I want to also let everyone know there are tools like truckscience. Someone can setup a weight distribution in less than 30 minutes that gets you in the ballpark. The manufacturers (palfinger) have the software. Your reputable up-fitters have tools like this. If you are buying a truck tell them to give you a weight distribution when you sign the paperwork. The difference in mounting a hook 10 inches off can be the difference in 1000lbs of payload.
@samedaydumpster Жыл бұрын
Yes! I've covered this in a previous video about the importance of using a reputable and experienced up fitter. There's so much that goes into building these trucks properly to perform as you need them to. Great suggestion. Thanks for sharing with everyone.

Our triaxles are 73280 gvw, but they're spec'ed to 86k with 20k front, 20k drop, and 46k rears. The hooks are T60, but if we were to ever pick up 30 tons (capacity) we'd be way over legal. It's still great to not work the equipment to it's limit. Saves wear and tear on the equipment. As far as under cdl, our new Pete 220 was 15160 with a 6'3" driver in the cab. We've crossed the scale once at 26060 and again at 26080 and both times the driver said that the 33k chassis handled light it was nothing. You can never go wrong overbuilt imo. Lastly, in PA, to my knowledge, no longer allows registration changes like you discussed for Utah, but they definitely once did.
@samedaydumpster Жыл бұрын
I know there are some states that don't allow the increased registration weight. So Thanks for letting everyone watching know that PA is one of those states. As always, I appreciate you sharing your knowledge.

Thanks for taking the time to put this information out there. Definitely not an option for someone wanting to stay under CDL, but I see you forward thinking. Does not take much to go over 3 tons on a C&D project in a 20 yard. Most of my 20's are under 3 tons, but every now and then you get some guys that load them with drywall and no air gaps or they get rained on. Definitely would not work with my 27 yrds. I include up to 3 tons on those. If I ever went to a truck, I would consider an Isuzu FVR. 10,500lb Curb weight(no hoist) with 33,000lb GVWR. Plus killer turning radius with the COE.
@samedaydumpster Жыл бұрын
You bring up some very valid points for sure. As mentioned in this video, this truck purchase is to help me make moves in the future when I decide its right for me. As far as any truck, I tell everyone to buy the brand of truck regardless of what it is, where you have the best dealer support for parts and service. If you can get the best parts and service from Isuzu... buy an Isuzu. If you get the best parts and service from Peterbilt, buy a Peterbilt. Thanks for the contribution, some very valid points.

John that was Great! I love it. You are direct, throw it in your face!🤣 Great information!! I had an inkling what you might be thinking when you released the first Pete shop build video. To get a head you have to think forward of the possibilities and put yourself in the right position(without breaking the bank). I have always over built my trucks so I feel safe and comfortable getting the job done, and not destroying them at the same time. My trucks never break due to weight issues. I saw the excitement in you when you where in Las Vegas at the “aircraft carrier”. I’ve viewed most of your videos and podcasts multiple times and read up on your history, you are a smart man and don’t like surprises. Nether do I. Keep up the great content. 🇺🇸😎

Thank You Keith. I don't like surprises of any type! You can write that down and underline it twice. Everyone can have their own unique way of being successful in this business and my approach is no different. I have found a formula that has worked well for me in trucking and I stick to it. Doesn't matter if you're hauling 250K lbs loads or 3K lbs loads, having a well thought out and well run way to execute that plan with consistency is key. Thanks for watching.

Tha ns for sharing this info. I've been doing research in single axle hook lift trucks for some time now and it's been a challenge to find these numbers. If you have the opportunity, somewhere things I'd like to know are weight of truck plus a flat bed and the deck height of thay flat bed when it's on the truck. Looking forward to the door tag video as well.
@samedaydumpster Жыл бұрын
I can tell you that my flatbed you've seen in other videos weighs exactly 2,440lbs. So if I add that weight to this Peterbilt 16,700 + 2,440 = 16,944. Not sure of the exact deck height, but I can post that help in the next day or so. Thanks for the support of the channel my friend.

