What Exactly Is Forbidden Knowledge - Genshin Impact Theory

OK so I'm going to try to summarize the order of events - from the video. It has FIVE events that introduce Forbidden Knowledge to Teyvat and you claim that for each such event there's a corresponding descender who arrives on Teyvat bringing the Forbidden Knowledge. For some reason the numbering of FK events starts at zero, but the numbering of descenders starts with one. FK = "Forbidden Knowledge". Primordial One fights 2nd Who Came. 2nd Who Came wins fight. 2nd Who Came calls itself the "Heavenly Principles" 2nd Who Came aka "Heavenly Principles" is the 1st Descender and brings FK. This war constitutes FK event 0: "the ousting" : 1st descender = 2nd Who Came. 2nd Who Came then makes a peaceful Teyvat Shades of PO become servants of 2nd Who Came For some reason the whole PO history is concealed Humans arise now, or arise again? I guess they were still created by the PO though Seelies either get employed by 2nd Who Came too, or maybe they were always with it this peaceful time after 2nd beats PO is "envoy age" Then there's a new war which is also world threatening, same as the last one. FK event 1 : "the devastation" : 2nd descender is the Heavenly Kingdom's heirs (yes both of them, heir 1 and heir 2, constitute the 2nd descender) Plus this is the war the dragons give it another try with the Dragon King getting FK Presumably from the 2nd descender(s). This war and this descender is the "invaders" that the GoF references in Amethyst Crown This 3rd war is not mentioned in Before Sun and Moon Presumably because they were buried when it happened. Anyway the 2nd Who Came wins this one too. 1st heir marries a Seelie. Seelies are exiled. Dragons defeated again. After that war Apep tries to find FK and the Nails are sent down Nails are sent down to mend rifts caused by FK So... the 2nd Who Came sends the Nails to fix their own weapon/tool's results Leap forward thousands of years to the Archon war FK event 2 : "the apocalypse" : descender ??? GoF rebellion. Something about opening a door for Deshret. Basically this is when Deshret gets FK. Is he meant to be descender 3 then? Or is the GoF the third descender? Or we just get FK without needing a descender this time? Or is there a 3rd descender on the other side of the door who comes through? The video says it is not clear. Leap forward another few thousand years to the Cataclysm. FK event 3 : "the Cataclysm" : descender Lumine. Now Lumine is said to be a descender (without numbering her) despite the fact that the Fatui say Lumine is not a descender. ie the video is saying the Fatui are wrong to say Lumine is not a descender. So the real number of descenders is therefore five, not four. I'm assuming the author thinks of Lumine as the Sibling btw. Lumine brings FK. I guess there's a war (the Cataclysm) as a result somehow. Irmin may have been seeking the FK and summoned Lumine. Irmin may have heard of FK from notes left by the 2nd heir (half of the 2nd descender) Not sure why but video doesn't call Lumine 4th descender and Traveler 5th. Implied but not in video: FK event 4 : "the start of the game" : descender Aether He's the last descender of five so presumably the 5th descender somehow brings FK without realizing it I guess? Called 4th descender by the Fatui because they don't count the Sibling (Lumine). No war breaks out but presumably the flapping about by Nahida about how the Irminsul needs to be healed is because of... an uptick in the amount of FK she was... monitoring or something? well she wasn't calling it FK at first since she didn't know the term I think. Anyway that's not in the video, just implied.

I am really curious if we will ever get some kind of confirmation on what forbidden knowledge is, exactly. I remember someone saying something along the lins of forbidden knowledge being like an advanced program and Teyvat being like an old computer. You may be able to download an advanced program to an old computer, but running it causes problems. but I'm not sure how fitting that metaphor really is.

