I woke up one morning to see my dad burning all my Harry Potter books on the BBQ grill. I was very upset at first, but then he looked at me with sorrow in his eyes and asked me; "Do you love these books more than Jesus"???. I was very taken aback at his question. I did not understand why I could not love Jesus and Harry Potter. My dad then read to me the story of Elisha, and how he slaughtered his oxen after he was called to be a prophet. The moral of the story was that, you need to get rid of anything that may hinder your walk with Christ. If Elisha had not slaughtered his oxen, he may have been tempted to return to his former life and abandon his mission for God. My obsession with Harry Potter was causing me to develop an unhealthy interest in the occult and witchcraft, and this was endangering my relationship with Jesus.

The one big key is intention. Practices like meditation, exercise, music (song and dance), liking rocks, essential oils and taking legal drugs/substance for therapeutic, health purposes and even appropriate and responsible relaxation purposes are not inherently witchcraft. They become problematic if used to engage with or in the pursue of spirits/ irresponsibility without spirit defence (from God). Anyone can enter an unlocked house. Not all arts and crafts are idolatry either. The Holy Bible distinguishes between beneficial practices and things from occult activities. Let’s please Remember, Luke was a physician; using medicine isn't inherently wrong (Colossians 4:14) neither is consuming wine (Psalm 104:15; Matthew 11:18, 19), etc. That said, I like this video, for the most part, it explains a lot accurate points. Our loyalty must be on Team Jesus. Liking rocks isn’t witchcraft, using them to engage with the spirit world is.

My reasoning was never because I was searching answers. I don't care about that. My reason was that I could not on good conscious continue to be a Christian and instead found such amazingly beautiful empowerment and hope within myself in witchcraft. Ever read "The Screwtape Letters"? I would say, respecting Satan's power means don't underestimate it. Satan has a mission and a goal to deceive as many people as he can before judgement day, into worshipping anyone or anything above God. Respecting Satan's power means we avoid things that seem 'harmless' but the bible says are forbidden / dangerous / unhealthy. You should know the intentions of the family member. They aren’t going to curse your child or anything. Many forms of witchcraft are misinterpreted. Christians can still perform “witchcraft” if they base their “magic” on the holy trinity. Some Christians find that making an alter for the trinity helps with their spiritual walk with God. The typical baby in a manger decoration can be considered an alter for Christ. This video didn’t do a very good job of explaining everything in depth correctly. All that being said, I think you should talk with the relative and ask for more information before making any drastic decisions.

Hi Pencom, that is an interesting situation. As a believer it sounds like you are well placed to be helpful to the family member. One answer is to "pray for the family member, pray with the family member and teach the family member how to pray". Humans consults spells /the paranormal partly out of curiosity but also to sort out aspects of our lives. You could find out if there is one particular thing driving them to read it. The New International Version (NIV) and American Standard are excellent bibles especially for new Christians! Ok, quick pause. I definitely disagree with many forms of witchcraft such as divination, communing with satan or demons, etc, but as a christian witch (give me a few seconds before responding) i base all of my beliefs in God and the Holy Trinity. A more thorough description of what I do is saying that I am a non-traditionalist (I take old testament stories involving some real people as parables and teachings rather than as a history book) christian that uses the materials that God has placed on this earth to meditate with and associate with my daily prayers and intentions to The Lord. As someone who lives with ADHD especially, having a more tangible way to remind myself to pray has helped a lot in getting to know Jesus better and has motivated me to read my bible and participate more in mass and researching theology. I was raised in Catholicism which is much more ritualistic than I do with the transubstantiation that takes place at the mass as well as offering up our sacrifices to our God. You don’t have to practice what we practice, or understand fully why we do this, we just ask that you don’t portray us as fully demonic :) (Also, side note, i think there would be more than two sources of power [although we shouldn’t worship them] but since satan was a fallen angel, would all of the other archangels be similar in power to him? The Bible never included itself as deceitful so what are we really talking about here. The Bible is the word of God. Christianity with a personal relationship with Jesus Christ is completely different than the way Catholic people do things. You don't even need all that stuff, the holy water, the chanting. You just have to pray and trust in Jesus. I tell you the truth, the Catholic churches in all forms of followers of Christ have been the most deceived. They pray to many idols including all the saints, they make many sculptures paintings and statues, they baptize babies in holy water when the baby is already innocent to begin with, they even feel the need for a pope or a "father" in order to have a relationship with God or in order to be forgiven. None of those are even biblical and even against God's word. It's even in one of the commandments. Thou shall not make any carved image or statue and so forth.... So if you're comparing Catholic people to witchcraft you might find many similarities. But if you have a personal relationship with Jesus you'll see a big difference. You don't need anything, but a prayer life, trusting in Jesus and to pray in Jesus name

