As an INFP, it's super frustrating how unintentionally hypocritical I am. I spend all day worrying about being judged by others, but all the while I'm actively judging others. I'll think, "I really hope this specific popular girl doesn't think I'm stupid, but if she does that's just because she's a close-minded jerk who thinks she's better than everyone else." I've had countless conversations with my mom where she asks why I never try to make new friends, and my response is literally: "Because I know these people think I'm stupid and will judge me." The reason I think they'll judge me is because I'm judging them by assuming they're the type to judge. It's super annoying and hard to correct, but I'm working on it, and I know I'm not the only one.

It's because when we're being us, it doesn't feel genuine enough. It feels like we're still not being true and trying to hide ourself in fear of being judge for and by the saying of "just be yourself" we think that maybe the problem is that we're not being truer enough so that's why we try to be ourself even more, maybe if we let our light shine people would like it more? No they don't. I learned It the hard way and now I'm just pretending to be an empty hussle from being force to live in boarding school with 16 dormmate.

Early in our marriage (around the five year mark) after a long day of fielding constant criticism from my INTJ spouse, I demanded a compliment. Just one. He sulked in our room for two hours before he came up with one (which in itself kinda ticked me off - IS IT REALLY THAT HARD, OMG), but it was worth the wait: he said "I admire your ability to learn so much through other people". This is the distinction you're addressing, I think - over the years my husband has realized that my people focus is not so much a distraction from "more important things" as a means of side loading the experiences and perspectives of others IN ORDER TO gain that information I might otherwise forever be missing. It's a difference in starting points - and make no mistake I appreciate his helping me not to get lost in the weeds, which I can definitely do - but my processes still build towards the same intuitive goals: you have to let them run their course. -ENFJ

He has to get his words right. In my experience, INTJ’s consider every assumption and application of every phrase they say. They wouldn’t say something flattering and fleeting, like, “you look lovely”. What does that even mean, when does it apply, when doesn’t it apply? If they even consider your beauty, they would, toss out the idea as frivolous . You probably did look lovely, your skin smelled good, you had a flattering haircut, and the last meal you prepared was delicious, but are any of those defendable facts he could debate successfully with a neutral person?

The hardest time I have ever had at any job was working for a boss who was focused on assigning blame to a person (sometimes me, sometimes other people), while I would often find that the system was at fault (improper training, warning documents removed from files, etc.). Soooo many arguments as I'd be like "The reason X incident happened were A, B, and C. A, B, and C need to be fixed to prevent X incident from reoccurring in the future, and here's how we can do that..." Meanwhile boss is like "Stop making excuses, take responsibility for your actions!" It was sooooooooooooooooo frustrating. I suspect the boss was an ESFJ. I am an INTJ. (I also actually have a psychiatric evaluation that I need to take less responsibility for things, as I do often blame myself ... which leads to me trying to figure out what mistakes I made and what systems I can implement to not make those mistakes again, but if the problem lies with existing system, then I need to fix that.) Anyway, this reminds me of that, though as you can see from the type conflict, there were probably lots of reasons my boss and I fought.
@aprilhelm5183 жыл бұрын
I get this issue a lot. I think the biggest reason I complain about others is because I feel they are so busy assigning blame (ironic, I guess) instead of trying to fix the system.

