It’s been a year that I have been a project lead and I wished I had learned about this early on. I realize I have so much to learn. I didn’t know that project management was even a profession, I just thought it was a natural progression in the career to become a manager. Turns out it’s more than just experience in your chosen field, but management is really a different skill to master.

Management really is a skill that needs to be built upon by experience and lessons learned along the way. I do have a 45 min webinar that I think will benefit you. In this free training I walk you through the five key items needed on all projects, it's what I call the FAB FIVE FUNDAMENTALS OF PROJECT MANAGEMENT. The FAB FIVE are the 5 key items that you must do on every project - if you only do 5 things, these are them! It’s a great way to simplify projects, while still doing the essentials needed to ensure project success. Save your seat here: www.slayprojectmanagement.com/webinar Hope you check it out and thanks for watching, cheers!

I just realised I already do project management , but with video games. I get together a team usually 2 to 5 people. Then I work on something a few hours for up to one day to seven days . Remember the results , tweak my performance test the results on the next attempt and keep making adjustments until I have the desired results.

I have a video on Project Manager Interview questions and answers. I will leave the link below. I also have a free webinar (I will put that link below) that I think will really help you prepare as well. Just because you don't have the title of PM doesn't mean that you don't have the experience or capabilities, have confidence in yourself and the experience you have already gained to date. I still don’t understand. A project manager for what type of job? I kind of understand the material covered from a military leadership perspective. But how do you fit my set of skill sets (included everything that you covered) into the actual type of project in the civilian world. Can you provide a video breaking it “Barney style”. For example, “Joe is a going to build his resume, interview and accept a job as a project manager dealing with landscaping (this area can be changed), but he provided his 5 year experience as a landscaper to now accept the task of recruiting landscapers, assigning their tasks, assessing their performance as well as understanding the future landscaping projects, getting his higher ups at ease by letting them know that you know what you are doing. Then providing them with updates on the progress of the projects, etc…” this could be applied into any other type of areas as a project to manage, right?

Guess it depends on the department u work what’s their expectation of a PM. Sometime they give a PM title but want more than a pure PM. I myself r PM title but also does BA/Product. Although u r not expected to be a SME on it but with those skills set, definitely helps with understanding and managing the project timeline and result better. Sometime if is just PM role, the expectation of deliverables and schedule doesn’t make sense to business and tech team. Especially if the department is a small one and resource is limited, then a PM role will likely be doing more job title.

Hi there, I think an awesome video for a new young PM is how to become an effective communicator. I talk to my buddies still in school about being an assistant PM and a big thing that comes up is the amount of communication that I do. Thanks for your time and great video!

We get the responsibilities of a PM but what site are they actually on warehouse, restaurant construction,.... Or is a project manager just a project manager and then they manages the project?
@AdrianaGirdler

A project manager is a specific role....like a teacher, doctor, etc. Depending on the organization, they may have a dedicated role for a project manager...others may combine it with other activities. When I was doing engineering work, everything I did was a project but I was called an engineer. I hope this helps.

Hi, Leonardo. There aren’t specific degrees for project management but most employers require a degree of some sort.
