@@malindavanhoy3688 There is much more to this than the above. The key to understanding death and the Grave (Greek hades) There is no such thing as an immortal soul or spirit. If such were so then it would negate the need for a resurrection. That would mean death would be an immediate entry to another room would it not? Here is what Jesus and Paul said John 11:11, 14. After that he saith unto them "Lazarus SLEEPETH, but I go that I may awake him out of sleep. V14 "Then Jesus said unto them plainly Lazarus is dead" KJV. Mark 5:35 ....." some men came from the synagogue and said "your daughter has died, why bother the teacher anymore?" V39 And when he had entered in he saith unto them "Why are you weeping? The child is not dead but SLEEPETH They all laughed ,then he resurrected her Paul 1 Thess 4:13--15 V13 KJV...."concerning those who are SLEEPING in death........ V14 For if if our faith is that Jesus died and rose again, so, too those who have FALLEN ASLEEP in Jesus will God will bring too. V15 .... that we the living who survive to the coming of the Lord shall not prevent (precede) them which are ASLEEP.. Thus the immortal soul teaching is the second greatest religious lie in Christendom

@@exzydian5294 .. you obviously don't read the bible for answers! Many bible students know that disobedient angels once had access to the heavens - the account in Job chapter 1, from verse 6 shows that even Satan walked into an assembly of angels stationed before God and was asked where he had been. He answered "From roving about on the earth and walking about in it" - during the time of Noah, Satan managed to deceive even angels in heaven to go down to the earth and materialise human form to have sex relations with women - Genesis 6. The hybrid offspring that resulted from these immoral relationships led to the increase in violence on the earth, which brought God's judgement when the flood came on that wicked generation. Those demonic angels were not allowed back into heaven - the book of Jude describes them as being constrained in 'dense darkness, awaiting judgement'. Since those times Satan has yet gained a following of demonic angels which were eventually ousted from heaven, as described in Revelation 12:7-12 War broke out in heaven when Michael the Archangel (the resurrected Jesus Christ) stood up with authority as ruler of God's kingdom and cleansed the heavens - Satan and his demons were hurled down to the earth, hence, the bible warns 'woe for the earth' meaning the beginning of 'critical times, such as wars, earthquakes, disease and food shortages - also increase in crime and lawlessness' just as Jesus had foretold. The bible shows that these 'last days' will come to an end when the global preaching of 'the good news of the Kingdom' is fully accomplished to God's satisfaction. Wicked people who do not change will be destroyed and the righteous will remain to take possession of a 'new' earth, free from violence, political turmoil and wars - it will be a new beginning for obedient humankind who have chosen to live by God's rules. God made everything. He is not bound by our time and space. I say that when we take our last breath, we immediately take our next breath in the presence of the Lord. What do I mean? Well we are body-soul persons. Why do we need to imagine a intermediate state for a soul that exists without a body? Our entire persons are upheld and sustained by God. Since we are imagining, wouldn't it be simpler to say that even though in the timeline of the world, our body may turn to dust. Yet on that great Day of the Lord, we will rise together to be with Him forever. From the person who is "sleeping" perspective, his eyes blink closed in this life, and then opens in the next moment to a resurrected, glorified body, risen to meet our Savior, Jesus Christ!
@hoosierhyperwatch58844 жыл бұрын
That's how I believe it to be. Here, we are bound by the "space and time continuum" but in eternity, no one is bound by any of that. We blink and wake up with our Lord. HE'S already there!! He's bound by nothing. Outside of timelines and all that.

There is no such thing as an immortal soul or spirit. Those who say otherwise do not realise they are negating the resurrection hope which is always spoken of as a FUTURE occurence. Bible says the dead know nothing and in this age are no better off than the beasts, Eccl 3:19, 9:5,10. Paul and Jesus say the dead are ASLEEP. Mark 5:35,39, John 11:11,14, 1 Thess 4:13--15. There are many however that will be dead forever, no resurrection for them , That is what the "Lake of fire" means; "the second death". that judgment does not mean any conscious torment. In the days of the apostles jailers were viewed as tormentors. Luke 8:28, Luke 8:31. Thus this adverse judgment means one is locked up in death forever.

