Honestly as a recovering fentanyl addict, RuneScape / gaming addiction is pretty serious too. It won't kill you as fast as fentanyl but it can negatively affect your life. Once you get to the finish line, you’re like, ‘that’s it? Well okay cool. What now? I guess I’ll do this thing Ive been doing for 10k hours some more!” Damn. I guess the lesson here is, if it was a goal you enjoyed striving for and a skill you enjoy having, it doesn’t matter how long you spent on it or what it is, even if it is just a video game. The end feeling of emptiness is really the same in all cases. Just remember to have fun along the way and enjoy the small moments.

I thought I'd feel accomplished or at least a little joy, not worse. So ok now we are mining gems I guess. Same thing. Eventually you start playing four clients simultaneously. I guess Ironman is the next logical progression. It is kind of a lot of time and energy devoted to something. But nothing in real life is worth as much as runescape. You can grind forever but never really get anywhere in the real world. At least on runescape stuff actually happens. There's clear system, rules, and constraints. I mean sure there's bots diluting your accomplishments but everyone dislikes them and sees them as fake. In real life the fakes are praised and worshipped. Runescape is better.

Went through it all from introducing ancients and barrows. To the fight kiln and everything in between. The game wasn't the same as when I was a kid where tons of resources points were filled with people starting random conversations or the thrill of you couldn't just look up guides or watch KZbin for the best exp rates. You had to stand out at falador selling stuff to hopefully afford that coveted dragon chain body. It's a soulless game now with everyone rushing through content like theatre of blood and no talking while doing activities. I had so many accomplishments in that game. lvl 126 combat, numerous 99s, Hundreds of boss kc All for nothing because I dont care about the game anymore and jagex keeps ruining it. All my best friends from the game either died, got married, or quit. RIP to my buddies. Coolest dudes ever. No one's chill like that anymore in mmorpg communities.

I played for days, even skipped sleep to grind out 99 WC as my first 99 back in 2009. Back then I remember watching people throw big 99 parties and everyone would congradulate them. I managed to gather one person to watch me and then got accused of botting by someone walking by. It was pretty pathetic 😄😢

I enjoyed the majority of my time mostly because of the community you can build around yourself in this game. Theres something about the joy of conquering goals that seem unrealistic because of having to spend ungodly hours on it, then having a group of people on the same ride as you Runescape is for the journey, not the destination. I dont even really play a lot of other games anymore, but this game stays with me as one of my favorite hobbies

Runescape was so much more fun when I was learning about how the game worked as a kid. I came back to osrs a few years ago now as an adult, skilled my ass off and got to 80 wc when I just became so acutely aware of what I was doing. I was clicking on the same pixel for hours and hours and hours. And then the fun just stopped. I got like extreme anxiety of wasting my time and now I find it hard to enjoy that kind of grind in any game anymore
@WutherWave-qc3ud3 ай бұрын
This is what hurts playing games I remember just like you I didn’t care about clicking on pixels it was just fun… now as an adult 😅it hits hard at just am I wasting time and most games that are similar I just can’t anymore even though it brought so much joy to me before.

Inferno cape was a colossal feat that I had accomplished (300m setup) and it felt so good in those 3 or so minutes that felt like hours and I had a massive mood boost for a whole week or more. Failing 1-2 hour attempts is just so fucking brutal. During that time you maintain your resources and play extremely well. It’s extremely exhausting, one mistake which could take place in one tick or 0.6 of a second could set you back two hours. Anyways got 2 zuk attempts before the final third. It was worth the months it had been lingering on my mind for to get that cape.
