I think the concept would go further if, instead of making the girls literal personifications of the kaiju, they instead had a connection to them and could summon them to do battle, or ride them like evas. This would make it easier for the concept to evolve past being a slice of life comedy and incorporate more dramatic elements and action sequences. The girls could form relationships to the monsters, similar to Digimon and perhaps be responsible for rehabilitating them from their previously villainous ways and teach them to defend humanity and other sentient beings out in the cosmos similar to Ultraman. Various conflicts could arise from girls being paired with kaiju who compensate rather than match their personality: a shy and caring girl could be pair with a particularity bloodthirsty kaiju and have to learn to stand up for herself in order to keep him under control. So on and so forth. What I really like about the concept is how it is able to draw upon Ultarman's lengthy legacy, but I think it could do more to not only keep Ultraman going, but contribute and expand on it. This will ultimately give the series it's best chance of long term success. It can't rely on reiterating the past for too long.

@dethhollow2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, straight-up. Like do a sort-of Digimon or Fate thing where every Kaiju has a 'master' or partner of some kind and then you could keep the cute anime girl slice of life stuff while also letting them transform for small periods of time to have actual Kaiju-on-Kaiju battles. With CG starting to get pretty solid in anime, you could probably pretty reasonably give fans of the classic series, itself, a bunch of fun monster matchups to get people who like the actual fights back on-board while the partner element lets them get a bunch of cute anime girl waifubait figure-moving stuff out there. I mean, I've been keeping up with Ghost Game. Just imagine any scene with Gammamon but instead it's a cute anime girl with a tail getting to excitedly eat chocolate for the first time or something, right? If you can give it a solid budget then that has loads of potential, I think. I mean, again, just look at Fate, slice of life stuff with partners that actually has a plot and action can do really well.

You know while the whole turning objects and scary creatures into cute girls is often used for the comedy and ecchi factor as well as just people like seeing cute girls do cute things while connecting to a previously established ip. I would find it interesting if they made a manga or anime and played it completely straight. The villains would keep their base personality just have a change in form and adapt their evil plans in this new situation and the monster would change in size and intellect but still be powerful and they would have to learn how to be more human. That could be fun and interesting as well as ironically funny. Since going dark or at least serious with something like that is comedic to imagine.

The 8-bit chibi avatars of the girls in the end credits was done with other shows , such as the collab between Light Novel anime adapted shows including Re;zero, Overlord, Tanya the Evil, etc. The anthropomorphizing of the kaiju girls has been a thing for a while, as well as turning warships and planes into girls in Azur Lane and Kantai Collection. If I recall, Kemono Friends also predates Kaijuu girls, but there's been figurines of kaijuu girls for Zetton for quite some time well before the Kaijuu girls anime back around 2010-12. I'm surprised gundam girls was already a thing at the very start....we did see robotgirls later on through Busou Shinki and later Frame Arms Girls.

the absolute panderin. to me. gomora-tan 'bout to make me act up. but on a different note, i'm thankful for the tone the video takes on the niche sub franchise. you came off as naturally invested in these cute anime girls and was most importantly open-minded, which is sadly rare nowadays where negative over exaggeration overrides rational sincerity for anime themes like that of kaiju girls. bit of a side ramble but still, much appreciated.

This whole moe-morphism genre has gone to a huge scale with things like Kantai collection and other series mainly known for the collectible figure lines. I've even seen humanized japanese medieval castles, sold as very detailed figures! sometimes it blurs the line with the ''monster girl'' genre. But I don't think the monster girl genre originates from turning X popular thing into marketable female designs.

So a little follow up here and there. First for Gundam Girls: Mika Akitaka, one of the mechanical artists for Gundam was behind starting and popularizing the entire idea. In fact, it was his F91 girl that spurred the creation of the Ginga Ojousama Yuna/Galaxy Fraulein Yuna series of games (which later had OVAs) created by Hudson (the folks behind Bomberman). The series is practically Sailor Moon IN SPACE! with power armor but Yuna also has a giant mech as well usually reserved for the final battle. As for Ultraman, it's still reaching out in different ways. In fact, around Christmas last year, Ultraman (the Netflix one) had a crossover event with Medarot S (Medabots S for english speakers) and had medarot versions of Ultraman and Seven. In relation to kaiju girls, I think japan has a long history of moe anthropomorphism (gijinka in japanese; I'm sure some of you are familiar with this term in relation to pokemon at least). I'd imagine it started with Gundam Girls founding mecha musume and then other otaku sub-cultures took the idea and ran with it. Those otaku are basically working in the industry now so it's not too much of a stretch to see this having become a thing.

to summarize also why it was done was simple: Japan's entertainment industry relies heavily on a very powerful (by powerful as in a group that spends like 10x more on merch than casuals) minority of Otakus. Not that it's bad, as they're viewed by many as their bread and butter, but it's altruism of expanding market makes it feel less like an ambition and kinda a bit more like optics to avoid angering fans of said group. (from what I've learned, Otakus aren't really welcomed in any anime subgroup)

Not gonna lie, I opened this video thinking it was going to talk about the internet fan phenomena of K-girls, an intersection of monstergirl fandom, kaiju fandom and moe fandom that's been around since the 2000s and was probably popularized if not invented by the galleries of the website "Twisted Kaiju Theater" (until the owner pulled them down in a hissy fit over realizing that people were more interested in them than in his stupid webcomic). The idea that an actual tokusatsu anime based on the concept never once crossed my mind. Consider me surprised and enlightened.