That may be true but that isn't what this verse says. If you believe that because you've actually read it then great, there are passages that seem to suggest that and many which say that we sleep until the day of resurrection. It's important that you read for yourself though and don't trust false teachers like these. 2 Corinthians 5:8 doesn't say "To be absent from the body IS to be present with the Lord". John 3:13 exclaims NO ONE has ascended up into heaven except the One who came down from heaven. These Scriptures matter and they matter greatly! The grave is not the end for us but (mostly) ALL FLESH will go that way; however, new life begins again at the Resurrection - the Coming of the Lord! when i engage in talk concerning Jesus and the bible, I always ask myself, "is this topic a salvation issue?" I believe the ministers have good intentions regarding this topic. Perhaps during these past three years they have discovered a better truth. Folks who take this position (we go immediately in the presence of Jesus upon death) will use "to be absent in the body is to be present in the Lord". They will also use "I tell you this day, you shall be with me in paradise". I believe every word of the bible, but I have learned to take it in its proper context. Without diving too deeply, i will simply switch focus on a few characters mentioned in the bible. Enoch, Moses, Elijah are now in heaven as suggested by the bible (and of course Jesus). Other than Jesus, why these three? Are they more important than, say Paul or Isaiah or Jeremiah or Peter? Why not Elisha? The ministers will suggest that these folks are also in heaven with Jesus but the bible clearly make a distinction of who is currently in heaven. The book of revelation mentions 24 leaders (or is it elders?). It i suggested that the folks that came out of the grave during the resurrection of Jesus that they are in heaven. We know the heavenly hosts are there, but they were created to be there. Then there's the folks meeting Christ in the air (those who are dead in Christ will be awakened...). How does the ministers reconcile this? Do those in heaven leave heaven to get into grave and enter their bodies? I do not believe that a Christian who believes like the ministers teach is in trouble for not making it to heave. I do believe that the who are learning about Jesus find this idea confusing. The bible has more evidence that when we die we do not ascend into heaven but we sleep a dreamless sleep until the day of the Lord.

Hi! Wow! After my sister passed away last year in May from cancer, I have so many unanswered questions about death. I’ve been on KZbin, searching for answers, and of course in a biblical way! I want to believe my sisters is with Jesus immediately like the thief on the cross with him. Your point of the three profits that didn’t die, but went straight to heaven I get that too as well. And there are parts in the Bible that states that when we die, we turn back to dust and we’re in a state of unconsciousness. This is very contradictory to where the Bible or part of the Bible states that when we die, we go into the presence of God. So I’m not sure we go into the presence of God, or we turned back into dust. I’m very confused and I’m still learning. As you stated, no one has came back from the dead to really tell us or provided proof so all I could do is have faith and believe that when we die, we’re going into the presence of the Lord.??? And I read, a part in the book of Isiah, that once you die, you cannot cross over because of the chasm. There is a part in the Bible talks about the rich man and the poor man Lazarus. The poor man is in heaven immediately with Abraham, but the rich man is in hell.!! so does that mean when we die we go to heaven and we meet amazing prophets like Abraham or . Moses Etc?? 🙏🙏🙏🙏

@@Nuevachica Greetings Nuevachica. Firstly let me say that I am sorrowful for hearing about the loss of your sister. I lost a cousin from cancer. I have two sisters dealing with cancer presently. I have a coworker and a church member dealing with this disease. When I think about Christ and heaven, I have learned to sift through all the arguments both for and against being in heaven immediately upon death.I take this position because I do not believe it is a salvation issue-although it may actually BE a salvation issue. Let me explain. Acts 17:30-31 talks about "God winking towards ignorance...then calling men to repentance". Here Paul is saying, 'Hey followers of Christ, at one time you knew not, and at that time God did not count it against you, but now that you know...repent' I am paraphrasing of course but I think you get my meaning. I used to believe the idea of fols vanishing suddenly...clothes neatly folded at their last known location. Had I died during that mindset and have accepted Jesus, I believe I would have been in heaven eventually. My point is this: it does not matter the particulars of ones faith concerning this specific subject. It only matters that one has accepted Jesus as their savior. Let Jesus do the rest. Scholars have studied and continue to study God's word. Some say good works are involved along with Jesus. Others say it's all about Jesus and no works can get you into heaven. Still others espouse that once saved, always saved. Even in Jesus day, the leaders argued as to how to be closer to God. For me, i have deduced through study and relationships that it's about the finished works of Christ. His blueprint regarding salvation is in the sanctuary. Study the sanctuary and you will get a clear roadmap of how we are justified, sanctified, and eventually glorified. So, should you be concerned whether your sister is in heaven right now? The more important question is: while she was with you on this earth, did she have a relationship with the risen savior? Did she give her life to Jesus? If so, I believe we who are in Christ will see her again. Regarding Abraham's bosom...this analogy was used to show that the people who placed their faith in their wealth will be the least. Keep the faith my sister.

