What Exactly is a Pace Car? - Its Origins, 1956 Desoto Fireflite

There's typically a couple "pace cars" at the track during a NASCAR race, but what about the ones that are sold at dealers? Check out some crazy 1950's features on this official Indy 500 Desoto Fireflite pace car. There's a record player IN the car!!

My Grandfather owned a 56 Desoto Firelite that was pink and black!

Exner excellence! Gorgeous grand touring car! Very sporty convertible! The clock on the dash could be replaced by a tasteful RPM gauge, and Exner actually had his stylists design bucket seats and center console for this car, but they did not make it to production. This was the DeSoto version of the Chrysler 300 Letter series muscle car.

331 is actually a Chrysler engine. The 330,5 or just 330 is the engines that 1956 Desoto firedomes and fireflites came with.
