Yeah, I think there needs to be more historical comparison in this conversation. I don't believe that what Elon and Trump did is all that unique in substance. We shouldn't be looking at it as if its all new when it really isn't. I believe one of the reasons pple trust Trump is that they know who he is and what he'll do to get what he wants done done. Unlike Dems who actually raised more money than Trump but you don't hear more than a whisper of who those donors are. It is kind of refreshing to see leaders who aren't trying to do everything including questionable things in the backdoors, and to be mainly focused on keeping a face we know isn't all that real. Anyways, the whole federal austerity might mean colder times are coming for the US economy also given the amount of backlash and uncertainty drastic decisions may cause. Let's see how it will all unfold. The world is watching with you America.

It's still different. If you'd live in an oligarchy, you'd know the difference. Bloomberg, like the Koch brothers, or Soros, or any wealthy people could exert influence by buying politicians. That's corruption.. oh sorry, lobbying. Oligarchy is just more straightforward. Just a few people having direct control over government decision for personal benefits. You can't even compete with their business. You could lose business or your life if you do harm to their businesses. That is the case in Russia, Ukraine (was), Cambodia, Vietnam, Turkey... So far, rules of law prevents that in the US, but as the rules don't count with Trump, the US could now move closer to an oligarchy.
