Curious about Winnipeg's winter scene? Does everyday feel as if it's -30 or has things evolved over the years? In this video, I return back to my hometown during the holidays to give you a firsthand look at the current snowfall in Winnipeg, capturing the late December and early January vibes.
Keeping this week video on the more casual side with a vlog - I recorded this all on my phone lol.
See you all in the next one :)

Morning from winterpeg. You came one week too early. 😅 Now you have real winter back. -25°C and wind chills below -30°C the snow is here. On main street as you headed North on the right by the underpass was the Old Earls restaurant. They moved up Main to that tower at Grahm ave. 41 storeys and just opened this year. Beats out the tower at 201 Portage by 10 stories as the new tallest in Winnipeg. A title got when it was built in the early 90s. Took that from the Richardson building on Lombard and Main. The Giant R is how you recognize it. The same family who gave its name to our new airport terminal. We got wallopped with snow and a polar vortex on Thursday. In this city not being in the deep freeze since Hallloween is getting off easy. Don't worry. Manitoba is built with the climate in mind. Come by between Febuary 16 to 25th to experiemce Festivsl du Voyager and you see how we can embrace winrer. ❤ Thanks for the travelouge.

Thank you for this amazing update. I have lived in Winnipeg for 5 years as an international student at U of M. I haven't been back for ten years now. I should work on that, because even though nothing much has changed, I still miss the small town safety feeling it gave me.

I actually like Winnipeg a lot! From BC originally and then a decade in Montreal. We get -40C there too, but for some reason don't get roasted as much over the climate

Hi Frank Thanks for your video! Hope you had a wonderful holiday in Winnipeg! I don’t think we are expecting much snow as usual all around in Canada due to the El Nino this year.

I enjoy every moment of travelog videos, Frank, and am never bored. It's an opportunity for me to see places I'd likely never get the chance to visit. I hope you'll do more travelogs in the future. Thanks for highlighting the Fort Garry Hotel. I like ghost hunter channels, so now I'm going to check out this place on KZbin. Glad you were able to enjoy your visit with family and friends. It seems to be a light snow year in the U.S. as well this year. A far cry from winters 60 years ago. Please do more videos like you did in your early KZbin days. I enjoy those kind of spontaneous, everyday life videos a lot. Also, your Dim Sum meal looked so good. Happy New Year, and I'm looking forward to watching more great content as your year progresses. Wishing you all good things, always! 👍🥂☃

Happy new years to you as well! I didn't put too much effort into this video, but glad you still enjoyed it overall (I actually recorded this all on my phone so I didn't think much of it). Btw - Apparently its room #202 in the Fort Garry that's haunted - not the 13th floor as I thought. Anyways thanks for the continued support, appreciate the comments.

Videos made on your phone are great as they can really impart a sense of spontaneity which can be a lot of fun. Also, I hope you'll one day make livestreams either from your home or while doing walkabouts around town. I really enjoy joining those, and I believe your viewers would as well. 👍@@FrankHuynh

Love the styles of video. I'm always impressed with the scale of Canadian cities. They always have more tall buildings than US cities of similar population. No sow but still cold!

Winnipeg ranks #6 on Canada's biggest cities. Behind Edmonton and ahead of Mississauga Ontario. Its just that it is in the geographic center of NA and far from everywhere. Like any city it has highs and lows. More to do in summer outdoors but plenty of winter activities as well. Life adapts.

Winnipeg is the second coldest city in Canada. Temperatures in the winter can hit -40 pretty often and that is without wind chill. Accuweather listed both Winnipeg and Yellowknife as 2 of the top 5 coldest cities in the world. I just think you got lucky on the week you went. I've been saying though that the GTA area doesn't nearly get as cold as people think it does. Other places in Canada and the US get way colder but majority of the people live in the GTA so the assumption of "harsh Toronto winters" gets pushed out there.

Winnipeg is GREAT....if you don't get clunked over the head putting out your trash.....Also.....there used to be an intelligent way of expressing weather temperature (along with considering wind chill in watts per Sq meter).....now.... the temperature given requires a 10 minute conversation to determine if wind chill is being considered.....CHILLS !!!!

OK.....FALSE showing of the -40C, please remove it. Ya, I know it's click bait. Lived here all my life. [sadly, yes] The coldest I have ever experienced was -41.2C with no windchill. The average winter weather temp is what, -15.26C At these temps I get a step ladder out, place it in the snow drifts in my yard, climb to the top and belly flop into the snow. It ain't that cold. I wear shorts while shoveling snow at -10C. I run around the neighborhood at -5C in sneakers, hoodie and sweats. -25C with no wind, is actually kinda nice, it's crispy! See video of me snow diving at STUMPR1. Now, -15C in Toronto is a whole other ball of wax as humidity plays a huge factor as temps drop. -15C in WPG, i walk in the park and enjoy it. Cheers! STUMPR1