I think I was the one who said that, I even used windows 95 and faked install genshin kmpac ton it in the video to explain what I meant. Back then it made perfect sense, and it kinda still does, but we would have to explain why the dragons were able to collect and use forbidden knowledge without going crazy or getting corrupted when they tried to fight the heavenly principles

Will the forbidden knowledge affect the traveller since the traveller and knowledge is not from the world itself? That was my doubt since the Nahida story quest

No, the traveler is immune to Forbidden Knowledge, which is seen by Nahida as having a high tolerance. She says it in the second story quest, when we have to free the Geo Shroom in the Chasm

@@ShadowXImpact i also watch other theory videos about forbidden knowledge but i didnt heard them say that descenders is connected or one of the reason to the forbidden knowledge... maybe becoz their other option is that the siblings belongs to teyvat or Kahnriah

@@lyn6852 yeah, it is complicated. I do believe, like them, that the travelers belong to Teyvat, more specifically the Old World. I have a whole video discussing Ashikai's Theory and this is one of the topics. Since the Old World is outside, like a normal planet, Forbidden Knowledge can exist there, that's why the travelers, or at least Lumine, have it. Teyvat, the microcosm in which we play, is just something like a nursery for humanity that was created to shelter people while the Primordial One fought the dragons and fixed their Original Planet (the Old World). What I mean to say is that both the Primordial One and the travelers (and probably the Heavenly Principles as well) came from the Old World. So, both other people's theories and mine can be mixed together.

The traveller just don't remember anything from 500 yrs old after going to teyvat, right? (Or not?) It means that they should have memories before going to teyvat? Like what they said to Paimon about the travels from different world?

@@lyn6852 yeah, that's actually what's troubling me the most. The traveler is supposed to know his own past since he remembers traveling to different planets with his sister to find a place to call home, so there's nothing wrong with his memory, really. Still, it's like he doesn't know things... Or he's just not saying them? The only solution would be that they were born on Old Teyvat but they had to leave when they were still babies, so they wouldn't have memories because of their age....

You know I wouldn't be surprised if we never hear the phrase "forbidden knowledge" in the game again. Hey is there a timeline for this video? There's a lot of this happens then this happens and it got quite confusing in there. I guess I'll have to put one together.

Wo you think that they will never name forbidden knowledge again, the one thing that caused the cataclysm.... I don't know what you mean by a timeline for a video, I have chapters. If you mean an actual written timeline, then I don't have it, I've never done this for any of my videos.

@@ShadowXImpact I know you haven't but I have written timelines for your videos in some cases. Because they give me such a headache. And it's gonna / has taken me about 2 hours. But to answer your question above the reason is that Forbidden Knowledge is somehow only existing within Sumeru in some sense like nowhere else has Eleazar or Withering. It might be a Sumeru local story.

@@DavidJohnson-ib1dh yeah, the biggest consequences of forbidden knowledge are obviously to be expected where it was used the most, so a corrupted Irminsul, which is below Sumeru, the desert where Deshret used it and the Girdle of the Sands where more or less Khaenri'ah was located. There are 3 more nations still, so I wouldn't be so sure it won't appear again, not something this relevant to the main story: Khaenri'ah's destruction.

If all descenders possessed FK, the traveler would be a litteral walking tumor, so it's unlikely in my opinion. The PO also arrived and did not bring any of the FK with him....her??? But was able to wipe the floor with the dragons who were using it. But had a hard time against the 2nd throne who have no mention of having any if I'm correct

the thing is that the first heir from the battlepass is shown to have been corrupted by something that does look like Forbidden Knowledge and Lumine did bring Forbidden Knowledge to Teyvat, which caused the Cataclysm. Considering that Forbidden Knowledge doesn't belong to Teyvat and it's something that comes from outside, it should be safe to assume that a person who arrives from outside Teyvat, is likely to have Forbidden Knowledge but, if they don't use it, everything's okay. About Aether, the fact that he isn't a ticking bomb is maybe due to the fact that Susty sealed away his power, which may have been Forbidden Knowledge. About the PO, this is something I talked about in my video about Ashikai's theories, he (well, it's going to be a woman, we all know it) may be originally from the Old World, the real Teyvat, so he may either not have Forbidden Knowledge at all. It is hinted in Before Sun and Moon that he came back to the Old World, meaning that he left from there in the beginning. The Dragons, then, didn't have Forbidden Knowledge. They had to acquire it to fight the Heavenly Principles (not the PO), so it seems that the Old World actually doesn't have Forbidden Knowledge, which may be the reason why the Second who came, if they actually used Forbidden Knowledge like I theorized since they're Descenders, had been able to defeat or send the PO running.

