Question, what is the basic breakdown of play calling terminology. Like what words that are used by a majority of play terminology to tell what to do and where. Like what words tell the X receiver to go to 2 yards outside the numbers on the left side of the formation
@chuckbizzert90985 жыл бұрын
Terminology is different for each coach /playbook, there are common terms used among coachs that come from the same coaching tree and run similar system, the basic order of playcalling is : formation, adjustments , protection/blocking, route combos/run play. As far as wide reciever splits they can vary based on play and during playbook installs the coaching staff let recievers know whether he should be in lets say a plus split(2 yards outside the numbers) based on the intent of the route combo and how its supposed to manipulate the defense
@613and8025 жыл бұрын
It also depends on where the ball is. Teams generally have base rules for where to line up if the ball is in the middle of the field or on the hash. Receivers check where the ball is and line up accordingly. This is especially important in college where the hash marks are much wider. After that, adjustments are based on tags to the formation or rules based on the route being run.
@chuckbizzert90985 жыл бұрын
@@613and802 that is true if you are lined up to the boundary side you would never run an out breaking route from a plus split or even probably from the numbers, you would have a close split, thats why i said it would be explained to recievers on the playbook install

Kevin Stefanski might be the next guy to follow that career trajectory. According to the Athletic, he was pivotal to the comeback Minnesota had be Denver last week. -[What that meant was backyard, sandlot football. After burning through a whole package of two-minute drill plays, Stefanski got out a whiteboard and marker and started drawing brand new plays from scratch. “One of them was a big play to Dalvin,” Cousins said. “… There were a few times they did that and it ended up being big plays, which is a great job by them on the fly in between possessions.”]

@@TheQBSchool Hi JT, thanks for your answer but that Wikipedia article does not explain what I've asked. Maybe the confussion is because of my english (sorry about that). I mean: as far as I get to know, in some formations there must be some WR "covering" another wideout of the offense. How does it work and when are the refs gonna call penalties, apart from when there aren't at least seven players on the offensive team, including two eligible receivers, on or within a few inches of their line of scrimmage? Oh shoot!!! I actually know Drew Brees's Quarterback Coach. He coached me in college at Bucknell University. I picked up a ton of stuff from him... The Rams Special Teams Coach, Bones Fassell, was also on the staff too... In a practical sense, sometimes the Head Coach has to yell at someone to address a situation and the Quarterback Coach serves as a buffer. I really appreciate your addressing the ethnicity elephant in the room... I was looked over for opportunities to enter the field due to the issue so I appreciate it being mentioned so hopefully younger guys don't have to miss out on talented personnel.

@InvictusManeo775 жыл бұрын
Well for one, only 12% of population is left-handed. Then you have baseball stealing all the top level left handed athletes. But let's say you do employ a lefty QB for your offensive. Now everything is flipped. You will need a good right tackle to protect the blindside and plays will bootleg the other way. Finally, I don't think the opposite rotational spin of the ball will be too impactful for the WRs. It would take some adjustment for sure, but not impossible. See Jerry Rice numbers from Montana to Young. I'm sure there are other things as well. Feel free to at me with anything I missed.

I think it's hard in any profession for a guy to respect a superior that's never done it themselves. There are exceptions to every rule, but in my opinion, if your going to be a position coach, you should have played the position. I thought it was cool when McCarthy was talking about Leon Lett, he mentioned that they used his game tape to coach their DL. That's probably why he and Kellen Moore were 2 of the few coaches he kept on his staff. Lett was great at his position and Moore was super smart and great at his position. Moore is one of those guys on the fast track. He went from QB coach to OC really fast. The fact that McCarthy is willing to let Moore install the offense and call the plays speaks volumes to his respect for his ability as a coach.

@@TheQBSchool It is a developing league that will take place in Mexico with only 12 teams with the name that translates to "Elysium". The captains are called "kings", and the squad is only 11 players, so they play offense and defense. If more players want to join, you need another 11. So a platoon can be 22, 33, 44 players ... etc. The more players the more complicated however. So the ideal number is 12: 11 players and 1 overseer ("coach").

Good stuff JT. I think people definitely need to realize that the coaching staff dynamic makes a big impact on what coaches can do. QB coach is such an interesting position because you will need good communication and relationship skills to adjust to different personalities and learning styles. Also, as you mentioned, the league should seek to do a better job in getting more minority QB coaches as well due to the changing landscape of the QB position. That would help with those first two skills I mentioned (although coaches in general should be doing those things well).
