@@amyrenee1361 The scriptures must be *read* in context, ie, don't "cherry pick" verses which you then twist to say what you want them to say. Read the whole passage, or the whole book to understand the main point, to grasp the author's intent, and get the flow of it all before you try to interpret it. It's God's Word, and He will direct you as you read, through His Holy Spirit. He *intends* us to understand what He has communicated to us. So, read it in context, rather than taking "proof texts" out of context, and misinterpreting and misapplying them. 😁😁😁

I love what I do and am usually excited to minister but always want a nap in the early afternoon. I can do heavy manual labor for 10-12 hours, gutting a house, and don't feel half as tired as ministering for 6-8 hours. Thanks for helping me discern this an so much more from scripture. I went and worked part time at a WOF “Church”. My husband worked full time, AND still works there. WE were told during crazy “FAITH WEEK” work hours that we are NOT to say we are tired, but rather “ We are on fire”! Not to say we are sick, but healed, and healed people go to work WHICH is ALWAYS 6 days there and 1 at home UNLESS there are events at the church, which was almost always. AND I weep at hearing this message as so. I missed so much in my young life and it damaged our family and my kids deeply. The Pastor and his wife were wealthy from the church and the teachings and if we were not, we lacked faith and looked to them, or our job, and not God for increase, AND my husband was salaried no matter who many crazy hours, and I was told they do not pay over time, ever. I ca’t even begin to state the sadness, and I finally left. He remains and now all our children are adults.

They sat in the green grass. “The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake.” ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭23:1-3‬ Too big of a stretch?

Lol that might be a stretch. What isn't a stretch however is the typology and even the proof of the divinity of Christ in that psalm. I really love the argument you make that the Apostles weren't Apostles until they went out and began preaching and teaching the Gospel to the people. This is so crucial to understand! We can have Faith to follow Jesus Christ and that is important, but we don't truly become His disciples until we get to work and do the things He did, teaching the things He taught. That's when our Faith is completed through our works. Not that our works have any power to save us, but that they are the proof that the Word of God has wrought a change in our hearts and made us new men. Thank you Pastor Mike! God Bless!

Very good Mike Winger! We are doing the Bible Recap and reading in the first books of the Old Testament, where Moses and the manna were. I had not connected the feeding of the 5,000 with Moses being a prophet and Jesus showing He was THE prophet. So cool how God wraps everything up - even to where there were 12 baskets left for 12 hungry disciples. Everything about the timing and the Passover went over my head too! Thank you for the historical context and background that makes this passage so much more deep and clear!

The end of this when your talking about them not getting it that they're trying to use Christ to accomplish their means reminds me a lot of what is going on today in the political culture a week before the 2024 election. Look how beautifully the movement and actions of Jesus can display meaning in words. Hallelujah, He is the Word of God! Love your teaching Mike, but I differ when it comes to the tradition of "blessing the food'. In Mark 6:41 it says that Jesus "blessed and broke the loaves", but doesn't say what or whom he blessed. In Matthew 26:26, during the Last Super, it says Jesus "took bread and blessed and broke it" then it says of the wine, "He took the cup and gave thanks". Some translations will add "it" italicized to indicate what he is blessing the bread, but that is editorializing. The custom Israelite prayer recited prior to eating, as you mentioned, was "Blessed are you O Lord our God, King of the Universe, who brings forth bread from the earth". In this prayer, the thing being blessed isn't the bread, but the person of God. God is being praised for the provision. Because the translators assumed the bread was being blessed and adding the "it" to the scripture, the tradition of blessing the food has developed. In light of all this, I've chosen to stop the habit of blessing the food. When I "say the blessing", I give thanks to God and praise (bless) Him for His provision.

It’s about knowing what is important at the time and space you are at. Like the timing of when they should fast after the ascension and not when the bridegroom was present. Like when spikenard a very expensive perfume was used for prepping for burial. Like pulling your donkey out of a ditch on the sabbath. There is a hierarchy to our actions and the higher valued action takes precedence over the established norms. Like if your hand offends you cut it off.

There must be meaning to the 12 baskets. Jesus made it so that there were 12 baskets left. He had total control over the amount of food that would be left, because He is God. He decided to make it that there were 12 baskets left; there must be a reason He did that. Because His choice to do it is in the Word of God.

Friends visited a local church a day the associate pastor was preaching a message on the feeding of the 5,000. They almost walked out on the message. She took the actual miracle out of the story by saying....don't you think the people knew they would get hungry and put some fruit and figs and fish in their garments. Then when they got seated they all began to pull the food out of their garments and shared. You see the real miracle was that when people generously share with each other the needs are met. She then went on to talk to the congregation about digging in to give to their annual financing campaign. BLASPHEMY!!!

Only the 2nd time in the series that I had a real problem here. I’m a believer in that the food was shared by the people there. Not that God couldn’t make it happen, but because creating bread out of thing air means nothing, but creating people who come together and share their resources is a beautiful thing. If the miracle means that Jesus can make bread, that’s cool. But if it means he can unite the people of the Earth, then that’s a bigger miracle than the firs T

It seems that the deity of Jesus is one personage of the sovereign God. Could it be that the triune God's will is all powerful and all things are done to it; Creation, Salvation, Election, and Miracles ?

