Mac will serve as a measuring stick for Trevor. How Mac plays in practice or in games will allow them to better see Trevor's value. Look at what Kurt Warner did at St. Louis. When Trent Green went down after throwing like 3 incompletions the entire preseason, it appeared they had lost the most valuable piece to the puzzle. St. Louis later realized it would be more valuable to trade him. Mac doesn't have to beat Trevor out to show his value. Its more likely they will discover if Trevor is worth a record breaking contract or something closer to the middle which would be more consistent with his play so far.

I would say he's more talented in the right aspects. Trey has superior arm power and athleticism but can't read a defense, had very little accuracy, and no poise. Sam Darnold is tall and has the arm strength but not as athletic and can't read a defense. Purdy is the right mixture of talent in the right places

It means he has a backup that may not even outplay other backups, speaking as a Pats fan. Trevor could play poorly and still hold off Mac, Mac couldn't even bold off his own backup No, the OC situation fooled you and you'te letting it fool you again. Mac had a great rookie year in a time multiple rookies put up great years. Stop giving him a pass for something he was given a pass on already and then still failed after.