Brother no disrespect but Islam is a false teaching we do not believe in the same Jesus nor the same God. Your version of God is completely different from my Christian version of God I beg you brother to turn from Islam and come to Christ and put your faith in him as he is a free gift of God. I cannot have a understanding of other religions because they are all false. Every religion claims you must have good deeds to enter into the afterlife if everyone has done good deeds to overthrow their bad deeds then how will the bad deeds be punished? Christianity is the only true "religion" because no one is good besides the Father, no amount of good deeds can get a person into heaven because everyone deserves punishment to pay for their debt "sin". That's why Christ was that atonement for sin he paid the full price of everyone's sin so they can be right with God. 1 John 1:9 "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness", 1 Timothy 1:15 "The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am foremost", 1 Corinthians 15: 3-4 " Christ died for our sins in accordance with scripture, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance to scripture." Here are some of the flaws of Islam: 1. Allah has many names and one of them he is called a "deceiver" (meaning liar). The God of the bible is not a God of lies nor confusion, the God of the bible is the same as yesterday, today, tomorrow, and forever. 2. Allah commends his followers to beat their wives and to slay unbelievers if they do not follow Allah. The God of the bible tells men to love and cherish their wives and to honor them as well. Plus the God of the bible does not tell us to murder unjustly or to slay anyone who doesn't believe in God. 3. The Qur'an says that Jesus was never crucified that a look alike was crucified and that also plays into Allah being a "deceiver". The God in the bible talks of Jesus dying on the cross for the whole world in the New Testament and Old. 4. Muhammad was unsure if he will go to heaven or not. That is suppose to be the standing rock of Islam Muhammad the prophet the only person in the Qur'an who ascended into heaven supposedly is Jesus. The God of the bible stands firm on his word and doesn't change that anyone who accepts Jesus Christ as their lord and savior is saved and will spend eternity with God and here are a few scriptures that tells that a true believer in Jesus Christ will for sure enter the kingdom of God. John 5:24 "Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgement, but has passed from death to life". 5. The Qur'an says to believe in the Torah and Nigel but many proclaimed muslims don't believe in the Torah or Nigel that is because if you were to read the Torah and Nigel no mention of Islam or Muhammad would be mentioned. Once again brother I am in no disrespect to you I just want you to know the real God is and I plead with brother. Look into Nabeel Qureshi who was a muslim convert to Christianity. Also please, please, please take free time to look into a KZbin channel - Your Living Manna Testimony. They are people from all world view religions converting to Christianity I mean every religion even atheism. Also look into a Canadian street preacher named David Lynn KZbin channel - Christforgiveness watch him debate with muslims on the streets of Canada and please pay attention to the tone of language the Christian preachers is putting out and the muslims. A dead person is outside of time. When Jesus told the thief " today you will be with me in paradise" He didn't even leave for heaven until 43days later. When one dies, you could be asleep for a million years and still wake up and think it has been a blink of an eye. Everyone who dies is asleep awaiting the coming of the King. And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment. Hebrews 9:27 “For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first” 1 Thessalonians 4:16 Jesus said, “Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice and come forth-those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation” John 5:28,-29 Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also” John 14:1-3 The dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it” Ecclesiastes 12:7 When the thief on the cross is resurrected to life, it will seem like a moment to him and indeed that very day he will be with the Christ. This is what I believe but do stand under correction.

