5:22-6:22 your takes on who should and shouldn't count as a gamer if they only play a single video game are actually so on point that it's scary. i personally am an overwatch addict and have been since summer 2019. i have total 1600 hours in game spread across a main account and two alt accounts. (not ashamed lmao) the 1600 hours is actual time spent in a match, it doesn't account for queue times or being afk in the menus eating food. factoring that i'm and i easily have 3500+ hours in overwatch over the span of 5 years. i also adore the darks souls 1, 2, and 3. im also a speed runner, and run celeste, hollow knight and both portal games with mid level times in all 4 games. i've been wanting to learn how to run minecraft bedrock edition any%, and mario 64's 16 star category.

My favorite experiences have been growing up playing games that are considered 'boy games' like Star Wars KoToR by non-geeks. But people still act this way when you play things beyond the new norm of Candy Crush and Animal Crossing, and they hate being called a gamer (derogatory). For some reason it's almost always my fellow ladies that act like I'm a freak of nature for enjoying the most entry-level games or board games. The boys are usually happy to let me join in without questions. I have some amazing gaming bros and game with the husband. Favorites of mine are Bloodborne, Monster Hunter, KoToR series, old WoW, Houseflipper, Tomb Raider (pre-2nd reboot), Dragon Age, Pokemon Crystal, Mass Effect 1&2, Tekken, Gundam Breaker, Samurai Warriors series, Valheim and Fire Emblem. A gamer is someone that engages in gaming culture, it's not about the games they play persay. My mother plays a mobile game, but she has a clan, interacts with her clan members and complain and leave feedback to the devs. She can sometimes talk to me about shitty game design or if a new update is predatory or good. She plays it every day, she 100% every update and she's as tight with her guild as a WoW raid guild could be. She's a red blooded gamer. If all you do is play the latest release of madden, don't really do anything else or engage in any discourse, you're not a gamer, you just play madden. At the end of the day, my criteria to be a gamer is usually if someone would know about you, not personally but effectually. My mother is known by the devs and her clan members. The devs feel her effect because she does leave feedback and complaints. Sure she's just a number, but at least they KNOW about the number. So if you play every Age of empires games, preorder them or play the multiplayer, 100% the campaigns or stick around to play skirmish, you're a gamer. You talk about the games you play, you interact with others in games or around games, you're a gamer. But if you *just* play games, nothing else. Phone games or PC games, you do a little bit of smash or a little bit of WoW to relax, you're not really a gamer, just a player of said games. So if this is you, when people say inflammatory stuff like "Gamers are sexist" or "Gamers ruined X" they're not talking about you just because you play games or whatever. You can kick balls around without being a football player.

Funny thing about (American McGee's) Alice (top middle), from the "girl games" list is that when I wanted to try it out, it had a Steam page but wasn't for sale there... that kind of had the same vibe as "not on spotify", to be clear its there now, amd I've bought it just havent found time to play it. Bonus Fun Fact: The American McGee person that the game is credited to used to work for OG Id software with both Johns etc. I think he was an artist on their Doom and Quake era games. Yes! Also I have a ton of male friends that love Clock Tower, Rule of Rose with SH2 as their favorite game ever. I have never gotten ahold of RoR and Alice is a bitch to play, but a lot of that list just sounds like ANY goth gamer's bread and butter! There's some games that are directed in a very specific way to male or female but it's not as many as people think. It's like saying women can't adore Tarantino or Guy Ritchie movies ...they just happen to make good movies. Good stories transcend any 'target audience'. Much like these games have good, dark stories and happen to have some feminine storylines or involve women's experiences at times.
