@@nverend4450 It’s very rewarding because you are looked at as consultant for the business regarding the technology that they leverage. There are IT BA certifications that you can acquire along with a PMP certification that will help get you in the door. Sharpen up your communication skills by learning “business language” and “IT language” as well. This will allow you to be the liaison between the business and IT or vice versa.

Thanks for the video. I've worked in a techincal role over the past 5 - 6 years in IT. Over the past year I have transistioned into a service / client management position. I'm now trying to layout my options and align a chosen path with my best interests. Naturally I gravitate towards working with clients, understanding their needs, and looking for solutions which maximise business value. I appreciate this. I've been applying to a bunch of jobs, and I had forgotten about this role until I received a call to interview lol. Needed to figure out exactly what it was. I work as a SysAdmin right now, but I've been put into an informal project management role, which I've been somewhat enjoying. Recently I've decided that after about 7 years in IT I want to transition to a 'non-technical' role perhaps towards management, or Project Management; I've been getting kind of tired of being the guy pushing buttons. In your experience, does this seem like a good transition or stepping stone into the management side? Or should I try to head over into a more "supervisory" role such as a Senior SysAdmin (I have interviews for both, and this is assuming best case scenario that I receive both offers)?

Just from my own experience, a technically versed project manager can be such an asset. I have had to work with too many non-technical project managers that slowed everything down because they did not understand the technology and IT enough. So, definitely an option. I moved into management and my technical background makes a big difference in certain roles. In others I am probably missing some business and strategy knowledge which can limit how far I get.

I probably do not have enough information for your specific situation, but I would see it as a good move to go after a BA role. But do yourself a favor and compare the two roles and also map out where to go from there so that you have a rough idea where to take your IT career.

Good software engineers in the US can easily make $150K-$300K per year. IT Business Analysts will not go as high. Low to mid $100K range. You want to enjoy your work or be able to do a job long enough that you reach a financial goal before doing something different.

It is not a bad move, but you should really map out a career plan to make sure it fits with your overall goals. Front-end developer to business analyst is a significant change. What is your end-game plan? Very different income opportunities as well.

You want to look for courses on business data analytics, potentially some agile courses as well as there seems to be a matching trend to marry the two together. The main key item is data analytics and how to can bridge it to information technology. Most professional level certifications require a masters or a lot of work experience. You may have to settle for a different path. I am not even sure if the certifications would help that much initially.
