Haha neither- ENFP. My way of connecting with others is sharing my ideas or like asking them hypothetical questions to get a conversation going and things that I find super interesting, also humour is 100% the way I connect. I had a sleepover with my INTP friend yesterday and we spent like 90% of the time talking about hypotheticals or ideas and analysis of things. The other 10% was ranting (we went from deep to what makes us angry between like 4am and 5. Then at 6 it was back to like hypotheticals, or like analysing structures. Like we spent half an hour analysing the social hierarchy of high school and how even after you leave in any social setting you have the same groups, and like what might make someone popular, and just like thinking about why that was. Super interesting. I have two INTP friends and we can just analyse, debate and discuss hypothetical scenarios and ideas for hours and hours (though fine tend to be a bit more flavourful than theirs) And we bounce off each other with jokes and stuff. My friendship group In general is just great for that (2x INTP, Me-ENFP, ISTJ and an INFJ) though the ISTJ gets tired with our hypotheticals after a bit.

But yet if someone is telling a story or she’s talking about her day she will explain every detail in what I imagine to her is an organised way that is normally chronological and thought out. Another thing about the INTPs and ENTPs is that it's totally okay to compete with us in those intellectual games. Like, if you disagree (or wanna play Devil's Advocate) and we get into a friendly argument, that's fun. Let's butt heads and get to know each other better!
@freregregoire26853 жыл бұрын
Yeah, for ENTPs it seems like often they even want you to disagree with them... Us INTPs usually want to look at things from several different points of views to really understand them, and bounce ideas to see how they develop, and that's not gonna happen if you are agreeing about everything I say from the get go (even when I'm right).
@ShaleNinja3 жыл бұрын
YES. Especially once older and a little softer. A lot of fun and even more respect is gained from someone introducing a new perspective, or from a more educated/experienced position. As an INTP my first thought is "oh lawd, I'm going to get smoked" followed by "but I win, because I exit with more knowledge" and usually have a new person that I deeply respect for it. Challenge me, I enjoy it! One of the best parts of the challenge/compete is being forced to analyse a position. Why do I hold this position? Are there gaps in the scaffolding of my understanding? Have I had this wrong the whole time? Or is the exercise going to introduce someone else to a more structured and diverse understanding of the thing? Realising the what and how of an ENTP has been incredibly invaluable for rounding out this trait. Y'all just wanna tackle things from every angle for the sheer intellectual pleasure, and it feels like a fantastic opportunity to join in the fun and rev the engines for once instead of "Have you tried turning it off and back on again..."
@einavherman74593 жыл бұрын
Yes exactly! As an ENTP I love to hear each others point of views since it helps me understand other people's prespectives Contrary to what many think, ENTP do not seek arguements for the sake of it, we do not wish for you to disagree with anything we say (but nor otherwise as well, we only want your honest opinion). It's just that we enjoy exploring the subject from several opinions, and try to encorage you to do so as well. Since usually there are no right or wrong opinions I see the talk about them as a debate rather than an arguement. But when someone disagree with a fact or says something to others with no experience in the subject I'll start oppose him/her right away. It's crazy how many people don't acknowledge you need to learn about something before you can talk about it.

It's not manipulation as the youtuber labels it. It's just fitting in with people around, to keep that social connection with them, afloat. There is no manipulation of others and no manipulation of oneself, only just a small change in feelings, to make others feel more comfortable. You very well-know and feel what you actually feel and when you are able to express it as well to others, but many people I have seen MANY times, were faking their expressions as well. Doesn't mean you have to be an INFJ to fake emotions. The when part is important to infj,that is not discussed here, instead it is labelled as manipulation instead, because that's how he has viewed it, doesn't mean that is the truth and reality with many other different types of infjs who are certainly different from him.

INFJ here, this is exactly why people think I’m good at talking to others. It’s because I know how people want me to respond, and I do that. I know that I’m supposed to laugh at their joke, I read in their tone that I should ask about that thing they just mentioned casually, I know to nod my head and smile to communicate that I’m interested and paying attention. I just follow the pattern and the signals, and give them what they want.
@metametodo3 жыл бұрын
My perception is that the so called manipulative aspect of it enters when, for example, we intentionally ignore these cues that others are clearly putting out there, and I can choose what to do with that. But that's the thing, I think every type occasionally or frequently ignore specific circumstances because they simply don't want to follow an undesired path. That's not that different from INFJ "manipulation". I think the difference resides in efficiency and frequency INFJs explore and want to understand how these small social things work. Thus maybe having a greater potential to use that knowledge in effective ways.

