I had one for nearly 10 years. It had close to 300,000km by the time I sold it. It was brilliant off road, took me to the Cape, Simpson Desert, K'Gari, Victorian High Country, Steep Point and all round Australia. It wasn't without its issues though. All the issues were covered under warranty thankfully. Had 2 engines overheat, A/C stopped working a couple of times, 4WD wouldn't lock the front wheels (solenoid issue I believe).

I had an MN Triton with the dreaded over heating issue. Oil and coolent mixing, block warped. My dealership in Campbelltown NSW no questions asked sorted a replacment block and re used the head. I just had to pay for the belts. My car had no service history because i did all the work and was long out of warrenty but tried my luck anyway and got a new block covered under mitsubishi.

Really, really honest and capable mid-size 4WD. More utilitarian than a Pajero or Prado, not a lot of interior polish or bells & whistles, but mechanically they're well-sorted, easy to work on and rugged. The 4WD system is a gem and the diesel never feels lacking for power. Agree the front seats aren't particularly comfortable or supportive on long journeys. My mum had one for a decade, doing the grey nomad thing, before selling it recently. We were aware of the head gasket issue, but hers never missed a beat. It's only been a few months, but she already regrets selling it.

I've always wondered how good these cars are as I see so many of them on the road. I'm surprised that most of the problems are down to servicing and if the recall work has been done or not. If you want challenging for audio try a pocket radio with road trains going past you lol 😂. Overall a genuinely interesting and surprising video that's up to your usual gold standard gents. Good work as always guys and look forward to Sunday's video as per usual 👍.

It's a shame they were stuck with the 4D56 instead of the 4M41 from the era, and its a shame they were stuck with the Jatco 5 speed instead of the Aisin 4 or 5 speeds also used in Mitsubishi 4x4s at the time. These two things could've changed the PB/PC from being just a reasonable value off-roading option to a properly outstanding 4x4 wagon.
@JB-ib3vn2 ай бұрын
Had one, 2015 PC from new. Good until it wasnt. 3 engines replaced under warranty, first one at 85k km. Average for towing, hard going with a 1.6T camper on the back. Low range was almost a waste of time in the manual. During one of the engine replacements had a Pajero Sport loaner for 3 mths, much better vehicle in every way. Now have a Pajero.
@matthewwijsma99782 ай бұрын
Yeah in the manual low range is pretty crap. Weird you had such a bad go of engines, I thought they had it mostly sorted by 2015.
@timothykorner30802 күн бұрын
Just a thing with the block machining issue, they can run fine until put under load. The test they apparently do is to run the engine at 3000rpm for 15 minutes. If it starts to overfill the overflow and bubbles, then it means it has the issue. Even with this issue, it will show no signs unless 'stressed', for example, towing, etc. I liked my 2.5l triton until i had this issue come up last week. I contacted Mitsubishi last week and didn’t hear back. The local dealer is giving the run around, saying they have to pull the engine apart before talking to Mitsubishi, then if its not going to be covered, I'd be stuck paying for the work, on top of having to fix the engine afternoon anyway. Which is amazing, considering they only have to do the stress test at 300rpm for the others I've read about being replaced. It seems very case by case on the replacement too, which is surprising, as it's a know factory fault. There's cases where very high km engines are replaced, years out of warranty. Then there's some with pretty low km's and newer model that get knocked back. I'm not saying it is, although it all comes across as Mitsubishi just did the bare minimum to hide the issue from owners, leaving them, or whoever buys them afterwards, with a ticking time bomb of an engine that costs $10-$15k to replace.

Times we went up and down the east coast of Australia(almost 300K) when we sold it cheap to a mate, And 5 years later still see it running around town. Downside, such a small fuel tank for a 3L V6 engine

This has got to go down as one of the best episodes yet team, and not because of the subject matter. That train station voice-over was mint, the funky sunglasses scene, the wee Monty Python-esq hand pointer wand thingy, Jim's 'choke like Michael Hutchence' throwaway line and of course the fact he had to fuck it up at least once as evidenced in the out-takes. Well done! Oh the vehicle - great review too!

@aaryeshg.65262 ай бұрын
@paulhoogeveen7353 Yup, that's the engine. With MPI, it would have fit well with the name and intended design of this car perfectly. Kind of like a first gen Porsche Cayenne S, which had it's own 4.5L V8 and was used for Transsyberia Rally. Here in UAE, we got the petrol and auto versions only. So 3.0L or 3.5L V6 and 4 speed auto....... Not exactly, Sporty, haha. There's way more normal Pajeros compared to these Pajero Sport models here as such. The normal Pajero had a 5 speed auto compared to these Sport models.

I got one of these at the tail end of covid when 2nd hand cars were waaay expensive. Got one with 100,000km, manual. Been a great car, good all rounders, and being a manual it gets around 9L/100k's. Put 60,000km on it and I havent had to think about it, goes well and never has any issues.

It’s loud. Very loud in the cab. Worse with aggressive tyres. Even more so with a roof wrack. Lots of diesel rattle. Get rid of the aggressive tyres. Immediately quieter. Get rid of the roof wrack. Quieter again. And way better fuel economy. I reckon I’ve got mine sorted now. 11/100 is not bad for fuel. Changed out the tyres for quieter less aggressive tyres. Got rid of the roof wrack. That fixed the fuel and a lot of the noise. Mines done 198k and is on its second timing belt, radiator and battery. It drives well and it’s comfy and takes me to my favourite campgrounds. I’m happy.

My PB LS is 11 years old, only 165k but done a lot of that off road in the jarrah forest on unmaintained gravel 'tracks'. Never let me down, very surprised where it's taken me with some very anxious passengers! I had a lot of warranty issues I gotta say from Mitsubishi who just flat out refused to honour my extended warranty during Covid, (airbag light, turbo leak, harness issue, drivers electric window motor). The main reason I believe was they rebuilt their store and lost my original contract. Finally brought in my contract with proof of extended warranty and they begrudgingly fixed everything for free as they should have years earlier without a fuss. Otherwise ride on original shocks do need replacing. Everything else is fine however did replace terrible headlights for LEDs which are great. Better A/T tyres added are a must off roading. It's a manual so I'm thinking of keeping it for the long haul and want to put better shocks, engine mod and front diff lock (if I have some spare money)!!

I've always liked the challenger it is underated and looks cool. While it is a great value proposition I think some of the drawbacks for me come from the poor factory suspension and just less bulletproof than some but I guess much of it can be managed with good maintenance. Whilst I appreciate you guys test what you can I do think the value equation takes a hit with the need for doing suspension whereas apart from a lack of clearance the Prado is more an out of the box winner from factory. I test drove one of these with 200,000 and a 2007 Prado 120 V6 with 320,000 on it and I went with the Prado just feels much more comfortable and solid

I have a 2015 challenger with leather, nice wheels, etc. Recently my wife and I started to look for a replacement car. I was annoyed because I couldn't find anything that was markedly better and justified the spending of big money to upgrade. The other big thing which stood out was cabin space. I am 6ft 4 and my son is tall and he fits easily behind my seat.

I have a 2015 Challenger andits been awesome. The engine failed at 47k out of warranty but Mitsubishi came to the party and covered a nes engine as it is a known issue. Thats been the only issue, tows well, drives well, its not a Prado but for the money its amazing. Off road its as good as anything and the standard locking diffs are the bomb.

There is zero need for a Catch can. Especially when it can pressurise your engine and causes $1000’s worth of oil leaks. A little bit of oil mist will only get burnt up. If you have more than mist you have a blowby issue, that a catch can cant fix. The egr is the abrasive soot that needs to be dealt with.