This gave me ptsd just from reading it. That person shouldn't have been a boss / manager. Incompetent managers either don't want to or are incapable of effectively troubleshooting and problem solving. Much less leading people effectively and taking responsibility for their management if others and processes and systems. That's my experience anyway. Best reason for working for yourself and / or becoming financially independent: Definition of a job can too often be doing stupid things for silly people.
@jenniferhanses42053 жыл бұрын
@@tinaperez7393 Thanks. While I had numerous problems with that boss, she had a lot of customer facing and promotions work that she was genuinely good at (thus my suspicions of the E and F). She was also skilled at physical tasks of the job. I won't even say she was bad at talking with the staff. She was mostly just bad at planning ahead or foreseeing consequences of actions. For example, we had colored warning sheets put on top of paperwork to indicate dangerous tasks (these changed daily, I'm trying not to talk about the actual job, so just trust me on this). The paperwork would then detail the dangers of the tasks. Most tasks were not dangerous and so didn't have a colored flag. Sometimes people would attach the colored flags to the wrong tasks if two tasks were put together and later separated. So it could be argued if you got hurt, it was your fault for not further reading the paperwork. However, we had limited time (like 10 minutes) to do 40 tasks. No one is stopping to read the paperwork unless it's flagged at that point because they've got stuff to do. That's just human nature and the nature of doing the same job every day. So training the night team to keep the paperwork together would have helped quite a bit. Her solution was to take away the flagging system to make us read the paperwork, and then reprimand us for taking 40 minutes to do our tasks. And during the speed reading, since things were not flagged, nor were issues always tracked in the same area, often notes were missed on these unflagged documents because we were still in a hurry and missed the critical hand written line that we would have searched for if it were flagged, and just figured it was a non-dangerous task.

I'm an INFP and my partner is an INFJ. When I ask about his day he tells me about his tasks, or events, or changes, and yes, technical issues if that was a thing. But, when he asks about my day, I tell him about my various interactions with people. My kids, clients, my doctor or dentist, and even fictional people in books or videos.
@shikhasuman8713 жыл бұрын
Oh that's what it's like y'know. Most people think, more like assume that sensitive people tend to keep crying or complaining but that's not the case. If a sensitive person is like that, then they're immature just like any other people. That happens more early on in sensitive and HSPs lives. But as they grow, they learn keep everything to themselves. They learn how different the world/people around opperate than them. In case with INFJs, it's the same. And obviously being sensitive doesn't mean you're sad all the time lol. INFJs wouldn't complain about problem unless they're really sure they wanna share it and people are ready and trustworthy. And about talking about tasks, events, and technical issues, yeah as an INFJ myself I do that too. Don't know why but I always first talk about what all major things that happened in my day, which often bores my INFP sister, even if she says she isn't bored. :] XD But I slowly get into talking about various interactions. This was super insightful AND entertaining! And it explains a lot, too: when my partner talks about his day, he always talks about his colleagues, his bosses and his clients for hours on end. Despite being very sociable, he gets overwhelmed by other people for being, well, different people; he has a really hard time understanding why/how others come to different conclusions, and it can cause him huge amounts of stress. On my end, when talking about work, I'll just leave it at "eh, another slow/busy day" or go on about a really boring or exciting project I'm working on. I was unsure whether I was an IxxP or an IxxJ because I do have some social anxiety, but I realize that, when it comes to everyday, non-traumatic situations, I really do put a lot more focus on things. I'll react way more strongly to plans falling apart or an overload of information/stimuli than to a social situation falling apart or a simple disagreement. Quite fascinating and even counter-intuitive. Instead of zeroing in a single polarity--like, who's an extrovert and who's an introvert--you located the Big Divide between opposite pairs of polarities. That seems, instinctively, right. It's not so much the "One Big Thing" as the superior-inferior spectrum, or "current", that your personality type buzzes along. And, as you say, it looks like there are two key "currents," rather radically different from each other. As you have notced a gazillion times, all of us have all the traits in some measure, even if some of us have some of them in infinitessimal measure. Plus, we are all capable of developing and indeed capitalizing quite successfully on our inferior functions (I, as an INFP, certainly have: life forced me to it, landing as I did in an academic environment). Yet with this video, Mr. James, it seems to me you have hit upon a factor that reveals the absolute limits of we-all-have-this-ness. If your personality type is buzzing back and forth along one of these spectrums, as it certainly is, you can never by the remotest stretch of the imagination buzz along its opposite spectrum. There is a Great Gulf Fixed. If you try to hop onto the opposite spectrum, it will tell you in no uncertain terms to...er...buzz off.