We have Listening Skills, that is all. :)
@itchyanklez50453 жыл бұрын
Precisely. I’ve been told I’m good at listening to others for the same reasons. But having the ability to read them and give them what they want all the time can be both incredibly useful, and incredibly manipulative, (not to mention mentally draining). When you want to connect, you use your abilities to show you are listening and you care. If you are trying to manipulate the conversation, you can easily get it done with incredible subtlety and apparent innocence. It’s scary, but low key kinda fun. Like holding a gun- a lot of power, and it’s fun to use, but also frighteningly destructive.

As an INFJ, I totally agree that I'm reading others and "going along" in order to connect. It's automatic. But it tends to make the other person think I feel the same way they do when in fact I'm just being polite and accommodating. Most people don't ask how I feel about things. Even when they do ask, I can't always tell them right away and then we have to see if they've got the tiny bit of patience it takes to listen. Most don't! Since the other person has no idea what I really think, I eventually start to feel lonely in the relationship. And others tend to develop the expectation that I'll go along, so when it comes to something important and I take a stand, they're blindsided. Yeah, it's not a great way to connect, it's just a shallow way to get along. Real connections take a long time to develop and are pretty exclusive.
@yashivuvbolshomdomenakholm82742 жыл бұрын
Absolutely and us INFJs hate shallow, small talk. I actually recently told an ex that I can see the other side of an issue without agreeing with it. His eyes bugged out thinking of all the times I just allowed him to talk... He never actually knew me. Big surprise why we are not together anymore. I use to get upset all the time and think that ppl were so rude for not asking me questions in reciprocation. Turns out most people are just really self-involved but aren't heartless (except a few like my ex). So, now I'm just quiet and then say something like "oh, you want me respond to you? I thought you were talking *at* me". Just to remind them I'm a person and not a device or their therapist. Another things I like to do is ask someone if they have enough emotional energy before I unload something heavy to them (whether about them or not). I make it a point to point out what I'm asking and sometimes they will reciprocate asking me the same if they get it. It's nice to have the option to say "no thank you. Another time will be best".

@D H I think for the most part I've just accepted this dilemma as one of my quirks. Honesty is "reserved" for long term friends. As an INFP, I save most of my joking for the people I already know can appreciate my type of humor - or for my writing. I often find I connect best with people when they need my help or support. In many cases, once that need dissipates, I find there's not much of a basis for a connection left, as we don't really have much in common, and I just don't enjoy most people's company in a 'just for fun' context. The most authentic and lasting connections tend to be with people who feel similarly about a lot of things and share my basic values - and also those who click really well with my Ne.

@FaronGA3 жыл бұрын
@@1chienandalou So i'm not the best writer, Crime can be defined as breaking the law, which is essentially the rules for living within a society. But they're just that. Rules. Rules aren't inherently good or bad, but in the context of the law (a set of rules that govern individuals within a society for continued function, the opposite being anarchy) you can define what a good or bad rule is by a criteria of fairness, or what protects someone from being hurt unfairly by another. Take someone who decides to drive home after drinking at a party as an example. Someone may or may not get hit, he may or may not crash, he may or may not make it home. Is it fair to other people on the road, who are following the rules that ensure the safety of operating a motor vehicle, that the driver has affected his ability to be less than optimal for operating a system, and thus risen his chances of hurting someone? By breaking these rules he puts other people at risk, who are not breaking these rules. So it can be observed that rules tend to come from a place of protecting those who live in a society, from unfair treatment. It may offer perspective to consider "an eye for an eye" being the most primitive form of law, fairness, whatever. So boiling it down it can be like Good = what's for the greater good, for all. Bad = things that can be put on the far end of selfishness if it were a spectrum. TL;DR en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Culpability