Because of the fear and paranoia of Witches, Christians demonized witchcraft believing that Satan would hold a holiday the night before All Saints Day to mock God and attack people with demonic spirits. Halloween is known as All Hallows Eve or the night before all Saints Day, which played into the fears of Christians believing the difference between day and night is the same as light of God with darkness of Satan the night before. Hopefully by understanding the origins of Halloween and the fear and paranoia associated with this event, it can help you understand the differences between a night that Christians fear with paranoia and a night celebrated with family by our Wiccan Coven.

Heard the gospel , realised I never really knew God, thought I knew him, used to pray to him but no conviction of sin. 2.scared I was going to hell , so after the hearing the gospel , someone said “Believe in the name of the Lord Jesus and confess with your mouth he is Lord and believe in heart God raised him from the dead and you will be saved” 3. So I said yes , repented and got baptised but was still scared that I wasn’t really saved 4. Still tried to persist and resit sin , then started thinking about how I miss just being a normal human being and living a normal life without the burden of hell hanging over my head. Trying to be pleasing in the sight of God I’ve concluded is impossible. 5. So now bevasue of all the stress of the Christian walk and the pain of it , I’ve gone back to my old life , that is sinful but at least makes sense. 6. And even though I called on the name of the Lord , baptised , repented etc clearly I’m still not saved. And now I’m completely desolate. And I’ve noticed , no one can help. What a mess this all is. And now I’m just going to here other fearful ppl trying to please God throwing bibles verses at me. What’s this all about ? I’ve walked away from ppl , family , friends for Jesus and still haven’t found him ? Now I feel alone ! Why didn’t he save me ? And why should I not return to my old life when the new one wasn’t found ?? Again …no one will be able to answer I bet

Because I know that Bible verses alone don't always answer the questions I may have. The Bible says that even the Devil believes in God, but that’s not due to faith, that’s because they've seen and experienced God, while we believe by FAITH. (James 2:19) The way we KNOW him is: 1: Repentance: recognizing that we are filthy sinners, in need of Jesus’ saving and forgiveness (which is not of our own works, but of God’s doing - by grace through faith) 2. Choosing to live for Christ DAILY, and depending on him with everything, and God WILL reveal Himself to us through the Holy Spirit and His Word. God says: “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” God doesn’t leave His children, He takes care of them. And even if we go through sufferings, it’s for the working out of our faith. If we truly love him, we won’t want to sin, and won’t have the desire to sin against God. If we truly love Him, we will hate and despise our sin. This is because when we truly repent and realize our need for Jesus' salvation and work in our lives, we no longer have the desire to live in sin like we did before. We are no longer of the world, but instead set our minds on things above. Even so, that doesn’t change the fact that we live in a sinful world, and every now and then believers will stumble, but God says in His Word: “though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the LORD upholds him with his hand.” Psalm 37:2. What's more, God gives us grace every day, even though we fail Him every day. Only God knows the heart of a person, and whether they are saved. If I question whether or not I am truly saved, the answer will more than likely be a definite YES. People who have no care in the world for God, or the way they are living, will not be asking such questions, because they simply don’t care and aren’t sorry in any way for the way they are living. The devil likes to instill fear and doubt in our minds every single day. It’s a daily battle against our flesh, against the world. If Satan doesn’t rest, why should we? As believers, if there are days where God seems far away, but it’s because we moved. We need to daily ask Him to reveal Himself to us. I hope this helps, and I was able to explain in a way that makes sense! Remember, God hasn’t given up on you, He’s there, just reach out to Him! Seek Jesus, and you will find Jesus. The easiest way to find Him is in the Bible and through prayer. I know this may sound dull or unexciting, but it's true. In fact, it’s the best way, exactly why God gave us His Word, so that we could study and know Him - who He is. He WILL reveal Himself to you. God bless you.
