What does the Wessex Tornister Tuba sound like?
This mighty little tuba packs a punch, and is definitely a favourite amongst our Wessex family. While small in size, it is most definitely not small in sound. The best way to show you this? A full product review and demonstration!
We’re very excited to be sharing this video of our Tornister Tuba with you today!
Last month we had Will Druiett at the Wessex Warehouse to demo some of our tubas, and discuss the history of them with our founder and president Jonathan Hodgetts. As always: he also was able to offer his feedback on the instruments :)
Like our other review and demonstration videos, Will provides us with a brief performance on the Tornister Tuba, but this time: provides us with a jazzy improvisation suited to the style and sound of this beautiful little instrument. The performance was recorded using an Aston Spirit Microphone, and a Scarlett Focusrite interface, to ensure we were able to capture the true tones of the Wessex Tornister Tuba.
While we do have a handful of videos already recorded and ready for release, we are always looking to the future and are curious to know what people want to see next.

After watching this video this compact instrument would be perfect for me now that I disabled and wheelchair bound ! I will be able continue playing and practicing without having to be uncomfortable try to manage some of my larger instruments , Wonderful instrument Bravo 👏 Wessex tubas !

I bought a slightly used one in C about two years ago, to use as a solo/jazz horn… I absolutely LOVE it! It’s an absolutely amazing lil tuba! I highly recommend this horn! Bravo Jonathan and Will!

What was the Other Tuba in that video? And can we hear it? I'm interested in the Jazz bell front model. Which that looked like.

It sounds like a contra bass clarinet, or bassoon to me, but I love compactness of it. I play with 2 brass quintets were I definitely can see this working.

Absolutely brilliant! I have to ask: are we ever going to see some of the funkier high brass instruments? (e.g. Long F Trumpet, Eb Soprano Cornet, Mellophone) Or is the focus primarily on low brass for the near future

I listen to this for a 2nd time with head phones, and I have to say that really has nice sound in the midrange. I still think the low to sub contra range it sound more woody, but I still want to purchase one. I live in NJ Is there somewhere in the U.S. where I can try it out ?
