Jewel Staite was perfectly cast as Kaylee. In fact, I think the whole cast was perfect for their roles. It's a shame Fox cancelled the show.

This show is proof that they really didn't try when they made live action bebop. That or actors/directors/writers suck these days.

Fox sabotaged it from the get go. It didn't fit their LOUD/EXPLOSIVE/SEXY profile so they tanked it. They aired it in a time slot they called the Friday Night Death Slot because nobody watched those showings, they tried to set up Zoe and Mal in a romantic/provocative relationship but Joss wouldn't let them. They aired the pilot LAST, when thats not only the longest episode but it also introduces everything the show is founded on. They also screwed with the ads for the show because they made it look LOUD and EXPLOSIVE and SEXY, all bottom tier qualities the show does not possess and for good reason, too. So they cut it after the first season, neglected to promote the movie very well, and it never saw renewel. Thankfully there are about 15 years worth of comics including an ongoing series right now and they're really good so at least we have that