The misunderstanding is in verse 15. The Greek interlinear translation uses the word "Presence" (Greek parou'sia). The selection of those that would rule with Christ in the Kingdom began when Christianity was established in the 1st century. It would continue down to the time we're currently living in.(Matt.24:3-14) When Jesus' presence began, those that were "dead in Christ would "rise first". (those that had died over that 2000 years;1st Cor.15:51,52) Anyone of the "anointed" that are alive, after and during his presence, wouldn't precede them. (verse 17)

@Gav Duncanson , you are absolutely correct! Awaiting the New Body - Corinthians Chapter 5: For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands. 2 Meanwhile we groan, longing to be clothed instead with our heavenly dwelling, 3 because when we are clothed, we will not be found naked. 4 For while we are in this tent, we groan and are burdened, because we do not wish to be unclothed but to be clothed instead with our heavenly dwelling, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. 5 Now the one who has fashioned us for this very purpose is God, who has given us the Spirit as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come. 6 Therefore we are always confident and know that as long as we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord. 7 For we live by faith, not by sight. 8 We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord. 9 So we make it our goal to please him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it. 10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.

Till the heavens are no more, they will not awake nor be roused from their sleep. … His sons come to honor, and he does not know it; they are brought low, and he does not perceive it” (Job 14:12, 21). “Nevermore will they have a share in anything done under the sun” (Ecclesiastes 9:6).f The dead cannot contact the living, nor do they know what the living are doing. They are dead. Their thoughts have perished (Psalm 146:4 KJV). Your loved ones are not in heaven looking down on us. The wicked are currently not burning in hell but rather they vid are in silence in the grave unaware of the passing of time or remembering anything in this life until Jesus returns. They’re gone but they don’t realize it. There will be two ressurections. The ressurection of the righteous and the ressurection of the wicked. After they died, I comforted myself with the though that, while not here, they are still a "part of it" and are still "here with us". But if you have no consciousness or mind when you die, how will you even know if you are in heaven or hell? What is even the point? If God is going to take people from us, at least have it that we can still "talk with them", "connect with them". I never wanted God to take these peoe away, but He still did, so the least He can do is not take them away spiritually as well.

@@toni4397 Thank you for the recommendation. I watched the video, and I appreciate how he listed the verses that mention death as sleep in the Bible. Like when Jesus says that in John 11:11 that "Lazarus sleeps" but He is going there to "wake him up." Jesus did not say that Lazarus was in heaven or hell. Imagine Jesus saying, "Lazarus is in heaven right now, enjoying communion with God and the holy angels, but don't worry, I'll bring him back here so he can suffer for a few more years before he dies again." Also the gentleman in that video mentioned Luke 23:43 where Jesus is talking to the thief on the cross. It is an interesting text and since there is no punctuation in the original text, it could be read "Surely I say to you today, you will be with me in paradise." meaning Jesus was giving him assurance today, that one day he would be with Jesus in paradise. I take this to be the more accurate interpretation since in John 20:17 Jesus tells Mary not to cling to Him because He had not yet ascended to His Father. How could the thief have been with Jesus in paradise Friday night if He had not yet ascended to the Father on Sunday morning?

