I was in the Marines before the Spirit got ahold of me in 2020. When I became a Christian and heard we were supposed to be "meek" (even more so as a woman), I wasn't sure I could do it. I'm sure I'm not alone in thinking that. Thank you for educating us on these key words. Stripping away our modern understand of words and phrases has helped me understand the Bible so much better.

I like Jordan Peterson’s take on meekness “A good man is not a harmless man. A good man is a very dangerous man who has that under voluntary control”

Came here looking for the dictionary definition but fortunately ended up listening to gospel ❤

Absolutely correct sir. This misunderstanding I feel, is why our Christian society as been weakened enough that the current lgbtq infection and other evils has been allowed to thrive.

Chad, while studying for a class I was teaching, one commentator said this, "meekness describes a man who has perfect control of everything in his nature; and the exercise of it is first toward God. He accepts God's dealings with him as good and just, he does not dispute or resist."

I am personally tired of people saying "Christians are weak, and so is their God!" Yeah, they clearly do not know what the word "meek" actually means! When we are God -dependent, we are God-empowered!

I also did a bit of research in relation to meek a while ago, as the definition wasn't clear and stumbled across the description "strength under control" and the example was a powerful wild horse brought under control by training, so that even a child could lead it.

That sounds familiar! Was that from the Bible Project Podcast?

No I don't recall it being from Bible Project (even though they probably would have covered it), it was just from a Christian website on Google. The Greek word 'praus' has quite a rich meaning which unfortunately doesn't quite come across in English.

Great strength controlled by great wisdom, that is what meek is. When Jesus allowed the Roman soldiers to take Him, that was meek.

Power under control -that's what meek is.

but that automatically throws out all the showmanship, the display of grandeur out of the equation - from which the flesh usually screams. God help us!

Brother Chad, Moses was brave and stout, but defiant, and neither meek nor humble describe him. In Deuteronomy 32:51-52 God gives the reason that Moses was not permitted to enter the Promised Land: “This is because . . . you broke faith with me in the presence of the Israelites at the waters of Meribah Kadesh in the Desert of Zin and because you did not uphold my holiness among the Israelites. Therefore, you will see the land only from a distance; you will not enter the land I am giving to the people of Israel.” If the meek inherit the Earth, Moses was disqualified. He was punished for being the opposite of meek.

Wellllllll, Moses got I to the Holy Land at the transfiguration, tho.
@paulsmodels Жыл бұрын
Nope. That's not why he was "punished" as you say. He was not allowed to go into the promised land with the people because of what he did at the rock in the wilderness, AND...God wanted Joshua to lead the people further and not Moses. Man, you need to get your Bible facts right.