Interesting. My brother, an ENFP, references people all the time in conversation. Myself, as an ENTJ, I don't reference people and names as much as he does, but I do it too. I find it annoying when I'm reminded about characters I'm aware of after being exposed to the reality of their existence within the context of another person's insistent exposure of their own life. 'I heard you the first time. Your Boss, James, talks about things you don't care about. I got it!' LOL
@buchelaruzit3 жыл бұрын
I'm INTJ and I always could identify with ENTJ and saw it as just me but 'more intense in this way' and 'less intense in that way' since we have the same functions, just in slightly different order. In the same way I can fundamentally vibe with and love XNFPs, seeing the biggest difference bw them being extovert/introvert and N dom/F dom; the most important difference after N vs S is to me personally Fi/Te vs Fe/Ti (which need to be the same, having fundamentally similar values). Both XNFPs have Fi/Te as well so I couldn't see much of a difference otherwise. I attributed ENFP being 1st place with INFP 2nd place bc (well intuitively E and I are more compatible I guess but functions-wise) they're also N dom, but the difference talked about in this video is pretty insightful and interesting and by this criterion INTJ is on the same side as INFJ, ENTP and ENFP; INFP is on the other side. ENFP is the only one that "passes" in both cases. And in fact this is implied by them being N dom, it's correlated. That's pretty cool and insightful. And now that I think about it ENTJs do seem to care a lot about what other people think compared to me, that's a difference that I hadn't consciously noticed!
@loreta82493 жыл бұрын
Wow, very insightful. I agree, I think it is quite important for people to be on the same axis for judging functions (Fi/Te or Ti/Fe) in order to be more compatible. Also, I would say, from one point of view it's more compatible for people to be on the same view about things and people (IJs and EPs vs IPs and EJs) because it allows to understand each others struggles better, but from the other point of view maybe it's better to spend more time with someone who's on the other side, in order to balance out each other and show that none of these worries are as real as they seem to be. For example, an IP could calm an IJs anxiety about things not going as planned and an IJ could calm IPs social anxiety and open their eyes of the possibility that "it's just people, we're all the same in many ways, more or less". Anyway, this is just a side note from a people obessesed INFP, lol. You sound like a cool person, if you'd like to chat more about mbti, let me know haha:)

It drives me NUTS when people randomly mention the names of other people I don't know in conversation as if I should know them. Like "Oh, Charlie said the same thing, he was talking about that movie at work..." I'm like, excuse me, who is Charlie?? Especially if they don't preface it with "my co-worker" or something. If I know who they are, it's not annoying so much, but when I spend time hearing them referencing other people in their lives and saying "oh you know him! He's my old roommate! Oh my god he's hilarious" and then tell stories about them... It just makes me glaze over like... cool... let's talk about this person who I don't know...? Like I just don't understand how to build a conversation around that in any meaningful sense. :'''D I can't believe there is a video here where you are talking about it and it's actually related to my personality type. As an ENFP it's so contradicting. Having structure and routine turns me into a freaking superhero however it also makes me feel ill like it's my kryptonite. The way it works best is when structure or routine isn't applied to me externally, I have to create it and give it to myself. Many of my own plans and routines I make to be flexible, accounting for the worst but hoping for the best. It's like tricking yourself. I have tricked myself into having a very good internal clock by wearing a pocket watch to fidget with and because it's manual and I have to wind it, it makes me look at my phone's time more when I match it. Also I have an obsession with the concept of time in a more creative way so that kinda helps. I am always living out some sort of fantasy or story in my alone moments so making myself up to be some sort of time lord (I love Doctor Who) can help. Also I arrive everywhere early cuz I have somehow tricked myself into thinking on time is 40 min early and I panic about lateness when I am 5 min early. Also I have alarms on my phone to remind me to eat, to not stay up too late and about 10 for getting ready in the morning> Where was I? Ah, yes. So my point is I have to give the structure to myself but I have to make game out of it to stick to it and I have to stick to it because if god forbid I shower, brush my teeth and shave out of that order, I will doubt for the whole day if I did any of those. Now imagine if I do miss one, 3 years of structure gone in seconds, reduced to atoms

