@@donnaschmidt2597 There is a USA couple on you tube that portray Ecuador as rainbows and unicorns. I appreciate how honest this channel is.. I have been on the coast for two years. I love Ecuador but there are serious topics, such as crime, that need to be discussed. And the streets are horrible. We don't drive at night.

Great video, Ace! I think your question , “what are you willing to put up with?” is the ultimate question. I’m also concerned about how much the Ecuadorians are willing to tolerate. Very frustrating to see your taxes increase with nothing to show for it. Take care, and thanks for the info!!!
@GMAceM
@GMAceM 5 ай бұрын
The whole “we’re paying these taxes and nothing has happened” has been the main talk of the people next to “I don’t want to go out because something might happen”, but that is the Ecuadorian sentiment and I realize it’s not going to be the same thought someone from someplace else might have. That’s why it’s all a matter of comfort, people here are fed up and if given a chance to leave with a guaranteed job I’m sure most would. Always glad to help and thanks for checking the video out!

They came with high tax in my country Kenya, increased salaries for the politicians,president, vice and a huge amount to their wife’s. Then cut on hospitals, schools meals and infrastructure. They want also to taxes on ancestral lands. We said NO! They withdrew the bill. People burned down some politicians houses and businesses. Enough is enough.

Thank you GM for always sharing honest comments . I feel bad for the citizens of Ecuador that have to put up with the bad conditions such as roads, crime, power outages . We live in Vilcabamba and it’s open season on older expats . My 75 year old friend and her husband were robbed and tied up for over 10 hours. She was also repeatedly r- -d and So--ized . There were 7 men and 1 woman . This has been happening for several years and is now escalated. This will definitely hurt the economy of Vilcabamba and Ecuador as word spreads of these horrible crimes. I’d think twice before coming here. The President needs to get a handle on this mess .

We always talk about how Ecuador has so much to offer touristically and I definitely never want to downplay that but I also can’t turn a blind eye to what’s happening in the country and no one else can either. There’s another part of the conversation to be had where it’s really a matter of the government being poorly equipped to do the things they might actually be able to do if they weren’t so poorly equipped. I could go on but that’s definitely a conversation for another day

The feeling you have regarding paying additional taxes and see little results, believe it or not this is because the crime was actually worse it was believed . Its important to stay the course and you will see positive results. like saving money, in the beginning it docent seem your saving much , but as time passes by you will see the savings. Stay the course and stay focused.

good and informative content. The power outages I still think it's what I heard last month on another creator's channel. The entire shortage was created to promote the power system going private. The good part is this will reduce the national budget as long as the government doesn't subsidize it. As people who live in capitalism know, this can lead to price increases, and usually, the price per kWh goes up annually. After all a private company's primary concern is their profit margins and stock holder's returns. Speaking of crime and security will be the responsibility of whoever is in charge of the Military and Police. In Ecuador, if the federal minister doesn't handle their men and women correctly, it will fast return to the past four years.
@GMAceM
@GMAceM 5 ай бұрын
If the price of power goes up too high, people are gonna be upset for sure especially since even a $1-5 increase to a $25 bill makes them go fight mode lol I’m kinda losing hope for crime to disappear. I realize that realistically that’s impossible anyways since crime will probably always exist in some way shape or form but even the things happening now seem to be things that are gonna keep happening.

We waited one hour for the police to show up at a murder scene , We came out and preserved the scene, we have worked as vecinos to repair the streets and patrol and secure our neighborhood, it has caused us to be closer within the community. Not perfect but better and a love for my neighbors and their families.

You don't know what the roads were like ten years ago. Dodging potholes on connecting roads was normal. Roads have improved drastically. Can't do it all at once, and it's improving.

I’m sure that some of the roads 10 years ago were crazy especially if they’re worse than the ones I encountered, and I encountered some pretty crazy ones. It’s certainly taking time but it also feels like a lot of things have halted and in some cases are going backwards. Nothing’s gonna be perfect but I think at least keeping the things we have in order is better than nothing.

@@GMAceM Totally. The road between Mindo and Manta had a lot of bad sections where it was slow going steering around big potholes every few yards. From "La T" to Junquillal was crazy bad, the entire road was chunks of asphalt. 5mph was it and even then chunks would clang on the undercarriage. That was during the time of beefing up the panamericano and other main arteries which they did a great job on. But yeah, maintenance. Obras. They need funding. It's hard to get the people to lend a hand anymoreadays. "When your outgo exceeds your income, your upkeep becomes your downfall"

The Ecuadorian military and police have a lot of corruption. They have members who are gang members or work for the gangs secretly and share Intel. They're also not as well trained as the US military. You will see a group of 12 huddled together on 1 street corner joking and looking at their phones when they should be spread out at least. Ecuador also has really liberal laws, especially for minors. Many assassin's are under 18, and get released from police custody in a few days and are back out on the streets. The people of the Sierra and the Amazon have Indigenous Justice, which works decent as a deterrent.

I got too into the other things I mentioned and also had felt pressured due to the lack of time. Hang on! Let's see how Ecuador 🇪🇨 does against Venezuela 🇻🇪 this afternoon! The game starts at 5 pm. I live in Sector Basilica, Quito Sur. It's about a ten minute walk to La Plaza de La Independencia. I have noticed an increase in military personnel and National Police in an around El Centro Histórico. I feel safe in the area in which I'm living. I frequently walk at night from El Centro Histórico back to Sector Basílica. After 9 p.m., the streets are practically deserted. The METRO is well policed and well lighted. Tonight, I'm meeting my three Equatorianous sons in Iñaquito to watch the soccer game. We'll travel home together on the METRO, probably leaving at 730 pm. Yeah....power outage. I was by myself in Iñaquito looking to take the METRO when the power went out. Oh well....I could have taken the bus, a cab, or ÜBER, but that seemed too much like work. Also, I only pay 22 cents to ride the METRO. The taxi would have set me back $3 or $4 and Uber, probably $3. What's a poor American immigrant to do? Well....within 30 minutes all of the stores that had generators were up and running and I have a fav spot for an ice cold Pilsener. A two liter bottle for $3, the cost of a cab ride. So, guess how I passed the time? Two hours later, the power was back on, and the METRO service started back up. My friends are all Equatorianous and Quechua Indian. Some of them I have known for ten years. Two of them live with me. We have a great Bible believing church that we attend. The boys are out of school, so we're planning a trip to the coast once again. La Playa Atacames is our spot on the coast. Although we are considering Manta, because we've never been and the pics all look very nice. Being friends with the indigenous people of Ecuador has forced me to learn Spanish. They say that I am progressing nicely. Considero una benedición haber emigrado al Ecuador. Estoy contento aquí. Estoy de acuerdo en que Ecuador no es para todos. Pero, para mi Ecuador está hermosura y pienso mi area está seguro.
