To me it seems more or less impossible to escape the fashion system. Because also non-western communities that you mention probably have their trends, certain colors that are more popular/taboo/meant for certain specific events/etc. (so possibly there exist multiple fashion systems?). Besides, something like cultural appropriation seems to "invade" certain communities and draw their traditions into the "global" fashion system, possibly against their will.

I think I have to agree with you! And even if we were in a deserted island somewhere, I suspect we would eventually create our own type of fashion system. Fashion is an inevitable part of human expression!