I think maybe it can just depend on where you fall along the personality spectrum (like what percentage of each function you are or if you’re close to the 50% line if I/E, S/N, T/F, J/P) or something like that and that we notice how systems affect people. I don’t have a super thought-out answer but I’ve seen one other comment so far saying what you’re saying also. And, I can definitely relate to becoming attached to the INFJ type as like a core part of your identity and feeling destabilized at the thought of doubting it lol 😅 Apparently, we are supposed to not get too attached to any certain personality type because it’s more of a gauge and it can make it more difficult to truly recognize your own traits but well, *much* easier said than done!! Well, you’re an intuitive (N) type, so of course you’re going to lend more towards intuitive thoughts. INFPs have secondary Ne, which is still very powerful. In fact, that's one of my main focuses in writing, even over plot and worldbuilding. Though, now I think about it, I tend to avoid bringing people up by name unless a conversation includes them or information I gleaned from them. For example, I run a Discord server with an ISFP friend of mine and we were talking about the kinds of people we've had to ban over the years, so I used a few usernames as shortcuts for the kinds of people who fell into that category. Such as using Tom (not his real name) to describe clingy teenage boys who constantly self-victimize and demand sympathy from everyone on a regular basis. We've banned a few Toms. I think she might be an INFP but she talks a lot about her interests and she's never afraid to show me them, so I'm not sure.

I’m just questioning my type now as an INFP because even though I have serious social anxiety I do worry a lot about the consequences of my actions especially since our types are known to be indecisive. We want to do the right thing and don’t want people to sabotage that so I’m guessing it’s half people half impact on things

I’m an INTJ married to an ENTJ, and it amazes me all the time how different we are. I analyze everything to death, and he prefers to just get things done. He knows the names and backgrounds of all of our neighbors even though he works full time, and I know the names of maybe three people. Did I mention I am a stay at home parent? 😂 It honestly all balances out. I will point out things he may not have considered in his haste to get things done, and he pulls me out of my analysis paralysis. We also have an understanding that he plays host and cooks when he wants guests over, and I help with the background details like making sure the guest room is fully prepared.

9:29 IxxP here, but also I do not update my phone for this very exact same reason lol~ I mean it works fine, I like how it is, it's fine, no need to potentially ruin everything lmao... Well if something like that happens and I couldn’t find a way to fix it back I'd probably find a way to accept that but I'd be really pissed and messed up for a time, haha... But I guess the difference from this example is that I don't actively worry about it nor focus on it, I just avoid doing it.

Haha, so true! Thanks! I thought there was something wrong with me until I did the MBTI (with an approved psychologist), and understood that it was personality traits. Can totally relate to "what if I miss some information😬?! I love to do schedules and budgets, but, I KNOW that I will not follow them.... Usually when I have to do something, I decide and plan to do something else, and then I often can do the first thing while trying not to notice that I do the thing I ought to. "know thyself" 😁

The nightmare: what if I missed some important piece of information about something: 😬🤯😱🧐 I agree that is the worst of all. How can deductions about what might happen and how things could unfold IF some important detail got missing?.... What if I am wrong because of this, then my contol freak side is dead. Then I go back to sink in much more details just in case it changes the bigger picture (INFJ). So true.

INFJ, here. (but also tested as INTJ and INFP in the past, but the majority of results are INFJ). Ya know... I gotta pause this after viewing a lot of your videos and ask: How are you able to speak your ideas so clearly? When I try to think of what to say, it's often not fast enough to keep up with conversation by the time I figure out the ideal response. And I can't seem to explain myself. Like, at all. To anyone. Ever. >.>' Or maybe you just do several takes of footage. That is probably what I would do, I suppose. Or maybe you think for a long time about what to say and then practice it in your head and then finally film it. I guess it kinda looks easy from the viewer perspective, since we only see the final result. So it seems impressive and almost magical to me that you're an INFJ who can actually explain things very well. I like the videos, to be clear. I hope this doesn't come across as a weird post. Thank you.