When we read the Bible in genesis it is clear that body + spirit = soul.. a living soul... if there is a living soul then there must dead soul... that's why in Ezekiel 18:20-24 it is written that The soul that sinneth, it shall die... Human has a spirit not a soul... that spirit is given by God .. as it is written in Ecclesiastes 12:7 (KJV) Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it. The spirit of man as all other spirit beside God the Father and Lord Jesus Christ can die as the Bible says clearly that only God has immortality.. no other things or creature in the universe has.. even the Satan and demons as well as angels . They have no inherent immortality and can die.. .. Only God the Father and Lord Jesus have... When someone dies his mortal spirit return to God but it will not be conscious.. when the body and spirit separates the consiousness also lost and the person will be like someone who is fallen asleep.. Jesus when encountered death always refered it as sleep. He said to His disciples " Our friend Lazarus sleepeth . when His disciples said : when he sleeps he will do well then Jesus said plainly : Lazarus is dead... Lazarus was inconscious when he died for four days in the grave.. he did not go to heaven but just dead his spirit left him and return to God... this is strengrhened with the fact that Jesus never comforted Mary and Martha by saying that Lazarus ( who Jesus loved) was already in heaven living happily with God the Father and the angels. Both Mary and Martha complained of Jesus late arrival in Betania and in both occasions Jesua just said and convinced them that Lazarus will be raised from the dead. Jesus even moved and troubled when He saw Mary and the crowds weeping on the dead of His friend Lazarus and then wept..Jesus as a full human at that time felt sad and also wept. Jesus would not weep if Lazarus was already in heaven Instead He would comfort them. Another fact is that nowhere in the Bible we found any record of Lazarus sharing his wonderful and happy experience he enjoy in heaven during his four days death. Even when six days later there was a supper made conducted by the family where Jesus and their neighbours attended Lazarus did not tell anything about being in heaven.... He was unaware of anything when he died and put in the grave for four days... Nowb let us look at old Testament... did Israel people believe in going to heaven after someone died? No... they felt a great loss when their leader passed away.. they mourned for many days, sometime 30 days for Aaron, for Moses Abraham the Father of Faithful mourned for his wife Sarah and many more examples. if Israel people had been taught that their leaders would go to heaven when they die, they would not be grieved so hard . instead they would be glad and praise God for taken away their faithful leaders to heaven..

God is omnipresent so, whether we live or die, we are in the presence of the lord. Before we can enter heaven, we have to stand Before God on judgment day. Those whose name is written in the Lamb's book of life, go to heaven. Those not found written will be cast in to the lake of fire and brimstone which is the second death.

Um..the bible says we "sleep" when we are dead- until the second coming.
@TheBibleSays3 жыл бұрын
You are correct. Where do the dead go? They go to the grave, and there they stay - "asleep" in death, knowing nothing - until they are resurrected: ⚫ "And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt." (Daniel 12:2) ⚫ "Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation." (Jesus in John 5:28,29) After your last breath, you go to the earth, your grave, and your "thoughts perish" - your consciousness stops - until you're resurrected. ⚫ "His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish." (Psalm 146:4) While dead, we know nothing: ⚫ "For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten." (Ecclesiastes 9:5) The apostle Paul described the resurrection (at Jesus' return) of "the dead in Christ" - those who "sleep in Jesus" - in 1 Corinthians 15:50-54 and here in 1 Thessalonians 4:13-17: ⚫ "But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord." (1 Thessalonians 4:13-17) Jesus asked the Father to receive his spirit when He was dying . . . does that mean Jesus had a spirit of some sort that continued alive after He died? Do we have an immortal spirit that goes to heaven when we die? No, that idea comes from a misunderstanding of "spirit." In the original Greek text the "spirit" was Jesus' _pneuma_ - His breath - which He asked the Father to receive: ⚫ "And when Jesus had cried out with a loud voice, He said, “Father, ‘into Your hands I commit My spirit.’ ” Having said this, He breathed His last." (Luke 23:46, NKJV). When Stephen was martyred, he did the same: He asked the Lord to receive his spirit - his _pneuma_ - his breath of life (Acts 7:59). Without the "spirit" - the breath of life - the body is dead: ⚫ "For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also." (James 2:26) "Spirit" in that verse is from that same Greek word _pneuma._ The word _pneuma_ is still with us today: we have "pneumatic" - air powered - tools. When God created Adam, He breathed into his nostrils the breath of life (Gen 2:7). Job described his spirit, his breath: ⚫ "All the while my breath is in me, and the spirit of God is in my nostrils;" (Job 27:3) Upon death, that spirit - that *physical breath of life* - goes back to God: ⚫ "Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it." (Ecclesiastes 12:7) Jesus and Stephen were simply asking God to receive back that breath of life. While we are dead our consciousness has stopped. We are unaware, and we do not experience the passage of time. We are "asleep" in death. Paul understood that after his death *_the very next thing he'd know_* would be that he had been resurrected and was rising to meet Jesus (1 Thess 4:16,17). It would *_seem like no time had passed since his last conscious moment at death._* That's why Paul wrote: ⚫ "For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better:" (Philippians 1:23) ⚫ "We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord." (2 Corinthians 5:8) Was Paul a hypocrite, telling the Thessalonians they'd meet Christ after their resurrection -but that he would be with Christ the moment he died? Of course not. Paul hoped for the same resurrection he told the Thessalonians about: ⚫ "That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead." (Philippians 3:10,11)

