A very good subject. Thank you for raising it and trying to make sense of it in this time of 'anything goes in the name of the Holy Spirit'. One thing I have strongly recognised is concerning the apostle Paul writing 'do not quench the Spirit', 'keep in step with the Spirit' and 'do not grieve the Holy Spirit' all conflating to, 'walk in (accordance with) the (Holy) Spirit'. And this means to walk in a clear conscience without which faith cannot be manifest. Paul says, 'Whatever does not proceed from faith, is sin', Romans 14:23. And no one can please God without faith. Cheers

My observation is that people confuse emotionalism and an emotional release as a movement of the Holy Ghost. I was enlighten way back in the 70s when corporations sent employees to retreats to bond the workers. In a totally secular setting I remember standing with my eyes closed while the director told us to let go, trust your co workers block everything out, and amazingly one bu one we all 'went down' and explained that we were totally relaxed and what a powerful feeling it was. It was an emotional release. That experience totally changed my understanding of slain in the spirit and much of the charismatic experience. God's indwelling is not dependent on 'how or what I feel'

Acts 8.14-17 “Now when the apostles at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent to them Peter and John, who came down and prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit, for he had not yet fallen on any of them, but they had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then they laid their hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit.”
@Titus2BibleStudy Жыл бұрын
Why did this happen in Acts 8? It was a fulfillment of this verse. “but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and **Samaria**, and even to the remotest part of the earth.” Who was this spoken to? “until the day when He was taken up to heaven, after He had by the Holy Spirit given orders **to the apostles whom He had chosen**.” When were they given this commission? Right before Jesus ascended into Heaven. Why did Peter and John go to Samaria? Because they were Jesus’ direct apostles with His direct anointing and commission.
@scottsteelman1303 Жыл бұрын
@@Titus2BibleStudy thank you. Costi’s premise at the minute mark was, “we receive the Holy Spirit when we believe”. Samaria received the word of God. If the Samaritans received the word of God then why did the believers need to be prayed for in order to receive the Holy Spirit? Why had the Holy Spirit only fallen on the ones that had been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus? This seems to be a proof text that all believers did not receive the Holy Spirit when they believed in Jesus Christ. Also, I’m not sure we are talking about the same thing, but thanks for adding value to my comment.
@Titus2BibleStudy Жыл бұрын
@@scottsteelman1303 I think I need to further explain and further clarify my post. This event in Samaria happened during the “transition period” from Judaism to Christianity. It occurred during the formative years of the early church. Information at that time was slow to get out AND the cannon of Scripture was not yet fully written and complete. Just because these people at Samaria believed and were filled with the Holy Spirit at 2 separate times does NOT mean that we Christian today should expect the same. We do not live in the time when the early church was still being formed. We do not live at a time when Jesus’ direct apostles are on earth. We DO live at a time when the canon of Scripture is finished, closed, and widely available. Just because things happened a certain way in Acts does not mean that we should expect the same. This book is called The Acts of the Apostles. It’s a book about the formation of the early church and the spread of knowledge regarding Jesus, the Holy Spirit, and the gospel. It is a historical account of what happened to THEM.
@scottsteelman1303 Жыл бұрын
@@Titus2BibleStudy thanks again. I’ve encountered this view and some of it is projected onto the text to support the premise that “the cannon’s completion does away with the spiritual power and witness of the Acts of the Apostles”. One of the main proof texts that we can observe and appreciate for the continuation of Acts 2 is through the remainder of the Apostle Peter’s words, “For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.” Acts 2:39 ESV Regardless of our experience, we can see proof through these passages that this promise was for all of those people, their children, other peoples who were not there but are far away in other lands, and going forward, it is a promise to everyone who is called to God. The cannon is closed, but it is not connected to these Past or Future events. These acts will cease when Jesus Christ returns. Thank you for interacting with me. Most debaters and apologists no longer use the closed cannon arguments because it cannot be exegetically drawn out of the text.

Good thoughts. It is puzzling to me how so many people seem to think the Holy Spirit retired and no longer manages and maintains all the operations and manifestations He initiated. Even more of a puzzle is the question of where the Holy Spirit dwelt prior to a person coming to faith. Clearly all humanity are the offspring of God, and in Him we live and move and have our being. Scripture also says we (that died with Christ) were also born again by His resurrection. So from a scriptural standpoint we (post resurrection) have all been living in Him and Him in us. The subjective experience is life transforming but the Holy Spirit was already there before we experienced Him. A bit of a mystery. Kind of like Christ being revealed "In" Saul of Tarsus prior to his conversion.