This explains why I comparison-shop forever whenever I buy new tech. Then I stick with a given brand if I find it reliable, even if something actually better is available. (INTJ) Also, why I keep rooting for the New York Jets even though they've sucked for years and there's no hope in sight. (I'm writing this as the Jets are losing to the Houston Texans and looking absolutely incompetent in the process.)

Wow, I learned a lot! I’m an ISFJ who recently started hanging out with an ESFJ and was wondering, why are we so radically different with just one letter change? She does tend to bring up people while I bring up things. This video really helped me “get it.”

As an INTJ I never update my apps because WHAT IF IT CHANGES AND I CANNOT USE IT IN THE WAY I WAS USED TO???? I think you got a point, bud.
@angelbear_og3 жыл бұрын
You mean "update"? Because yes. They WILL "enhance the user experience" and it WILL result in it not functioning properly. The only thing that makes me angrier is when the dipshits across the road run their car stereo so loud that it vibrates my windows from a quarter mile away at 11:30 pm.( And THAT I will eventually get over!) Haven't let my phone update in at least a year. And it's at least 4 years old.
@leticiaremonti3 жыл бұрын
@@angelbear_og oh my, YES: I meant "update" and I corrected already. Thank you. And yes: the improvement is always for the worst and besides that I like taking things for granted... once I get used to the way things work I like sticking to it. Why to change what is already fine? Haven't we got bigger World issues to fix? Why to waste time, money and energy on something that already is usable? What a lack of priority...

Infj, same problem here! I don't trust softwares updates. When necessary I surrender and accept them, but every time I get very anxious and while I'm waiting I'm thinking to all the possible ways to proceed if the update creates problems. Before launching them I obviously do a preemptive backup 😅.
@Diaming7872 жыл бұрын
Same here! I turned off automatic updates for a reason. However, because of that, sometimes it won't function, such as not receiving notifications when it was working perfectly before independent of the update. Other times, it just always nags me to update. So in either case, I lose!! DAMN IT!!!

INTP here. We try to consider what other people think because for years, I mean since childhood, it's been hammered into our heads that we are inconsiderate of others. In my case, that I am waaayyy too far into my own head and am oblivious of social conventions on social interaction. What I will say is this, I will not entertain an opinion from someone I feel is an idiot. Also, I will start out trying to include people, explaining what it is I am doing if it involves said people, but should they not give me valid reasons to change my approach or do not listen to my line of reasoning, they no longer matter. I guess this is what's called doubling down?

You probably don't - it is too easy to convince yourself you have problems - that is what the industrial psychology complex feeds from. Learn more about who Christ is - there is no better offering than knowing his love. The psychology/psychiatry complex gets you wrapped around the axles. They deny the most fundamental Truth about life, from the start. They find human-centered problems and solutions instead of Godly solutions. All the best, hope you find true Peace.
@superstylemeblog3 жыл бұрын
I wonder this, too, and I’m a lot older than 16.😂 I’m no expert, but your MBTi doesn’t exist in a bubble. It’s just a piece of the puzzle. You may find out you weren’t as off with your self evaluation as you thought, I’m an INFP and I was wondering if being depressed and adhd influenced my answers, but the INFP stuff shows up in healthier ways when I have things under control. Personally I think you have to see yourself when you’re both feeling healthy and unhealthy to see if it all tracks.
@boldcautionproductions92033 жыл бұрын
@Elise S OK, I won't tell people religion can cure conditions. That is also not what I said. Religiosity does not satisfy. Surrendering to Christ does. It is in the fabric of life - it is not an option.
@boldcautionproductions92033 жыл бұрын
@Elise S The problem is you, like the world, deny who Christ is. He is not a patch. He is the real thing, pretty much the ONLY real thing. You should stop preaching mumbo jumbo. Granted, people need help sometimes, there is damage and disease. But the psychology/psychiatry complex just patches and patches for $$$. Tell me it isn't so.