In looking deeply in this scripture, I have come to accept the loaves of bread represents the Word of God, or more specifically the laws given by God. Since the laws from the Old Testament was presented by Moses in the flesh, meaning that they were etched in stone physically, it makes sense that Jesus compared the manna brought down from heaven with the living bread, which is the bread of life, which is the Spirit of Jesus. This accounts for why Jesus warned against the leaven from the Scribes and Pharisees and the Sadducees because yeast creates holes in the dough much the way those hypocrites created loopholes about the laws presented by Moses. I am a bit confounded, though, by the two small fishes, to which I think signifies Jesus’ disciples who were sent two by two to evangelize in order to bring those people for the gathering that took place, with bread and fish acting as the nourishment for those who were hungry for learning more. This is why I think the twelve baskets were full. I am also not sure why the number 5,000 men plus women and children were used. It just seems to be a very important number for some reason, but if someone can provide a real true answer that is pliable, then I will greatly appreciate it.

Hi Mike... Wanted to get your outlook on how a Christian should respond to something like this. A friend and I were discussing if I had a child and he was playing with a doll would I take it away form him and only let him play with boy toys. I told her I wasn't sure but felt immediately convicted and changed my answer to no I would encourage boy toys. She said she would not do this if she had a son ( without a doubt) then it shifted into would you let your son wear a dress for fashion reasons not for sex choice reaosns . I said no I would never because it's a sin. Because the Bible says for men to not wear women's clothes plainly. And other biblical reasons, saying not to be conformed by this world. Her argument was if it's for fashion reasons how is it a sin, and repeatedly said she thinks it's very grey in the Bible. I had also said if my son wanted to wear a dress as a child who's brain isn't fully developed yet as a parent why would I allow any confusion or temptation in their hearts more than the world already does. Her reply was, if your son loved the color orange are you going to tell him it's not and he's wrong because he's not developed? After all this the subject shifted into something light hearted and we tried to shake it off. Ive been working on my relationship with God and felt like I did a poor job in the discussion. How would you respond? You should make a video on this is you feel compelled. Thank you.

She's got a deeper issue she's not being honest about. Sounds to me her issue is with God, not you, and she's defiant. God made male and female, and we must respect each as such. A guy wearing a dress in the fashion world is giving God the middle finger, so to speak. It's very disrespectful of women. There are clothes specific to each sex, and for a reason. There is nothing wrong for you to lovingly stick to your convictions. In fact, we'd better because if we don't, then what example will our little ones follow? Boys and girls will gravitate toward sex appropriate toys and activities. Don't worry if they don't. I played football in the streets with my brothers, climbed trees and scaled walls, loved sports, and hated dolls. But, I had no sisters, daddy was never home, mom was working, and I had no other example or girls to play with. Thank God that was in the 70s. Otherwise, some teacher in school would've transitioned me. I'm a happy woman, and being a wife and mother has been the greatest joy of my life.

How does someone find a group of people that go out and minister in Christ's name as a mission? I WANT TO go out and spread God's word but I can't do it by myself (I've tried) I believe that I would grow more and really learn how to effectively minister to others if I were involved in a more missional type of group or church. My life is not following the pattern that the the Word says that it should be and it discourages me. I'm always tired but not in the way I should be (tired of doing something for the Lord). My love for people is suffering with all of the stress in the world, I'm increasingly disliking people instead of growing more compassionate?

You only need the blood of Christ for salvation and not the RCC. Nor does the pope have any authority. Jesus is the High Priest and we go directly to him. Read the Bible and ignore the Catechism

Could you tell me why? I'm an ex Catholic. Someone I know joined the Catholic church recently. She fell in love with a Catholic, and the rest is history. But they do make it a point to keep the emphasis on Jesus as Savior. I left the RCC because while I was raised in the church, attended parochial school, never once did any priest, nun, nor my teachers ever tell me why Jesus hung on the cross. It blows my mind that as a Catholic, I had no idea about eternal life. Isn't that why Jesus came? To be the propitiation for my sins, so that whoever believes would be saved? What good is any church if they aren't at least teaching the gospel?

I heard an interesting theory for the meaning of the number 12 in the feeding of the 5000 and the 12 baskets of leftover bread, and the number 7 in the feending of the 4000 and the 7 baskets of leftover bread. The bread represents Jesus, the bread of life, giving himself to the people, to give them eternal life. The 12 would represent Israel, as in the 12 tribes, and the 7 would represent the Gentiles, as in the 7 nations of the land of Canaan that the Jews had to drive away to possess the promised land. They are mentionned in Deuteronomy 7:1. So Jesus gives eternal life to Israel and the Gentiles. It does make sense I find.

Hmmm. I'm not really sure what your asking. When it comes to your last sentence about self-sacrifice and persecution: "what if it's not true?" Is this a general question applying to believers in general or to the first apostles?

Have you ever heard it said that the 12 baskets represent the 12 tribes of Isreal and the bread represents the Word of God that goes out to all the earth and the remnants of bread are those that hear the word of God and come back to Him? The remnant is a solid theme throughout all of Scripture, I just think its interesting.

The single parent (perhaps a better label is a parent who has been abandoned by their spouse) lives an impossible life. I've worked multiple jobs to make ends meet, my kids getting less of mom, and then on top of that I'm still expected to put out, at church, social sertings, etc, and never have the time to rest, or think of my needs. Then what? Impossible. Does the church come alongside to help? Rarely. Crickets.

I can relate. I learned too late that I didn't have to meet all those expectations. Looking back now, I can see how and where I would have drawn lines differently. Your immediate family, the ones you care for (including yourself), is your first ministry. Be bold and say no to those expectations that demand with no return. Be blessed and remember that it really is as hard as it seems and not as easy as others make it out to be.
