤ and even though sometimes they stress me out during, I still love the help 😊

We found that beeswax does not work in a container as the wick that you need to use needs to be very hot and can crack the container. Beeswax burns at a high temperature. My daughter got a really good recipe that she uses for candle containers, 50% soya wax, 30% coconut oil and 20% beeswax. It works awesome really good in containers. Hope this helps.

When it comes to yeast, what you have is what you use. Back before we understood what yeast was, it was literally the yeast living in your wooden spoon. No matter what yeast you use, it will impart some unique flavors. If you are only using honey and water with just barely enough additives to keep the yeast alive, then some (but not all) people will notice the difference. With that much black tea, you'd need a really trained super taster to notice. Way back 20 years ago, using champagne yeast was also contentious. Back then everyone said a fruit wine yeast was best (I haven't been keeping up with modern trends though). I bring this up because of another person's comment, but also champagne yeast was always my favorite.

I deal with health issues like rheumatoid arthritis uveitis of the eyes, so changeing my whole diet and what I can eat has really helped with my daily living. I lost my old dairy doe, her name was Adessa she lived a long time she was 14 and 4 months. I bought her has a yearling who was in milk a long time ago. Hi! It's Misty. I am the oldest of 5. My mother was single most of my life growing up. She worked 12hr swing shifts for most of that time. She was gone before I woke and didn't get home till after bed. I wasn't taught a lot. We could do the basic stuff, food from a box or can and etc. we basically ate junk my entire childhood, survival food. I've had weight trouble my entire life because of it. I didn't know better as far as diet till years later. I didn't learn much about adulting except on my own. Budget. Finance. All that I had to learn on my own. Home making. Nurturing children. My oldest child is now 24 and my youngest 15, 2 boys. Not having been taught so much about being an adult made things so much harder. Still is. Even as simple as taking care of my body. The biggest thing I wish I had been taught is how important exercise is. Everything else comes easier if your body is well prepared. Including mental health. I've endured so much more trauma than I would have if I had been better prepared to be an adult. I was forced to leave home @16. It all made me who I am, made me a stronger person but I still wonder what it would be like if that had been different. Providing for family financially is actually not as important as other things. God has given me the blessing of being in my children's lives more than I had experienced as a child. I can't say I've been perfect BY FAR! I'm still thankful though. I was a single mom for a lot of my boys lives as well. Yet he showed me how to do it and be more present. Thankful for God's grace. Thank you for your videos

About the candles, I'm not sure if you have any dogwood trees there, but, have you ever tried mixing fresh, ground dogwood bark, and or, dogwood into your candles? The smell is awesome. Education is about to get a big boost in allowing parents to decide how they want their children to learn. The current climate takes away many rights for parents to decide how they want their children to be taught. I have seen homeschooled children do extremely well in society. Their teachers are mostly their parents. Most of their parents do not have college degrees. Yet, it is these children who excel. Now that your children are in school, it would be a good time to dwell a bit more into the workings of homeschooling and how children of different ages learn...etc. Some people are probably interested in how you teach and/or what you teach due to the perception of what it takes to be a teacher. What I have seen on your videos is that your children are learning something everyday, every hour and every minute. They are learning how to handle life's ups and downs. My reasons for making this suggestion to you...Cody and Michelle, is that you are a young married couple with young children and you have decided to live your life the way you want to live. There are other young married couples out there who are trying to navigate the type of life you have. Mentor. 😉

Glad you figured it out! What was the issue? There were a few people saying that it was playing in the wrong language for them.

@@morethanfarmers It is weird because when I click on the video it is in french and the title as well is in french so to get in English I have click on settings and after on audio track. I select english and it works. But I hope for your next video I will have everything in english straightly. I understand in French because I am French but I want to progress in Englsih so I want it only in this language. Guys your videos are great !!😉 I work for a little organic seeds company in France near Angers we are in a farm. We sell seeds, plants, trees...

There have been a few comments about audio in different languages.. I believe it has to do with a setting on your tv.. people said it worked fine on their phones. I can’t find anything on my end that I can do.

😂 Yesssss.... We were told she was a boy when we got her, and by the time we noticed she wasn't, the name had already stuck 😁 Slightly embarrassing and also humorous 😏

Ironic you say that about time change, because farming and cattle is exactly what it was invented for. 😂 Kids don't factor in, but the other things do.

That is strange.. There have been a few people that said that, and I haven't found a solution. I think it's a setting you can choose, but I will keep trying to figure out if there's something I can do.

I cannot watch bc in Japanese. I’ve tried to change but YT doesn’t offer English version in setting.

@@morethanfarmers I tried all settings on YT & TV. It is only on YT paid subscription on my ROKU TV. My Apple TV & phone/iPad are fine. I just cast from phone to TV. Great Video!!!

@@morethanfarmers YT said it was because the video used the “Auto Dubbed” feature. I have no clue…that was just their reply to my trouble ticket. Hope this helps in some way!
