Hi! I first saw your NSF GRFP video a couple months ago when I applied and am so happy I stumbled across this video too! When applying for grad school, I had no idea what to expect as a first-gen student. Thanks for helping make grad school accessible!

During your interview, have you noticed others’ background? Were they mostly Americans? What’s the ratio of internationals to US residents? (I’m holding an F1 visa and kinda worry about the distribution and opportunities given to the global cohort) Thanks!!! The video is awesome!!!

Peace be to you! I'm a new subscriber! I REALLY like your channel! I earned a Doctorate in Health Education in 2012. It was a TOUGH 😧but, rewarding experiences!😀 Are you planning to do a post-doctoral fellowship?🤔I had looked at doing one in Health Care Ethics, at NIH (it's in Bethesda, Maryland). However, it's two years long and doesn't pay very much (MUCH less than my PA job, anyway)! I look forward to following your progress! I wish you the VERY best of succes in your positive endeavors!😊

Hi Alpha! :) I am starting my process of applying to PhD programs. Like you, I would like to apply to multiple programs. Something that gives me some anxiety about this, though, is the part about the Letters of Recommendation; in all the programs I am interested in, the recommenders (professors, PIs, employers etc) must submit their letter to the application to the website of the program. That makes me feel anxious, asking someone to send their letter of recommendation numerous times for me. How was your experience?
@lillianinequilibrium

I felt weird about it but it’s their job to do this - they’ve likely done it for others before. As long as you give them a list with deadlines in advance then don’t worry about it!

Hello Lillian, thank you so much for this video. I really learned a lot from your experience. I came across your video because I’m searching about interview experience from international students applying to the BBS PhD program at Harvard. I’m actually planning to apply to the program but I’m worried about the interview knowing that I live abroad. So, I would like to ask if do you have any idea how the Admission Office interview international student? Thank you so much and wish you all the best in your PhD program. 😊

I have applied at Johns Hopkins BCMB, CMM etc., Harvard MCB, UCLA, Caltech BMB, and University of Minnesota. I am worried that I applied just before the deadline, and it can have negative impact.