A question here: The Bible says the dead in Christ will rise first durning the Rapture. the Bible also mentions something to the effect people who have died are asking how long are you going to wait until You judge those who killed us and bring us to Heaven? @TheBibleSays3 жыл бұрын
To be honest I think they are trying to play on the wishful thinking of uninformed viewers. You're right: when we die our consciousness stops and we know nothing until we are resurrected. There are a couple "reasons" for their idea that we meet Jesus immediately upon death. 1.) Luke 23:43 is partly at fault, giving the idea we're in paradise the same day we die. The verse is incorrectly translated: there were no commas in the original texts. Translators added all the commas.The KJV says: ⚫ “And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.” Here’s two translations with no comma directly before or after “today”: ⚫ Jesus replied, “I promise you today you will be with me in paradise.” (FBV, Free Bible Version) ⚫ “Amen, I say to thee to-day that with me thou shalt be in the Garden of Eden.” (F. C. Burkitt, The Curetonian Version of the Four Gospels, Vol. I, Cambridge, Check some other Bibles, you’ll find a comma placed correctly: after “today.” Immediately any suggestion that He was in paradise the same day disappears: ⚫ And Jesus said to him, “Truly, I tell you today, you shall be with Me in paradise.” (The Holy Bible In Its Original Order) ⚫ And יהושע said to him, “Truly, I say to you today, you shall be with Me in paradise.” (The Scriptures 2009) Was Jesus in paradise the same day? No: He was in the tomb, for three days and three nights (Matthew 12:40). Jesus did not even ascend to the Father until after His resurrection. Outside His tomb He spoke to Mary: ⚫ “Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.” (John 20:17) 2.) Some will ask “Didn’t Jesus’ spirit go to the Father when He died? Since His spirit went to the Father, wasn’t His spirit in paradise, even if His body went to the tomb?” By that line of reasoning people jump to the idea their "spirit" goes to heaven immediately upon death. Let’s be clear about what the “spirit” is: it’s the breath of life, the same breath of life God gave Adam. Man became a living soul, a living being, when he received the breath of life - into his body though his nostrils - from God: ⚫ “And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul” (Genesis 2:7) The only thing that floats out of us when we die is the breath of life we’ve received from God. Notice the following verses; the breath of life is the “spirit” of God: ⚫ “All the while my breath is in me, and the spirit of God is in my nostrils;” (Job 27:3) ⚫ “Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.” (Ecclesiastes 12:7, describing death when no longer breathing) ⚫ “His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish.” (Psalm 146:4. At death our breathing stops and our “thoughts perish”: our consciousness stops.) ⚫ “For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.” (James 2:26) “Spirit” in James 2:26 is from the Greek word πνεῦμα “pneuma” defined (in Strong’s Definition) as: a current of air, i.e. breath (blast) or a breeze. (Eg., today we have pneumatic - air powered - tools.) Without breathing, the body dies. ⚫ “And they stoned Stephen, calling upon God, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.” (Acts 7:59) “Spirit” is from the same Greek word πνεῦμα “pneuma.” Stephen was calling on the Lord to receive back the breath of life, not some sort of immortal soul. ⚫ “And when Jesus had cried out with a loud voice, He said, “Father, ‘into Your hands I commit My spirit.’ Having said this, He breathed His last.” (Luke 23:46, NKJV) “Spirit” in this verse is from the same Greek word πνεῦμα “pneuma”; Jesus was returning his breath of life to the Father. “Breathed his last” is from the Greek word ἐκπνέω “ekpneo.” It’s the Greek words ἐκ and πνέω assembled into one new word. “Ek” means out, “pneo” means blow or breathe. Jesus breathed out his last breath and died. Regrettably the KJV renders ἐκπνέω as “gave up the ghost” instead of “breathed his last” in that verse (and in Mark 15:37 and 39): ⚫ “And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost.” (Luke 23:46, KJV) “Ghost” misleads many into wrong conclusions, for example, that Jesus was letting go of an immortal soul. Most other common Bibles render ἐκπνέω as “breathed His last” rather than “gave up the ghost.” Here’s a couple more examples: ⚫ “Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.” When he had said this, he breathed his last.” (NIV) ⚫ “Then Jesus, crying with a loud voice, said, “Father, into thy hands I commit my spirit!” And having said this he breathed his last.” (RSV) Jesus was not somehow in paradise the same day He died. When He gave His spirit to the Father, He was returning His breath of life. All the ideas about Jesus going to hell and preaching to spirits in prison after His death, and gathering captives to take to heaven with Him are out of line. And He was not in paradise in any way, shape or form during the three days and three nights He was in His tomb. He was dead. He said so later on (Rev 1:18).

