Wow! Brings back so many awesome memories of my Brand new 1992 toyota truck in metallic grey, extra-cab 4X4 5spd. Owned it for 14 years. Loved that truck. Only issues were the well known head gaskets. They went twice. Once while under warranty and once out of warranty. Toyota covered both repairs. Other than that we traveled and explored everywhere with that truck. Even towed a 13’ travel trailer from Van BC to Alaska and back. That Truck never broke down or left me stranded. Sadly had to sell it because we could not fit a baby seat in the back. Could not believe how much we got for it back then. Still had the original clutch. Staring a family we couldn’t afford to keep it and opted to buy a more family friendly vehicle. Couldn’t afford a brand new 2006 4dr Tacoma at that time so we opted for a lease return 2003 Pathfinder. We are now happily in a brand new 2020 TRD sport 4X4 DCLB. Great to be in a Toyota Truck again. You are very talented and have done a great job on that 90. Keep up the good work!

If you are going 3.0 to 3.4 you don't need to buy the rear sump pan. The 3.0 pan and pickup bolts on and clears the diff. For those looking to save a few bucks on your swap! Something missed in the video for 3.4 swap is the crossover pipe, on the IFS Pickups and 4Runners it needs to drop on the driver side to clear the driveshaft, some 3.4s come with one that can be cut up, flipped and welded back together so it drops on the driver side., otherwise you can buy a pre build crossover that drops on the correct side. I also 100% recommend this swap, so easy to do with any level of experience wrenching!
@austinniemela
@austinniemela 3 жыл бұрын
Ah yeah I forgot about the crossover pipe! That’s not really a cost if you can modify the oem pipe like I did!!

I have a 91 4runner that I have done a straight axle swap on it with a 4 inch leaf spring lift. I have moderate experience as far as working on engines but a motor swap seems intimidating to me. I have always dreamed about doing this motor swap on my 3.slow (240k miles) for over 15 years. Any advice on where to find an engine or where to start?

Very nice! Love it, my truck is very similar. Almost exactly the same, it cost around 6.5k for my 3.4l swap 89 pickup. I saved some money merging my 3.0 and 3.4 harnesses, and spent that on rebuilding the axles, and going through the motor and tranny,

I'm commenting through my dad's account-- First thing is that even though no one is paying you for your time it is still worth something. Your time and labor are *never* free. It costs you something. That's the plain economics of it. Though I understand just doing a itemized list of parts keeps it simpler for viewers. Secondly, I bought an '89 4cyl 4-speed 2 door long bed in November in decent shape for $4000. It has it's quirks and foibles no doubt. In january on an icy road I tipped it on it's side and buggered up the bed corner, driver door, and driver rocker. In July the parking brake went and it rolled into a huge Hemlock, pushing in the passenger door. Your videos give me a lot of hope, so I'm removing the bed to put a flatbed on it and I'm trying to fix/repair what I can. It will be miles away from a resto-mod like yours, but I'm hoping to salvage a decent hard working truck that has a lot of culture and history behind it. I do fear that the scarcity of some replacement parts and the extent of the work may sooner or later put the kaibash on finishing it, but nothing worth having comes without some kind of fight. Maybe I'll be getting a professional resto-mod like yours someday; here's hoping.
