Its amazing. He wasn't like that when he played at Michigan. Ive been a Buckeye fan since 1970s so I remember. Brady had a strong arm and had decent ability to read defenses, but he didn't have that "presence" until New England. Even in his first start you could see the presence. My only guess is because Belichick was incorporating Spread Principles into his offense, even then, and that suited Tom - gave him a confidence. Michigan was the old school Pro Power / Gillman Pass type of Offense. The ball was in his hands longer in that offense.

Brady wasn't lighting up the league in 2001. The offense was ball control, safe passes, and rushing attack with the defense carrying the team as it did in this game. Brady may have been relegated to backup after the season if the Tuck Rule went the other way in the playoffs. Bledsoe played in the AFC Championship, but Brady played in the Super Bowl and won. They had lucky wins throughout the season and playoffs coming into the Super Bowl, and even then, they were picked to lose by 2 touchdowns. They came out as a team during introductions, breaking tradition, and won the Super Bowl as a team. Brady didn't start changing the narrative until 2-3 years later when he won another 2 SB's. They thought this was a miraculous, fluke season. People were split as to keep Bledsoe or Brady after 2001.

They were a good team, but not yet elite. Manning still had wtf games every now and then, like this one, where he'd throw a bunch of INT's, but those games were becoming less and less frequent. You really don't know what you're talking about if you think the 2001 Colts were a dynasty. The Ravens and Rams were the closest things to dynasties the league had at that time.

I remember this game and the game Drew Bledsoe went down. The game Drew went down was my first time watching football as a college freshman just to kill the time. The Pats look lifeless. There wasn't much enthusiasm from the fans in the stand. The atmosphere was even grimmer the moment Bledsoe got hurt. But then Tom Brady stepped onto the football field. I didn't know what it was. Was it the team trying to encourage the newbie? Was it the fans trying to do the same thing? But I can feel the energy coming from everyone. I can see and feel the enthusiasm as if everyone can feel something great is about to begin. Since then I became Tom Brady's fan first; then I became the Patriots' fan second; then I became a fan of football. That is what Tom Brady brings to the Patriots. He brings hope. He gives us a sense that we are going to win no matter the difficulty. It is always a treat to be his fan because he never gives us that sense of despair. Back then no one was giving the Pats a chance or respect whatsoever.

After a practice that spring of 2001, the quarterback coach, Dick Rehbein, went home, looked at his wife, and said, "Tom Brady might be the next Joe Montana." And his wife said, "what?" Rehbein shook his head, and said, "some day everyone will know who he is." I don't know what happened at practice that day. But it clearly shook Rehbein to his core. I love Tom Brady's story and watching this made it even cooler. Where the colts defense was Freeney, Mathis and Bob Sanders if he was healthy, they relied on getting a lead with that offense and letting those defensive ends pin their ears back but we saw on many occasions that getting a good lead on that Pat's defense wasn't easy to do

Patriots are one of the most penalized teams in NFL history, the refs cost the Pats super bowl 52 with that bs Zach Ertz call, and in the 2016 AFC Championship against the broncos the refs cost that game. Not to mention in the super bowl in which the Patriots were 18-0 against the Giants in like 2007 two of the offensive lineman were illegally holding which cost the game because it allowed Eli Manning to escape.

Just came back and watched this. Brady was more of a game manager then. He was very comfortable. The defense was awesome! Mac Jones looks very comfortable too. I am not saying Mac is Brady,but Mac does look very similar to how Brady was then. Mostly short accurate throws that move the chains. The big difference is that the Patriots defense isn’t near as good now,and the running game isn’t either.

That was a very good, opportunistic defense the Patriots had that year. Great mix of guys drafted by Bill Parcells, and players brought over from Cleveland by Bill Belichick. Then there's that Brady guy. He didn't have great stats in this game, but in the game two weeks later against San Diego, it was his clutch throws that led to a comeback win in OT.

I was at Gillette Stadium for the first time October 13, 2002 and the CMGI signs were still up on the outside of the stadium, as well as the bags from the Pro Shop. We lost 28-10 to the Packers and Brady threw 3 INTs. People were booing him and saying he sucks as they walked out early. We moved down to the lower level seats in the front row. I wonder where those lame ass fans are today.

I remember as a Pats fan, many fans couldn’t really believe this backup Brady was winning. For a little while there was a feeling he was just getting lucky, but we needed Bledsoe to get healthy and get back in. And even though Brady kept winning, a few weeks later when Bledsoe was healthy again fans seemed split about 50/50 whether Brady should remain the starter. But then Brady went on a huge win streak in the 2nd half of the season and no one was talking about Bledsoe anymore

But, First time I"ve seen this much of the first game he started...(I was in grad school working all that Sunday..saw highlights on primetime) and what immediately stands out was the pocket presence. Basically his superpower along with accuracy and leadership. Damn...how in the fuck did we let him get away.