"To be absent from the body and to be present in the Lord" is not good hermeneutics. Paul is not mentioning an intermediate state. Acts 2:29, 34: “Men and brethren, let me speak freely to you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his tomb is with us to this day… For David DID NOT ASCEND TO THE HEAVENS.” We will not be with the Lord the moment we die. Why is it that the traditional answer to this question is always 2 Cor 5.8 Absent from the body and present with the Lord , just these choice words and there is your answer . But is not that simple , people ignore the context and are not much interested in the rest of the scriptures. What surprises me is that the chapter before 2 Cor 4.14 , Paul is speaking about the resurrection and then in chapter 5: 1 he starts explaining that if our body is destroyed like his, was when he died decapitated or whenever we die , we will receive a transformed body at the resurrection NOT immediately after we we die since it is established that this will occur at the second coming. He says in verse 2 how they desire to be clothed with the habitation that is from heaven. But notice that to be clothed or to received your new transformed body the recipient will be dead and then resurrected . To illustrate , the word naked is used. Notice that he says NOT because we want to be UNCLOTHED. .... Nobody is desiring to be DEAD here. Salm 115.17 the DEAD do NOT praise the Lord. God is not the God of the DEAD but of the living Verse 4 confirms specifically that he wants be be CLOTHED , that MORTALITY ....may be swallowed up by LIFE. He definitely and specifically has NO desires to DIED and as a DEAD man go directly to the presence of the Lord . He wants MORTALITY to be swallowed by LIFE and this is not going to happen any other way but in the resurrection. God revealed to him everything related to this subject and his hope was in the resurrection of the dead Verse 5 God has prepared this very thing and has given the spirit as guarantee. It doesn't matter how long they will sleep in the dust of the ground he is sure they will be resurrected . Daniel 12.13 for you shall REST and shall ARISE to your inheritance. Verse 6...... we are confident that while we are at home in the body , we are absent from the Lord. But he is coming and he will transform our bodies and will give us eternal life at his coming Verse 8...... But rather to be absent from the body .....and to be absent from the body will have to be swallowed by life and transformed to be present with the Lord when he will clothe you with tour new habitation that comes from above. 1Cor 15.40 there are celestial bodies , and terrestrial bodies . 1 Cor 15.44 there is a natural body and a spiritual body. 1 Cor 15.46 however the SPIRITUAL is not first, but the natural . Man only have ONE body , is one per customer . You dont have a spiritual body assigned to you so you can jump out of your physical body at death and be PRESENT with the Lord . 1 Cor 15.32 If the dead do not rise , let us eat and drink and for tomorrow we die. Is impossible to believe that Paul wrote this scripture and at the same time his desire was to die and be with the Lord . If he really believe that in DEATH he will be able to be with The Lord who cares is there is no resurrection or if there is one . Death is the last enemy that will be destroyed , definitely NOT your best friend who is holding your ticket at the door to enter eternity. You die and you will rise for eternal life or eternal death. There are not waiting rooms in between or glorified new and improved versions of purgatory.

It sounds like they’re selling hope, instead of what is biblical. Biblically, you will be in the conscience of God, which means he will not forget about you, and you will rise again judgment day.

Our Father is the God of the living not the dead -- acording to our High Priest. So what do mean by the "intermediate state?"

@@hooh1644 What text or texts would support your supposition that believers "asleep" in Christ are anything but disembodied spirits except and until the resurrection?