@@ShadowXImpact Yes I agree that lumine got 'deceived' by the Sinner, but the FK existed way before her arrival in Teyvat. Also the color and feeling that the FK gave off it quite the opposite of what all the characters ans npcs say about the traveler. Aether should have recognize it if it was similar to his old abilities. for me anyway (Dark powers are often purple or red with a black shade) Also the lumine we saw at the beginning and the one in "We will be reunited"use 2 differents powers (or at least not totally the same) when she summon her sword at the beginning she don't have that purple energy from the Archon quest. Still unsure of the PO and HP being 2 different entity or the same. But I see them as the same until we got more evidences (because Nahida said that the HP are the first descender) As for the dragons their fight should have happened before the 2nd arrival, and the Heavens reign was already established so it would have been hard for him to give them FK to the dragons

@@hirods9889 I think we have different interpretations of the whole story... The one deceived by, potentially, the sinner and used forbidden knowledge that I was talking about was the first Heir of the Kingdom among the Heavens, the one from the battlepass, and she's definitely not Lumine. Both her and her brother are shown in front and behind dragonspine when it was a lush mountain, so they arrived on Teyvat during the Envoy Age, before the celestial nails were sent down. Connecting that to what Apep told us, which happened before the end of the Envoy Age (because she was stopped by the descent of a celestial nail and they all arrived at the same time), I could say I'm pretty sure that whatever the first Heir did, had to do with Forbidden Knowledge, which opened rifts in Teyvat and almost destroyed it and, as Nahida told us, the Nails were sent down to fix those rifts. About the color, I think that FK could be identified with that warm shade of purple that we see in the battlepass when we see both the snake and the first Heir after she was corrupted. The cold shade of purple, instead, is abyssal power, the sinner's color basically. I do make a difference between the Primordial One and the Heavenly Principles/Second who came for multiple reasons: If the Heavenly Principles were the Primordial One, they would have saved the people of Enkanomiya. Apep wouldn't have talked about the winners earning the right to shape Teyvay as they saw fit because the Primordial One shaped Teyvat as he saw fit to begin with, since Phanes created it in the first place, so it has to be someone else with a different plan in mind. Nabu Malikata did make a clear difference between the Master of the Heaven, so the one who is currently ruling Celestia, and she said to "also" not look for the Master of the Shades, so they're two different entities. The Second who came has never been said to have Forbidden Knowledge, yes, but that's the "theory" part of my video. It's just my deduction from everything we know so far and, to me, it makes a lot of sense and it solves a lot of problems if that was true. Still, it's just a theory XD

@@ShadowXImpact not the whole story but we have definitely a different view of some key points. But that what's interesting I have a tendency to believe the more 'important' narrators. Even if they don't know everything or may have ommited some details nothing they said was a lie. Again I unsure about the PO and HP being 2 or 1 but that like a 40/60% situation. Even I have scenarios where they are 2 differents things but lack of solid evidence. As for the BP that way too fitting the twins situation to be a coincidence, plus Venti saying ''this is the story of your journey, of your Tell to be told''. Still theories though xD

Yeah, that's why I'm doing some recap videos lately. I feel like we need to remember what we learned so far to be able to comprehend what were going to experience in Fontaine. Sumeru Was a VERY LONG nation, with tons and tons of new things from the past. It was kinda overwhelming, but we got closer to a better understanding of what really happened in Teyvat, especially during the Cataclysm.