Unfortunately no third Person exists. It was not understood that God in Person sends the Spirit, but that Spirit is the SAME GOD (almighty) who is a spirit, NOT A THIRD PERSON (this is why Jesus NEVER MENTIONS a THIRD person with Him!). Thus no third person exists. The "Spirit of God" (aka Holy Spirit) is actually originated by God (the "normal" God) who is AWAY in a distant dimension "No man has seen God at any time." "the world did not know you". You can see in the gospels that EVERYTHING is carried out by that Spirit here on earth, NOT PERSONALLY by God: the Spirit of God dealt with Mary's pregnancy, spoke when Jesus was baptized, led Jesus into the desert, later helped Him in speaking too. Further, the Spirit of God ("Spirit of your Father") also helped the apostles in speaking. "God is a spirit" (Jn. 4:24) i.e. the only one Spirit who is present here is God, almighty.

Mr. Hinn, In the first portion of your teaching, you make mention that the Holy Spirit is omnipresent; to which I would agree. However, you are conflating a few distinctives. That being, that we can see the apostle, telling us to be filled with the Holy Spirit. This word ‘filled’ is an imperative verb. It’s a command not a suggestion. Why would the apostle, that was theologically sound, say something like this to us, if he was theologically sound? Why are we told to fan the flame? Why are we warned against grieving the Holy Spirit and if we do, what are the results of that grief? Jesus tells the apostles that he must go away so that the paraklete can come. I would assume you would agree that the apostles at this point were saved and filled with the Holy Spirit. If they already had everything that they needed, at that point, from the Omnipresent in Holy Spirit that lived in them, why would they need anything else? If the Trinity lives in us already, isn’t that enough power living in us? Why would we need the Paraclete? One of the greatest documents ever written, the Westminster confession of faith states: ‘God doth oftentimes leave for a season…’ ‘assurance of their salvation divers ways shaken, diminished, and intermitted; as, by negligence in preserving of it,’ The divines understood a *withdrawing* of the Spirit. WCF 5.5 Providence: "The most wise, righteous, and gracious God doth oftentimes leave, for a season, his own children to manifold temptations, and the corruption of their own hearts, to chastise them for their former sins, or to discover unto them the hidden strength of corruption and deceitfulness of their hearts, that they may be humbled; and, to raise them to a more close and constant dependence for their support upon himself, and to make them more watchful against all future occasions of sin, and for sundry other just and holy ends." WCF 18.4 Assurance: "True believers may have the assurance of their salvation divers ways shaken, diminished, and intermitted; as, by negligence in preserving of it, by falling into some special sin which woundeth the conscience and grieveth the Spirit; by some sudden or vehement temptation, by God's withdrawing the light of his countenance, and suffering even such as fear him to walk in darkness and to have no light: yet are they never utterly destitute of that seed of God, and life of faith, that love of Christ and the brethren, that sincerity of heart, and conscience of duty, out of which, by the operation of the Spirit, this assurance may, in due time, be revived; and by the which, in the meantime, they are supported from utter despair." Why would the divines of Westminster put this portion in The Confession, which is highly Calvinistic, if what you say is accurate. As I mentioned, you are conflating these distinctives. We can see and other various places the same sentiment. For example, God is omnipresent, he never changes, and yet we were told that if we draw near to him, he will draw near to us. How can it be that this is in his holy word if he is immutable and never moves. What is the result of rebellion and sin? There is so much to say here, but I believe Westminster said it best, so I will leave it at that . I’m gonna watch the rest of your show.

Since God #1, the Father, is a Spirit, what happens to Him when He sends God #3 the Holy Spirit away to do His work? Does the Father disappear, afterall He's a Spirit who is now Spiritless, right? When God #3 returns, does He disappear since He returns the Spirit to God #1. Jesus, and all the Apostles, claim there is only one God who is One Spirit - did they mean one at a time trading the Spirit back and forth? Or is the Father the one and only Holy Spirit, which He shared with The Word of God in the Old Testament (the pre-existent Christ) and now with His Son in the New Testament (Acts 2:33)?

@DontYouWantToLiveForever Жыл бұрын
@@toolegittoquit_001 I described the only possibility of there being a Trinity. Two gods, who are both distinctly different "persons" who are both coequal omnipresent spirits, cannot both represent the ONE Spirit of the Lord. For a Trinity to coexist, it requires that one has to disappear when the other is active, or you will have two co-equal, distinctly different, omnipresent spirits inhabiting the same space at the same time. Since God is ONLY ONE SPIRIT, you can't have a Trinity containing two different spirits that are both co-equal and omnipresent. I believe in ONE God and Father, who is ONE omnipresent Spirit, and His Son, Jesus Christ (the preincarnate Word of God) who after ascending back to the Father, rejoined God Almighty's Spirit, like they were in Glory from everlasting in *_"...THINE OWN SELF..."_* John 17:5 KJV And now, O Father, glorify thou me *_WITH THINE OWN SELF_* with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.