The living once you recreate yourself. You're not dead in spirit only in flesh. God is God of those who have the holy spirit. Those who don't, well they have a opportunity to repentance.

The resurrection of Lazarus and Jesus Christ would indicate that our soul and our spirit stay with our body. If Lazarus soul left and went into heaven to be with the Lord, that makes no sense are we saying that all of the people that died and went to sleep in the Old Testament are in heaven? when it clearly states that they’re sleeping… I know we all want comfort, but we should stick to the biblical text. We will be with the Lord when he comes For us in the resurrection before the great tribulation.

This is teaching is ABSOLUTELY FALSE. Read Scripture correctly and extensively my dear pastor brothers and share comfort with others in Truth according to the Holy WORD. The Breath of Life goes back to God when we die and the body returns to ground/earth/dust. Creation . . . Genesis 2:7 7. Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being, a living soul. In Death . . . Ecclesiastes 12:7 7. and the dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit (breath of life) returns to God who gave it. Death. . . Ecclesiastes 9:4-6 4. Anyone who is among the living has hope, even a live dog is better off than a dead lion! 5. For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing; they have no further reward, and even their name is forgotten. 6. Their love, their hate and their jealousy have long since vanished; never again will they have a part in anything that happens under the sun. Not in Heaven . . . Even the many Patriarchs & Pillars of our Faith are NOT in Heaven. They await the final resurrection. Hebrews 11:39-40 39. These were all commended for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised, 40. since God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect.

The Phil. 1 passage doesn’t really answer the question of “the intermediary state” as Mr. Duncan calls it. The passage is quite meta and doesn’t address particulars such as whether the soul is immediately recipient of the beatific vision, though the gentlemen clearly believe that’s what happens. Fact is the Bible doesn’t offer such particular instruction. Reasons for believing in an immediate passage into the presence of God are extra biblical, which isn’t inherently bad but for the sola scriptura Protestant it is problematic to his interpretative structure. In any case thanks for the video.

I must respectfully disagree with you. You are arguing using Roman Catholic jargon. This church's theology is riddled with error; would it be fair to say that you are arguing for another example of these?

If we die and are immediately with God, why do we need ressurection ? What is said is extra biblical.
@TherealTFfromKingston4 жыл бұрын
@@epouseglorieusedechrist8329 from what the Bible says, the resurrection has to do with our actual bodies. Jesus’ death is a good example of this because he died physical death and later was resurrected physically from the dead. Scripture does state that born-again believers will receive the same such resurrection at Christ’s return. This idea of sleep I’ve come to understand has more to do that we’ve died to sin as believers. The Bible cannot attach the same stigma of “sin and death” to the believer once we’ve physically passed away. It’s quite literally a “rest in peace” for the believing Christians since the Bible states we’ve already “died” to sin at our moment of salvation. In this way, there’s no more death, but life eternally. So, our physical bodies are at rest in the graves, cremation, etc. until Christ’s return in glory.

@@TherealTFfromKingston So you're saying that we are immortal in and of ourselves? at least our soul is? that sounds similar to what the serpent told Eve in Genesis 3:4 "you will not surely die" imagine the serpent saying, "actually I'm giving you a way to escape physical existence and be with God! Only your body will die then your soul will be free!" This interpretation of an eternal soul trapped in a physical body seems like a troubling view that could lead to the view that death is actually a way to the presence of God. The way I see the Bible teaches that Jesus has to come again so that we can be together. John 14:1-4
@Mad-genius2 жыл бұрын
Ancient traditions, not the Bible dictate if cremation is sinful or not. The Bible does speak of the body just being a temporary vessel and you have no use for it when its soul is removed. A decomposed body is really no different than ashes. To believe a body needs to be intact in my opinion is ludicrous.Its also a fallacy to believe anybody's soul is in heaven or hell right now. Nobody has been judged yet.

Not to be mean, but I don't understand how it's fair that a devoted christian and a christian that only believes but doesn't pray and follow other rules, get to go to heaven the same way and see christ right after they die. How is that fair? Like is there different processes according to how good of a christian you are? Or does everyone just just automatically go to heaven and be with christ if they do the bare minimum (which is believing in christ)? Please enlighten me as to how it works in your religion (i'm really just curious).
