What Does America’s Coronavirus Response Look Like Abroad? | NYT Opinion

The United States leads the world in Covid-19 deaths, nearing 150,000 lost lives. The unemployment figures brought on by the pandemic are mind-boggling. The Trump administration’s slow and haphazard response has been widely criticized. But what does it look like to young people around the world, whose governments moved quickly and aggressively to contain the coronavirus?
We wanted to know, so we reached out to quite a few and showed them charts, facts, photos and videos illustrating the U.S. response. Spoiler: They were not impressed.
Many advanced economies, from Germany to Singapore, directly supplemented salaries to save jobs. Other nations with fewer resources started mass testing at the first sign of an outbreak. Many countries mandated universal lockdowns - and successfully flattened the curve. In some parts of Europe, you could be fined for straying too far from your home. And Vietnam, a nation of 95 million people, has not seen a single Covid-19 death.
This Opinion video is a follow-up to a popular video we produced last year, which asked young Europeans to respond to American policies such as health care and parental leave. Many comments suggested we produce a sequel. Well, here it is - the Covid-19 edition.

Simply PROPAGANDA and no doubt it would have been equally at home in 1930s GERMANY. And you call yourselves liberals ??? I'd call it a SMOKE SCREEN for FASCISM. America has a 5th COLUMN within and they are a Real and Present Danger to your Freedoms. To clarify .. FASCISM as used here. It is the BEHAVIOUR and INTENT that defines any ideology: NOT the pretty label they hide behind, albeit in this case LIBERALS. You are witnessing all the hall marks of FASCISM being practiced.

Plus my grandparents are also smart enough to take necessary precautions against the virus to stay in and not go out in public like every day. The people that have are not following guidelines. And many do care, but can't figure out what to do in order to penetrate the wall of obstruction surrounding the Trump Administration. As Trump sees his poll numbers beginning to suggest that he has no path to victory in November .. short of martial law, theft, voter suppression, etc. ... he grows steadily more desperate and dysfunctional. I believe that the answer lies in a wholesale restructuring of our political system that would end political contributions from anyone who does not live in the district in which a candidate is running. No more PACS, Corporative contributions, etc. Make our politicians accountable to their future/present human constituents, and let's see what kind of government we can create. And construct/mandate an electoral system in which public servants come to believe that their tenure in office depends upon our opinion of the job they're doing. Make them believe that our well being, and their career, are inextricably entwined. In short, make it clear that we want nothing less than Representative Democracy.

She is tearing up because people's health should not be political. (US) 180,000 people died from covid in less than a year. That's 3 times more than the flu kills in an entire year. When we move to a different country, we call ourselves expats, we do it for whatever reason. @@georgeoust I know I'm late, but I still want to answer. I don't know if Biden will be able to live up to Obama. Even if he wanted to pass laws that could make a huge difference in the way the country works, the people are so polarized that nothing will be done. So, I don't know if Biden could do as well as Obama did. But I do believe, due to the Democrats taking the majority of the Senate and the House of Representatives, that the government might work slightly more in Biden's favor. And when the 2022 Senate and House elections come, I hope that there will be more Democrats, or maybe open-minded Republicans, voted in that will help tip the scales and help enact more effective laws.

Things like UV were validated as real and are being installed into offices as we speak, even the internal treatment existed, but the left had to as always deliberately misinterpret things to try to make a point. The malevolent psychology of the left was underlined by the fact that the case where the couple that claimed they were poisoned by "aquarium cleaner" were revealed as not just democrats, but "science is cool" democrats with full TDS, the wife took advantage of the situation trying to pass off murdering her husband by blaming it on the orange man. Along with the riots and false accusations we've seen which are endless, the left are proving just how immoral and irresponsible they are. @Rohan Grin no it is not. Masks do NOT stop the virus from entering you, they stop your viruses from coming out. If you are wearing a mask but the other person doesn't, you are still getting infected. Wearing the mask has to be done by everyone. Think about the one person you see. If that was the only person not wearing mask, which wouldn't be that bad, what are the chances of you seeing him in the exact same shop you buy from at that exact same time? Very few. For you to encounter a person without a mask every time you go to town, there has to be enough people not wearing masks for the probabiblities to work the way they are doing. Now, think of all the negationists in America. Think about how an infected negationist spreads the virus to, let's say, 20 people around him. What are the chances of all those 20 to not meet anyone while not wearing a mask for the next month? Very few. Each of those 20 will spread thr virus to some other 5 people (that is, if each of those 20 wears a mask religiously), and those 5 to some other 5 each (again, if they wear masks). Do you see how the virus moves? In just three steps, 500 people have gotten infected. Knowing this, calculate what are the chances of someone around you getting infected, and multiply that by 10 for every maskless person you AND they encounter. See where I am going?

The only good news is give us 10-15 years from now, a bunch of really bright kids who lost loved ones to COVID-19, and see Dr. Fauci as a role model, might actually help save the world from a nasty pandemic like SARS or MERS almost became. SARS would have created a small pox level world recession, and MERS would have been a Bubonic Plague level event, taking generations to recover. what's the alternative? the US doesn't just use that military to protect its self but many other countries that need our support. The military spending is one of the more selfless things this nation does with its money.
