He is a LW. Not a defender. Played as a wingback at times last season.

Can play Wing back though so could well be in LB spot witha back 3 behind him.

Looking at our LM options (Rogers / McGinn / Ramsey even Dobbin) I can’t see him being brought in to play there

They have him as a LM because he is a LM. He was played at LWB for England U21s & scored 2 goals, so Juve did it too.

I think we’re brining him in as an attacking LB option personally, we have McGinn / Rogers and Ramsey at LM

I would imagine his versatility will have him used as a LWB at times, but I don't think he is specifically being brought in for the LWB spot because he isn't the strongest defensively. And I cannot imagine a player of his potential being the backup to Maatsen. Maatsen will be the main LWB, due to his cost, ability & experience. Whether we get rid of Moreno because he might want to leave or Digne due to his wages, only time will tell. McGinn will be used more centrally & on the right, Rogers will be floated between more centrally in the 10 role, as cover & competition for Watkins, Ramsey & Iling-Junior. Ramsey will be the main player for the LM slot, as long as he can get back both his fitness & form. But Emery likes versatility, so I imagine that all will be utilised in more than one position. And its good to have such cover & competition for all comps going forward.

He's much more of a LWer than a LB. LWB was probably more descriptive of his time at Juve. Defensively having Sandro and Yildiz behind and in front of him respectively coming across would have benefited those not so good numbers. I think he'll get more game time at times when We play 3 CB's or as a full on LW when it's a back 4. The other issue I see is that his world class crossing ability may be difficult to utilise. Ollie is hardly a leaping number 9 and he pulls off to the left meaning he won't be available often enough for those crosses anyway. Bailey at the back post will get the odd low One but he's neither are a Vlahovic. Duran in the same team makes much more sense and for some reason, I see them getting along off-field. Is Duran staying though?

Watkins headers have come on massively last season. Some great jumping headers. Also if he can cross well I imagine he can pick out some great lifted passes in behind.

Yeah I think his attacking ability is brilliant! He is great defensively too though and I don’t see him getting any playing time ahead of McGinn / Rogers / Ramsey at our LM spot, but if Moreno and Digne both go he’s defo a good choice behind Maatsen! Ollie is also a great header of the ball, but we’re being linked with multiple strikers above 6ft 2-4 inches tall, which is where Iling Junior comes in with his deadly crossing!