One important distinction that your under CDL viewers may not have grasped the concept is air brakes. Basically once you cross that threshold of air brakes is where class B straight truck CDL world begins( not combination). For trucks large enough and heavy enough to be pushing the envelope of 26,000 gross which will start to stress and strain at that point and may not have the stopping distance in intersections which smaller lighter trucks might enjoy for safety.

Of course, you know where all the dot scales are located and how to go around them, and when they are open, and which truck to send when you have to cross the scales. Just be glad you don't have to run logs.
@samedaydumpster Жыл бұрын
These are some of the reasons I am purposefully running my show under CDL currently. I'm trying to keep things as simple as possible. We do 99% of our running within the city limits and there's no scales inside our city, they are all outside the city on the freeways. But... we know what we can legally haul and we stay within our limits. Again... I like to keep this game as simple as possible.

You have a CDL, your truck can haul more, why not just register it higher? You said to keep it simple, can you do a video or elaborate on what that means and what else is involved when you choose to run a truck rated over 26k? Logs, insurance cost, employee w/CDL? Great videos, I appreciate the time, effort, and info...thank you

Yes... I'm def going to expand on this with another video or two as so many guys are asking very specific questions. I'll answer why I don't go over cdl and just register it for more weight right now. If I do that... there's several guys I work with daily that wouldn't be able to drive my truck and help me out which we do on a very regular basis. So for now... I'm staying under cdl. I’m going to do the research and see if this works in my state. I only know of maybe one or two of the motor carrier folks that would likely actually know so I’m going to start looking on my own first. What are some keywords you think I should be looking for as far as finding statutes regarding registering higher than derated GVWR or rescinding a derated GVWR back to OEM spec?

Visit your local commercial licensing division. Walk in the door and ask them if it's possible. It should be very easy to get answered. Thanks for watching, best of luck.

Thanks for another informative video. What is the length of that 22 yard can you have on? It seems like I recall you leaning towards 16' cans, standard rail with a 54" hook. I'm not sure about all states but it seems like a lot will allow a 2' overhang on the back. I'm curious if you are thinking about going for heavier CDL loads in the future should you get a longer tuck to haul larger/ longer dumpsters? Have you had anyone complain about the high sidewalls on the shorter dumpsters that is necessary to get the capacity in a shorter can? In contrast to a longer can with lower sides it is easier for them to throw stuff in. Maybe it's not a big deal, just something I've been thinking about. Take care.

Really appreciate your video. On this truck that can take another 9000 - 10000 lbs without exceeding CDL, why have a 20,000 hook? Even if you step up to CDL, is the hoist still over spec'd?
@samedaydumpster3 ай бұрын
Great question. It's pretty simple... the cost of going with a bigger hoist over a smaller hoist is very minimal. I like to take more "gun to the fight" than needed. It's simple, dumpsters get stuck in snow, mud, ice and just about anything else that will bury your dumpsters down. Having a larger hook never hurts you and the weight is quite minimal in the over all picture.

couple questions #1 Tell me how you derate a truck that is born 26,000 lbs from factor peterbilt 536 is a class 6 truck a 537 on the other hand is a class 7 which is born from factory being 33,000 lbs truck #2 3 tons you can legally carry but not you or the customer can justify that every bin you pickup will be 3ton or under all scenarios apply snow,rain so basically you’d be over loaded most times unless your weighing the bins on site before you pick them up
@samedaydumpster3 ай бұрын
1. You don't derate an under 26,000Lbs truck like a Peterbilt 536, it comes from the factory already under cdl. A Peterbilt 537 comes from the factory as a 33,000lbs truck. You can't "derate" after they leave the factory. Isuzu is the only manufacturer that can and will allow derates after it leaves the factory. We have plenty of work in the "legal payload" area. Not everyone needs to run over cdl to be successful my friend. And not everyone runs "overweight". Professionalism and accountability are still very much alive and how a lot of successful businesses operate. Thanks for checking out the channel.
