Because I am a really slow walker and wanted to stay in albergues that offered communal meals, or were unique, I emailed all of them in Feb. and reserved a bed. I found one in San Sol, called Albergue Karma, that offered single beds for 6€, and he made dinner for us for 8€ p.p. and served us in a cool, stone cellar. What a deal!!! It pays to look around and reserve sometimes, especially if you are slow or older or want a more unique experience. For municipals, do stay at the one in Azofra! Single beds and only 2 people to a room, with a big locker for your pack.

This is a very good overview of albergues on the Camino de Santiago. There are many different types, of course. I think it's worth trying different types of albergue. I am happy to hear things have opened back up again. I did part of the Norte in September 2021 and I had to sleep outside a few times. I moved to the Frances, which was worse, as it was cold outside. So cut short my trip as I didn't have proper gear to be sleeping in the elements and spent way over my budget. Wanting to return this fall and probably do the Portuguese. Thank you for sharing your experiences and tips.

Thank you @CaminoTellers for all the very helpful camino advice. I'd sincerely appreciate your thoughts: To what extent do you think wild camping or camping in campgrounds is possible on the Camino Frances? My partner and I are experienced lightweight backpackers and already have our gear and would enjoy being able to camp part of the time and to occasionally stay in albergues and hotels. And do you think it would it be possible to do this while still meeting up with new friends for meals in town? We've also heard horror stories about how noisy some of the albergues can be at night, making it impossible to sleep, so that a tent for a good part of the time seems even more attractive (would you agree)?
@caminotellers Жыл бұрын
Leigh! We invite you for todays Live streaming session, and we will talk about Camping and albergues as it is not all so straight forward! In few words, the wild camping is forbidden in Spain, so you will have to go by the official campsite…

Are alburgies still available to me? Are outlets readily available? Or do I need tobplan on using hotel rooms instead? Will it make more sense to use a porter because of the added weight? Thoughts on this topic are appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Howdy! Just found your channel here, and I love it! You're a fantastic storyteller, man! I adore your vids! I'm considering taking a Camino del norte at the end of March/April. Yet I have a wrecked back, and even after backpacking Camino in my country, on the 3rd day, I couldn't continue because of the pain (I was carrying a max of 6 kg with me). But I love mountains! I have done hut-to-hut hiking for 5 days with no problem in Italy, just carrying a couple of clothes to change into and no 2nd pair of shoes or sleeping bag or anything heavy. And I really need some time for myself now... Do you know if it's possible to get a bed (not for 50 euros) in an albergue in March/April without a sleeping bag and travel camino del norte with a 30 l backpack? Also, at this moment, I'd really need some human interaction. Do you know If there will be people on the way to share a talk or a drink with? THANK YOU!

If you stay in municipal and donation based albergues we would recommend sleeping bag(for colder seasons) and sleeping liner(for summer season). I got three weeks off (from 16th of december) and I'm thinking about walking it - BUT it's christmas time - Of course it won't be busy at all and much will be closed, I guess. What would be your advice for a camino newby? :) Best regards - Marina, greatings from Austria.

Hi Marina! How are you? That’s for contacting! I never walked the camino Portuguese during Christmas… during my walks I would normally stay in mixture of public hostels and private. So it’s a matter of checking few in the places where you wish to stop(more or less) emailing them and you will know perfectly! Probably the first one contacted will tell you what is the situation on the camino( which are open or close etc), this would be my advice. And shops? There are always things open, obviously less but always. :) I hope it could help… try it ;)
