When Jace Yawnick was diagnosed with cancer at 25, he could’ve given up. Instead, he built a platform that’s helping thousands of cancer patients. In this inspiring episode of “The Dr. Hyman Show,” Jace opens up to me about his fight and why early detection matters. We also explore the role of metabolic health, personalized care, and the crucial connection between nutrition and cancer treatment.
In this episode, we discuss:
Jace’s unexpected diagnosis at age 25 with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, the symptoms he experienced, and the emotional challenges of facing a life-threatening illness at such a young age
The crucial role that family, friends, social media, and even strangers played in supporting Jace emotionally, mentally, and practically during his treatment.
Jace’s focus on eating clean, organic, nutrient-dense foods during treatment, and the mixed messages from his doctors regarding nutrition’s role in cancer recovery.
Advancements like liquid biopsies and their potential to detect cancer early, empowering people to take a proactive approach to health.
Jace’s decision to establish a nonprofit to support other cancer patients, focusing on financial aid and fostering connections between survivors and those currently battling cancer.

I have the greatest empathy and respect for this champion, but less than 20 minutes in, I just have to turn this off. My husband endured the same horrific trauma during treatment for tonsil cancer in 2029 at MD Anderson. It was the most terrifying, soul crushing ten weeks of our lives, and then the following three months continued to get even worse. Radiation damage does not stop when the treatments end. Chemo literally almost kills you. 106 degree temperature, insane pain, inability to swallow, nausea. On and on. Mike is five years cancer free praise God. But the damage to his mouth and throat is permanent. Cancer and treatment is so brutal and as I just realized, traumatizing even five years out. God bless this young man.

No one should have to pay for life saving medical bills if they are not rich. Stress makes it harder for the body to handle the depletion of cancer treatments and everyone is stressed during that time.

Went through it myself. Don’t understand people who feel the need to go on and on about it. For me I just wanted the treatment, and get on with my life. I don’t understand cancer survivors who inflict their pity stories on anyone within earshot. As for support groups, I worked full time, took care of my family, and had endless treatments. So I didn’t have the time. And I didn’t feel the need for extra support. I guess they’re fine for those who need more support.

@@richardzakh7209 Guess what Dick! My husband died of cancer and he didn’t want pity parties while he was wasting away. He’’d say “Some people look at me like I’m already dead.” He wanted to be treated by people normally. He enjoyed having visitors, but didn’t want visits to be a discussion of how many days he had left to live. Thank goodness his many friends treated him perfectly.

IMO, it’s the massive failure of our government in protecting us from the chemicals we are now consuming. Our food supply is toxic. Plastics are killing us and the planet. You have to do a lot of research to find skin care, detergents, shampoos without toxic ingredients. This is why we are a sick society living shorter lifespans from our parents. Ya capitalism without guardrails!

I do wish Dr. Hyman had asked what his lifestyle was like. It helps for context. He said he worked. Some of us work 3 jobs and dont get cancer. Was he a pothead? Did he smoke anything? What was his diet like? How much sleep? Any supplementation? Hyman said he was ripped, did he take steroids?

It is just crazy that Doctors do not get nutrition training in Medical schools. Every doctor visit should include some nutrition discussion. The majority of the population is over weight or obese leading to high blood pressure, heart disease and cancer. Schools and hospital cafeterias should be leading the way to good health by setting the example of what is a healthy meal and teaching people what to eat and why.. Every person in the hospital for heart disease should have a nutrition class before being checked out from the hospital with follow up education and training in nutrition. Medicare and Medicaid should require patient nutrition education as part of their standard of care. Nutrition information should be run on the hospital TV channel. Prevention needs to be emphasized to every patient. After the fact pills and surgery don't deal with the ROOT CAUSE.
