As a homeschool mum without a classical education, it’s so confusing! I’m trying to do this, I know it’s good, but I really can’t define it. I went to school but I’m pretty sure all I got out of it was friends. I read all these books about education and classical education and I end up MORE confused about it all. So much to think about but why is it so hard to put it all together and get the concept of it straight in my mind?! Maybe I need flash cards and drill questions 😅

I'm still new to the concept of Classical Education as opposed to contemporary education myself, but this is what I feel is a major part of the defining factor: It's a pursuit of the knowledge that's defined and continues to define Western Society, for it seeks to raise up ladies and gentlemen who are refined in the wisdom of what it means to be citizens who have a love for truth and beauty. Like he stated, this means digging into academics not only to get "smarter," but to learn each piece as a part of a whole, in which the recognition of order of the world as a whole brings appreciation toward the corpus of thought given to us by preceding humanity and love for the center piece that holds all aspects of knowledge together (In my case, that is a love of perfection in God).

Thank you for this! Many times I hear Classical education as just based on the trivium. In our homeschool, we includes many other aspects of classical education (i.e. Latin, classic literature, study of all the liberal arts, a focus in the 3 transcendentals) but I don't focus on those educational stages intentionally...so I've always said, I'm not a classical educator, although I seem that way to homeschool friends lol. I would LOVE a deep dive into Charlotte Mason as being "classical". That would be a very interesting debate 😊