They can't cherish such people and they can't possibly imagine those people would also like to / even need be cared of in return. Or not even cared of - it's about people's simplest interest in their lives. It'd be nice to be asked, "And what about you? What's going on in YOUR life? Everything going on well? Something exciting? Yep, my years at the uni were basically like this. Most of my fellow students didn’t really bother listening to the lecturers, so I was the only one doing the job with the never-ending mantra of “don’t screw this up, listen actively, keep eye contact, look interested”. On the plus side, exams were easier because of it 😂
@Loulizabeth3 жыл бұрын
@@regina8710 very much so. Also really interested to know if others INFJ's relate to this too. Wherever the lecturer asked a question and I waited to see if anyone else would answer and nobody did, so I ended up answering the question. I tried to wait longer and longer, as it just started to feel weird. But others hardly ever seemed to answer and it just felt incredibly frustrating. It's this just a Scottish thing re people not answering in lectures or or is it more a personality styles thing worldwide.

The biggest way INTPs (and I notice this in myself) is sharing information. We like to give tips on the most efficient way to do something or potential challenges someone may face. Other types often see this as nit-picky or backseat driving, however it is the main way I connect with people. Yep agree with the NFP part but I also relate to NFJ a lot. I think it’s the rejection sensitivity that has made me very anxious to pursue connections due to past experiences with people. I guess I try to accommodate others so they don’t have to go through that either. Doing this also works as a way to protect myself in case things go bad. It usually works out in the end and I try to leave it at that, but the more I do this the more I lose a sense of what I truly want. I end up constantly working against myself despite the fact that I’m making others happy. It makes me feel terrible every time I come to realize that

I just now realised that I also do these things and I think it's 1) to know their opinion but 2) to also be able to "categorise" and understand their personalities better. I hate small talk so mostly I'll ask people random questions to break the ice and to actually get to know them better. I like to ask questions like "Which MCU character do you relate the most and which one would you like to be?" or "What would your pirate name be?" or "Do you think you would survive a zombie apocalypse and what would your "function" be if you did?" Idk I'm never really aware of asking these type of questions, they're just so much fun, entertaining and it inspires a lot of curiosity in me. But I also think that we ask these questions, subconsciously, to determine ones character much better. By the way, I think I would be team brooms 'cus vacuum cleaners are so damn loud and they also blow a lot of warm air and Idk why but that warm air really makes me dizzy so yeah and also with brooms you can sit on them and pretend you're a wizard/witch playing Quidditch if you're a bit bored of all the cleaning!

@jawaherak3 жыл бұрын
I used to feel that way about myself as well, and I will tell you one thing that changed my life when I realized it: You're odd .. you're weird .. and that's totally ok. It's actually really good. And when you accept it and learn to deal with it, it will be one of your best qualities. The thing about INFJs is that we have our own view of things. We also are not very expressive when it comes to our honest feelings and thoughts .. This combination makes it hard for people to get us and undestand the way we think. I mean .. we don't follow the patterns Of "the usual way of thinking". At the same time we don't give any explanation for our odd reactions and decisions .. not really. So it makes us harder to approach and a little bit scary, because people can't figure if we like them or not, and they can't predict how we are gonna act. Especially since we're perfectionists, and they can see that our standerds for ourselves are high, which leads them to think that we might judge them harshly even if we didn't say it. So, the problem is not exactly you .. You are good, you care about people, and you have many great qualities. And they don't exactly hate you, you're just making it hard for them to figure you out. Now, if you realise that .. if you accept your uniqueness as a good thing and keep it in mind, you WILL find out how to deal with it, just as you deal with life.. - It's cold outside, you wear a jacket. - You have an exam you need to pass, you study for it. - People misunderstand you, you learn how to communicate and express yourself better without hurting anyone's feelings. It's that simple .. Not easy, but simple. Also, keep in mind that you are a human after all, so like everybody else, you need to work on your problems and weaknesses. Honestly, now a days I am more and more thankful for my oddness. It's hard, not gonna lie .. It still feels lonely sometimes and I am still figuring it out .. But it makes me unique, and gives me so much qualities that makes my impact on people and people's lives much stronger. And it's a good feeling to know what to do and why you do it instead of letting others decide for you. The independence is freeing .. And let me tell you: everything has a price, so those who blend with others better than you do, they loose many things along the way too, good things, that you have ... And everyone feels lonely sometimes, believe me, it's not just you. Best wishes 🌷
