The whole concept in Wing Chun this to bridge the gap not keep your distance if you keep your distance you will lose but if you bridge the gap dominate the center line and protect your Centerline then Wing Chun can evolve

This is a very good explanation. I was afraid to use man sao before because it seems to make me feel vulnerable but you highlight that it's a live and responsive position and not static. Imo you have the best wing chun videos on youtube by focusing on the application of the concepts and adapting to realistic problems in modern combat.

Thank you for saying so. Man Sao should be used as a live seeking process and not an over extended static arm. Especially when facing a live mobile attacker with Wing Chun. Thank you for watching.

good explanation most people dont understand the difference between the form and learning structure and the actual use of that structure during an encounter. IMHO spot in explination

Thank you, when I just try to break Wing Chun down into simple understandable chunks that everyone can understand. That way you can apply these ideas more quickly and effectively. Thanks again. Have a great day.

Excellent video Sifu. This is a vitally important aspect of WC's philosophy embedded in its structure.

Completely agree. Wing Chun has a sound conceptual foundation, but it still needs practical development for the modern age. Thank you for watching and commenting.

I see your point. I just want to sat you have the perfect body for Traditional Wing Chun. Tall thin and long reach is advantageous. But so is footwork. I'm not sure how many different type of footwork you teach. We in Cheung style do not slide our feet ..ever ..and when we block we pivot step and face the point of contact on the block. So if the opponent throws a right punch , I pivot step with left Bil Sau, face the point of contact and simultaneously right Wing chun bunch to jaw. We call the knife hand a Wu sau, but honestly I take a boxing stance because the Wu Sau is a dead give away that I know wing chun.

Nice one as always. But I find that the voice volume of the series are a bit too small. Is it possible to fix that? If so, the video will be even better!

I never face an opponent squared up; I always show him one side or the other. This way he doesn't have a clear shot at my groin. And I have excellent linear movement to either side in this stance. Although, in an actual confrontation, I kind of Circle around my opponent--- Not 'dancing' but drawing the guy much like a boxer would. If the guy happens to be real active, trying to dance around like a boxer, I simply keep my distance and let my reflexes and training tell me when, where, and how to strike. I try to end the altercation quickly without hurting the guy too much.

***** Sure. We can look at this in a future Wing Chun video. We have been asked to cover the ideas of dealing with a "Sucker Punch", so we can incorporate this idea for you. If you have subscribed to our channel you will get a notification when we eventually film this Wing Chun video.

What if the person was blind? Would wing chun still be affective?
@ghcheong
@ghcheong 6 жыл бұрын
Matt Nobrega poor vision, yes,but being blind would be quite a challenge as one would need to see the hand shape of the opponent and where the opponent is moving . However,there are people who train Wing Chun even with poor eyesight, Bruce Lee for one trained Wing Chun even with very poor eyesight, so it is possible. As for totally blind, I will have to have Sifu Mark's opinion on it.

Only if they manage to create a conection to their opponent's arms. Which could prove difficult to do without getting defeated in the process.
