Your argument Tom depends on the answers to these 3 questions not happening. I would argue that the US transition from a Socialist Capitalist Democracy to a Fascist Capitalist Oligarchy began 8 years ago. 3 facts you should also be aware of: 1. It only took Hitler 2 months to dissolve the Germany Parliament and there was never another election, 2. The fastest and most evenly distributed growth in GDP in world history is Slovenia and it was done within communism but included democratic decision making and a open competitive market, 3. I am a Hispanic female immigrant and naturalized citizen. This election for me, means I have a clear metric of the value, or lack there of, that over half of my country places on my very existence, both as a human being and American citizen. I 💯 agree that the left’s abandonment of the working class and the outrageous policy on propagating the Palestinian genocide, lost this election (the piece about Palestine is my own opinion and was not mentioned by our panelists). However, it also means that: 1) more than half of the country is ok with excusing criminality, misogyny, racism, and anti-democratic philosophy (yes, attempting a violent coup is anti-democratic), to achieve desired ends, [to be clear, I am NOT implying that this election was “rigged” or unfair, he won, and I FULLY accept that], 2) stacking a conflict of interests into government (looking at you Elon), is fully acceptable, 3) blatant purchase of government seats is now acceptable (looking at you Elon and RFK), 4)mental health must be required curriculum in schools, including the making and manifestation of cluster B personality disorders, 5) science, being the platform for medical advancement, will be smothered with RFK, and medicine will be about what “feels” true as opposed to what is rigorously test, peer reviewed, and emergent as accepted medical truth, which is free to evolve with more advancement, 5) free speech will become curated speech, selected by owners of ultra-regulated platforms which mascaraed as forums of free speech and the AP/other orgs with systemic knowledge and experience in the arena of fact checking with journalistic integrity, will inevitably be considered criminal enterprises [the historical precedent for this is ample… maybe the digital age will change this outcome], and said orgs will be violently suppressed, 6) young boys and men deserve and need focused attention to support the evolution of their role in society. They have been told, “You can only embody your true masculinity if women are firmly underneath you; embrace that role by aggressively dragging them back and stripping them of bodily autonomy and see how much better you feel.” The emotional state of men and boys has been exploited as opposed to addressed and redressed… that redress must happen with this upcoming generation and 7) we will continue to erode the natural world, valuing short term profit over long term inhabitability of our planet… and how that, frankly, is not THE ONLY issue that matters… because all the rest hinge upon the survival of our species, is truly baffling and a deeply troubling symptom of our collective madness. I DO NOT think Trump will be capable of dealing with the Nation’s debt and I don’t think he cares; I agree with Tom, this issue is critical… and it will go unaddressed for the next four years… longer if he remains beyond that mark . I will continue my work as a clinical therapist, researcher, PhD candidate, artist, and writer and will serve my country and community with diligence and passion. I will continue transporting women from surrounding states into my state so they can access medical care. I sincerely wish President Elect Trump success… because I love my country and if he succeeds as a moderate leader, all will benefit. However, I feel his seeming (and this is not a diagnosis, but a clinical opinion based on his public presentation) mental illness will incapacitate any ability to collaborate with people who hold divergent views and makes him easily bought and manipulated. I voted Harris… I am not surprised she lost… and I am already buckled in, and the coaster has left the station. I believe the big-scary-drop-off is imminent… I may as well put my hands up and have fun.

I think you have some good points. 1. agreed. 2. So many conflicts of interests are already in existence under every administration... there are 3 lobbyists to every congressman and senate person, so many. 3 goes with 2... they already get bought. 4. I think this would be a good topic to add in schools, I'm not sure how to do that best and I think the rate of novelty increase has left therapists in the dust with the issues it is causing... I'm not sure there is a solution there, it's scary. Also, labeling mental health issues for people often makes them identify as "xxx" and that can be a problem... so that curriculum needs a lot of care. 5. Science was already bought and sold. When lots of research is funded by the corporations that produce the product. I believe in the scientific method, but I think we're typically too biased to actually do it right. everything is so nuanced and we want ANSWERS! your second 5.) Journalistic integrity has always been in question... ever since history began really, but just look at iran contra... pretty fake, aluminum tubes in iraq.. etc. the only difference now is that the amount of content out there is incredible. all speech is curated, even in intimate relationships people often hold back and ironically they may hold back more the more invested they are in the relationship sometimes. 6. it's a big problem: I like Dr. K's takes on this. 7. agreed. we're still very human centric. This is a huge problem with many dimensions... and I don't think C02 emissions are the worst by any measure. I think we actually need to frame it right first, but I don't think anyone cares because we're essentially selfish and can't help but be focused on our perception of reality. We need to expand consciousness, but that requires difficult work... I've tried for 2 decades and still feel pretty far from that, but it's moving along. You probably had a lot more to say on these things if you're like me at all. so many nuances. thanks for the thoughtful comment.

What I like about Tom is that he thinks outloud and tries very hard to be precise with his words. I also, catch a lot of my own way of thinking being reflected back when I listen to him. What Tom does a great job of is hammering home that there is NO way for anyone with a human mind to be able to calculate everything that's having an impact on what happening around us at all times. We can only get snap shots, at best, of the highlight reel. Tom evidenced this by saying that Mark Cuban sounded like he was presenting the est argument for a guilty client. I'd argue that could be said of many of Trumps popular supporters as well. Tom also pointed out that Hillary Clinton said that it is essential that the Democratic Party doesn't "lose control over the narrative", and that was an egregious thing to say. I'd say, she just said the quiet part outloud. Both sides feel and act this way. If that wasn't true then by the hundreds of millions of dollars raised to create ad campaigns and have a robust team of the best campaign strategists avaialable? Both sides do this. So, yeah, we all just put things through our own filters of what we want to happen, and then paint the canvas of our own individual realities as needed with the information we have.

I also struggle with your take on the importance of rhetoric, listening to both sides, communication, ect...Trump was consistently incapable of articulating policies. That is my struggle. very little of his ideas made sense so how i am supposed to have confidence in anything he says?! because he is "relatable"? I can't relate to that.
