Thank you Ricky ! Question: I have been told a great option is treck sandals for the Camino during summer when it could get very hot. They are suppose to solid, light, and great to prevent feet problems. What do you think ? Luke
@caminotellers Жыл бұрын
I think that thanks to science and new technologies, the optimum shoes for long walking with backpack are TRAIL RUNNERS. if you can get yourself any which are sandals, but with this thick sole, it would be great for summer season. Trekking sandals are good but the sole is sometimes hard and it could affect you long walks. It's a personal choice. hope it helps, hugs

Thanks for the tips! I have been braking in a pair of waterproof low cut Quecha hikers rated for multi-days. (I had an old pair of same size 44.) With a sock liner and wool sock it feels snug yet I can still spread my toes. No case of blisters since. More breaking in will just be right and comfortable just like the old pair.

Hello! I've been watching a few of your videos - they are super helpful! We've been dreaming of doing Camino for years now, and are finally at a point where we might get to actually go! I have a couple questions if you don't mind: 1. How difficult is it to get by speaking only English? We are Canadian and know basic French-Canadian, but I don't know if that would even help much in France. 2. One of the people in our group has a severe allergy to peanuts - what's the food situation like on Camino? Are there grocers/shops to just buy food in the towns vs. trying to communicate an allergy in restaurants/cafes? 3. Are the Caminos fairly safe for female travellers - along the trail, or in albergues? Have you seen/heard of any issues? Recommendations? Maybe you've already addressed these in other videos and I just haven't watched them yet! Appreciate any wisdom you could share :) Thank you!!
@caminotellers2 жыл бұрын
Hi! how are you? thanks for contacting ! The language barrier is not an issue, as most of people are able to comunicate( maybe not fluently but enough to go around). Regarding the Food allergy, there are plenty of shops that you can supply in food you prefare and many bars in restaurants have menu cards with allergy indicators. But you can always get the food in supermarket for one or two days. ( btw, the Santiago's cake is 100% almond, be careful...) and the safety, you would be surprised how many single woman is walking the camino... It's a safe environment! hope I could share some info, for more, please see the specific videos! hope you will have an amazing journey, hugs

Hi Ricky. Thank you for the video. I am doing the Primitivo from Oviedo starting in October, so maybe be rain and low temperatures. I run with minimalistic shoes. Should I go for minimalistic Goretex shoes? Goretex boots? Or normal minimalistic and change the socks when they get very wet?
@caminotellers2 жыл бұрын
Hakuna Matata! How are you? Primitivo in October will be rainy and chilly, geographically speaking, as I’m not a weather man ;) and considering steep downhills you will need some extra protection… I did a video about Vivobarefoot tracker shoes, checking them on Apalation trail. It is a Minimalistic gem, but if you find any fast drying alternative it doesn’t have to be waterproof. Next camino I’m planing probably will be barefoot ;)

I was hoping you were going to cover hiking sandals, like Teva's for example. I know someone who has done two Camino's in these type of sandals. I decided to buy a pair and I have been training with them and they are nice! I am also bringing a pair of trail runners for bad terrain days, but I plan to do most of the hike with the Teva hiking sandals. Thoughts? Thanks!

Hi Mark! I know people who do their camino in crocs, and they enjoy it, the same as the teva sandals, that are common too. I could not include all of the models, but rather divided it into types of shoes. I'm sure you will be fine, especially as you are already training with them. Buen camino

Hey Ricky! I'll have my first Camino in 3 weeks, and, due to many ppl being there and coming from different backgrounds, it will be very short. It's just a week, on the final part of the French trail (I know, reeeeally bad way of organizing and living the Camino, but I couldn't say no to the organizer). We'll go from Sarria to Santiago. I usually hike on mountain trails so I have a very good pair of Hiking boots (Dolomite) that have already lasted 2 yrs and still are in amazing conditions. Which shoes would you advise me to bring and wear? Thanks to anyone who will help me and especially to you Ricky for your AMAZING videos!! ❤️🏕️
@caminotellers2 жыл бұрын
Abby! Sorry for the late answer, I’ve just finished the Salt Satyagraha in India and I’m in some remote place right now… the Sarria santiago is not a demanding hike, rather a walk in the nature with the various type of ground, form the sand to asphalt, and the rocky straight road. It’s made for all ages and there are only few stepper hills to climb. If you feel comfortable with your hiking boots, use them, however there is no need for the heavy gear in this Path. The most important that you have already trusted shoes and you are correctly taking care of the feet(drying them after hot sweaty days of waking and if rushes or blister are to be seen, apply the Vaseline ASAP ;) enjoy your amazing trip , hugs

@caminotellers2 жыл бұрын
Hi Mr :) how are you? Sarria santiago is fairly easy walk so it does not require boots like when climbing the Everest, and considering the long ours of walk I would definitely go for more soft option , like train runners. But this is one thinking that I would reconsider: seeing the foot specialist doctor to make you special soles if necessary or/and use these new shoes for some time before walking! It will give a confidence of how and where to step! See you on the Way ;)

Take off your shoes and socks when you take a break. Your feet will cool down. Your shoes will dry out etc. No blisters for me as this is what I did. My feet loved me everytime. My husband had awfull blisters...eventually he took my advice. Also a light pair of sandals is a good idea to give your feet a break. Relax, it's a good walk not a hike. (mostly)

Why one size bigger,would that increase rubbing from ill fitment?
@caminotellers2 жыл бұрын
One size bigger as the feet will swollen after first kilometers. The second reason is that every time you go downhill you won't smash your toes into the shoes, which can by deadly if the stage is long and steep! The rubbing is not as present as the shoes is well fitted in the midsole. This is what people from the profesional shop explained me few times and I have double checked it in Caminos :)
